Damn Akito you scary!

another week another Fruits Basket episode, for the first time in a while this episode didn't have many character appearances. Im both looking forward to the rest of the series, but Im also dreading it.

Just as everything seems to be happy and settling down, Akito is there to stir everything up. I just want everyone to be happy, but that is fleeting with every episode.

The feels T.T This is my favorite episode of season 2. This ep is so intense & I just couldn't stop crying. Even reading the comments here in the forum got me crying just thinking about the ep. This ep is beautiful & sad at the same time. Just thinking about Kyo's realization of his feelings toward Tohru & the last lines Kyo said in the ep brought tears back to my eyes once again. The scene where Kyo remembered when he was little with Tohru's mom... I don't know if my heart will take it ... (I read the manga 10 years ago & forgot a few things that happened; watching the anime gives me flashbacks) Damn Akito is so heartless monster (really evil). I really look forward to the next ep.

Wow, emotionally stirring episode for sure.

One could argue that the "victims" don't put enough resistence and thus are too easily swayed by Akito, but she knows exactly what to say to make others feel weak and unlovedand it's a shoujo drama, so a bit suspension of disbelief is always required

That said, I don't share all the rage against Akito, sure she's behaving despicable and even if she has suffered in her past, that's no excuse for trying to drive a wedge between people and torturing them mentally. I'm still willing to look past it for now, because she's an interesting character and more importantly, we also have yet to see her backstory and potential redemption. She's also pretty cute in her own way and I liked that she looked more feminine in this episode.

As for Kyo, there was quite a bit of development and an interesting reveal of his past. There are still many details that need to answered. And Tohru gotta find a way to save Kyo.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

This episode, as the majority has said: pretty great and no faults about it. A pretty intense confrontation...

And the Cat has FINALLY made aware of Tohru's feelings for him, not a doozy anymore. Being called by Akito is still no consolation though, only serving as a reminder of his hateful and vengeful past. To add insult to injury, her manipulation goes way beyond common sense, and adding the flashback of Season 1 when Kyou turned into a monster, with Tohru acknowledging both his human and monster state, she's the sliver of hope in life.

It's safe to say that even without Yuki's warning for Kyou to go rampant towards Akito, he won't relent as he faces the music head on. And as relentless and unreserved as Akito can be, he can only resign to his fate at the hands of her words, which speak volumes of defiance.

The hope that started from Kyou's early meeting of Tohru's mum, and the ever constant flower in his life, "My Precious" Tohru, and the confession to recognize his presence in her life, for the time that he's left.

Akito's shit-stirring will continue, and at least for Kyou, he knows his direction now.

What an episode. Frightening but making peace at the end of it all. Really wishing the best for Kyou.

This was such a frustrating episode. At this point no amount of redemption, if there is going to be any, is going to make me care about Akito. Not that it would before, but this was the last straw to me. I don't know why I expected it to be different considering how Kyou's life has been so far, but it hurt to see him like that. He tried his best to stand for Tooru, but he readily accepted that it was "his fault" that his mother died. To blame a child for something like that, to the point that he grew up believing that he is a monster who doesn't deserve love and wished his mother had killed him instead, is so twisted that I can't even articulate what to say. It also hurt to see him realizing his own feelings only to promptly deny them since they could bring trouble to Tooru. And right now he is resigned to being caged for the rest of his life. I can't even. And it seems he was close to Tooru's mother, and that he doesn't want to "take anything else" from her. This was honestly heavy and upsetting. Tooru really believed that Kyou being summoned was a good thing and was happy for him too. She doesn't even fathom what kind of person Akito is, and we still don't know much about the curse. Only the fact that they can't defy Akito and that they can turn into their respective animals. Makes you wonder if Tooru can even do something about this messed up situation.

