Bam just mastered that technique in a few moments holy, that administrator was shocked too. The administrator got duped twice in a row now xD, enraging and embarrassing oh god. And this does mean that Rachel won't be lying to Bam anymore, right? Khun acted like Lauroe sksk
There's more to say, but let's come to the real matter of this episode. You probably noticed I avoided it
Did Hoh seriously just commit suicide? I get it, he's got a fucked up past and seems to not be the best or strongest, but that can't be all there is to it, right? This simply HAS to do with Bam, right? What was he talking about when he said it was Bam's fault? Why would he have gone to such lengths as to murder Rachel? Why was he so desperate? What happened to him and what has Bam done in the past? That he most likely just doesn't remember?
Let's just say, the episode was fucked up. Khun's team will be shocked to hear about Hoh's death and I do feel like all of this just took a big step into the darker side and actually figuring out who exactly Bam is. Not just we viewers, but he himself too, obviously.
I didn't read the manhwa, so I