This anime exceeded my expectations once again! X3

I knew what was in store for this episode since I've read the manga part a while ago, but the impact that it dished out on me was still as strong as I thought it would be. Kyo is a troubled lad, but he's a proper sweetheart as well. He had to endure a load of abusive taunts and slaps from Akito, but none of that is going to sway his heart. He's now true to himself about his feelings for Tohru and how much he loves her. Hearing him saying to himself how he wants to spend as much time with her with what little time he has left before his confinement is a bittersweet pill to swallow.

Of course, I do have to mention about Aktio as well. Obviously, this little piece of trash is upset that Kyo is warming up to Tohru and Akito really went on the aggressive approach on Kyo, both verbally and even psychically, too. Once again, it's rich to hear from Akito boldly asking Kyo "Who's the real villain here?" when the ACTUAL villain is none other than Akito himself.

Afterwards, the next part of the episode had Kyo running towards the beach, trying to find where Tohru had gone. During his run, we were shown flashbacks with his time with Shisho about the meaning of being able to bloom again even in the darkest parts of his life, as well as showing his interactions with Tohru's mother when he was younger. Not only were these flashbacks impactful and great, the OST used here up until Kyo found Tohru at the beach was simply perfection. It gave me goosebumps the whole time it played.

Overall, this is easily the best episode of season two so far. However, the drama isn't going to stop anytime soon, so I hope everyone is preparing themselves for the next episode...

Such a powerful and impactful episode this week. Seeing Tohru so happy for Kyo to be summoned to visit Akito was just tragic, given how badly that meeting was obviously going to go. Even so, I often forget just how nasty, vile and downright psychologically abusive Akito is until we actually see it happen. Everything he claims about Kyo - that he's a monster who does not have the right to love (or even the ability to) - can be so easily flipped and applied to Akito, at least from the outside; it's clear to everyone that Akito is an evil monster with zero empathy for anyone or anything.

He is just malice and hatred personified, so it's almost impressive how he's able to constantly frame everyone else as being in the wrong, and make them believe it too. And now Kyo's accepted that he is going to end up confined, rather than hoping for a way out of it. That's this episode's greatest tragedy.

Akito is pitifully twisted. Just what kind of tragic life had Akito led before to turn her into something so despicable, deriving pleasure and enjoyment from the suffering of others. If anything Akito is, she is a master manipulator, able to efficiently hit you where it truly hurts. Akito's way of agonizing others isn't through physical pain, but a rather emotional torment. I am interested to know just what kind of happenings would drive a person to become just like Akito.

While the meeting between Akito and Kyo was as unfortunate as they come, even more so, there was a silver lining in which Kyo was able to realize his romantic feelings for Tohru. But alas, continuously telling a small innocent child they're a monster would have any kid believe and take that as a fact. Kyo's biological dad, Akito, and most likely many others made sure to drill their misguided accusations and mockery into Kyo's tiny brain. I understand why Kyo, at the end of the episode, gave up and accepted the fate detailed by Akito.

What the hell? They just throw the drama at you with big bad Akito as some sort of twisted villain. I get that all of this is supposed to be very emotional, but really, it feels artificial. And only now we learn that Kyo knew Tohru as a child... ok, but it doesn't feel so special anymore, not after Yuki's past and definitely not when it's just now presented at the last moment.

I still like the show, but the driving force of drama here always rubbed me the wrong way, now it's just more clear and I can't ignore it anymore.

It's for this reason that I ship Kyo and Tohru. Kyo is the most unfortunate amongst the chinese zodiacs. He was always an outcast and even inferior to Yuki. Don't you think he deserves Tohru more than anyone in FB? Aside from all of that, I certainly believe Kyo and Tohru do have chemistry.

She got him back. If you understand the characters well enough, you'd know she did!

Even though I grew up with older titles from the 80s and 90s, I later despised cheap storytelling tropes such as challenging someone to a bet and somehow the dunce will accept the challenge without even nodding or just being an ounce smarter by saying "screw you and your bet", I don't have to follow your orders. Even if there's still a strong reason to bind Akito to all the Juunishi that's still stored for a cheap plottwist, there's no good reason for some of them to rebel and become independent or at the very least be smarter to negotiate with Akito (just like Shigure does). Akito's domination powers rely on the other juunishi just being gullible idiots.

Kyo is kind getting on my nerves on this episode with his line "it's just like xmas, Tohru will be alone again" right before entering Akito's chambers. Like seriously, does he think he's the only one that can white knight Tohru at this moment of the story? When she has proven that most of the Juunishi she's met so far will side with her no matter what. In a similar manner, how dense can Tohru be thinking that Akito summoning Kyo will be a good thing? "I hope he comes happier after his meeting with Akito".

At least Kyo finally realized he's in love with Tohru, but aside from that quite frankly, the outcome of this beach house arc feels quite flat from my perspective weighed against all the padding, slow pace and all the expectation of finally seeing most the juunishi having a word against Akito and just being a one sided bitchslap on Kyo.

Man this was so brutal. It's hard to get any enjoyment out of the sweet moments when the emotional abuse is this severe. They seriously need to explain what's going on with this curse crap soon. It's getting hard to sit and watch everyone suck Akito's dick with no complaints episode after episode seemingly without reason. The thought of locking Kyo in a cage is so sick.

My heart was swaying this entire episode. First I screamed when Kyo said he loved Tohru. SCREAMED! Then Akito playing fucking mind games with my man and he tells Akito He doesn't love her.

Then him realizing everything thanks to Shisho (God BLESS SHISHO) It's fucking confirmed!

I'm a grown ass man and that beach scene at the end had me crying like a new born baby...God damn I feel so bad for Kyo and I love his development throughout this Series. Holy shit These two better end up together and I hope Akito gets what she deserves.

What episode was it? Fantastic, exciting, awesome, I think the best so far, maybe even more than the 1x24.

Kyo realizes he loves Tohru and declares it, even if only in his mind. Unfortunately Akito had what he hoped for, the surrender of Kyo who now thinks only of the time of freedom that remains and no longer hopes in the future together with Tohru. I hope, however, that he will not give up, I think that his love for her will make him overcome this obstacle too.

I had understood from the first season that Kyo knew Tohru's mom. So it looks like Kyo is involved or at least he knows something important about Kyoko's death, confirming the facts of the episode in which they visited the tomb in the first season. What will Kyo's unfulfilled promise be?

Yuuki, on the other hand, disappointed me, he practically resigned himself to being in the place that belongs to him according to Akito. I think, unlike Kyo, he decided to move away from Tohru for her own good, this would explain the reason for the tears although he was confessing his feelings to Tohru.

Agreed. It's mostly frustrating at this point. Akito isn't convincingly manipulative. He's weird and psycho, and we're left in the dark why anyone would give him the time of day. We get all this poor treatment because they're cursed but no being cursed to justify it. It's certainly not the turning into animals. That barely comes up. Kyo's monster form is unfortunate, but that didn't do much either. We've spent so much time with these characters and nothing bad has happened except for the way the rest of the clan acts. I don't understand continuing the development with this essential bit missing.

Why do you cringe? RIGHT NOW, he has nothing going for him aside from looks I guess? Most of his story RIGHT NOW is "feel bad for me for reasons I won't tell you yet". But really it just seems like he (and most other Sohma) are just a bunch of cowards afraid of Akito for no good reason. I'm not writing him off. Just that at this moment there's no appeal to him other than pity. And sure, Kyou also has some pity points but he also actually has a good personality while Yuuki is pretty boring. I'm sure things will evolve as t he story goes on but he's really boring right now compared to Kyou.

Being accurate to the manga's pacing isn't the same as it being good pacing. Akito is ridiculous and people take it has been every scene with him since he came on screen. There aren't additional details to speculate on or any real elaboration beyond here's yet another trauma sourced from him. Personally it's overshadowing the episodes for me and takes away from whatever development is going on in the characters with actual personalities. There's nothing I can do with Akito but be annoyed until we get whatever explanation has to be coming eventually.

Alright, who messed up the waterworks... what's with these tears? (Akito, that's who, not even bothering to shut that faucet.)

Jokes aside, this was an ALL-IN KYO episode. I don't think non-readers are gonna get any more details as to why Kyo is shaken by Akito's threats against Tohru, but the few flashes are all you'd need to see there's so much more to Kyo's fear than what the series has so far only shallowly touched upon (and no, there's more to it than his hideous monster transformation).

We just have 10+ episodes left in this show. I hope it'll be more heavily centered on Kyo's and Tohru's dilemmas than anyone else's in the remaining ones.

Well we'll all be more than happy to get a third season, but I'm not gonna hold my breath until they make it official. This pandemic has already ruined many show schedulings as it is. That said, if it's really gonna be just ten or so episodes left then I want as much focus on these two lovebirds than the rest.

They announced that this was going to be a full adaptation of the manga right from the start. The manga is 136 Chapters long, we are currently up to Chapter 64 or so. There is just no way they can fit the remaining content into so few episodes. I totally get being cautious because of Covid-19, but at worst we are just going to get delays. I doubt they are just going to wrap the whole series up with only 50 episodes, especially at the current pace they are going with it. It is just very unlikely.

I didn't bother rechecking where in the manga we're all now but I think you're quite spot on... there's still a lot of things that I remember would still happen to them all.

Well I hope the production team are all well in this pandemic so we can still look forward to that possible third cour-season... even if it might mean being in 2022. I'll load up on more Kyo angst and Tohru fluff in the meantime.

I have been reading the comments on here which are all very interesting and entertaining. So is everyone here a manga reader? I am trying to figure out why people are questioning Akito's gender.

I will confess that kyo x tohru was never my favorite ship but it's been many years since I read the manga and the new anime adaption has made me appreciate why shippers like this pairing. They are ying and yang and this episode was so well done it makes me like the pairing more than I did when I first read the manga back in the late 1990s and early 2000s. I also loved this episode because it was very Akito-centric. I always had a love-hate thing with Akito and while I don't love him the way I cherish Tohru or other characters like Momiji, I still find his character interesting and complex. Also lets get real...fruits basket wouldn't be that interesting without Akito stiring up shit :)

This season is really solid. Better than season 1 so far imo. We're getting a lot of plot and character development and big moments. I do hope the momentum keeps up.

I need somewhere to scream all my Kyoru feels and this is the perfect place for it
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I LOVE THEM SO MUCH *insert ugly crying*

To be able to relive this series again as an adult is truly a treat. My high school shoujo manga heart that has become disgusted with all the cliche new shoujo nowadays is happy again.

Man, this episode played with my emotions in such a way. Now I better go watch some UFC, Box or something else.

Personally, this was between the best episodes from the series so far. Easily in my Top 3. The meeting with Akito was as tense and infuriating as I expected but seeing Kyou being the first one to openly admit his feelings for Tohru, with no ambiguities nor metaphors, really caught me off guard. If it weren't for Akito talking shit at every second, it could have been such a beautiful moment to keep in one's memory. I mean, it was still precious but it could have been way better by erasing a certain someone from the scene.

OST was amazing and Yuuma Uchida did a fantastic job at portraying Kyou's affection towards the light that's Tohru. And the last scene at the beach was so heartwarming yet felt so tragic to see at the same time. Kyou has practically given up in trying to avoid his fate but let's hope he can overcome this defeatist attitude sooner rather than later. Hopefully, Kazuma might give him some guidance when they come back.

So in the end, it's confirmed that Kyou met Tohru's mother at some point, uh? Honestly, while I'm happy to know his connection with Tohru may be deeper than expected, I also can't help but have this uneasy feeling that he may have had something to do with Kyouko's death giving those ominous dialogues. I want to be wrong but it seems we are in the path for a quite unpleasant revelation.

This said, it was a truly moving episode overall. Now I wonder what will happen next week... Tohru finally meeting Kureno, perhaps?...

... and also yeah, Akito can burn in a pit, thank you. Impressive how an antagonist that mostly talks can make me feel so pissed.
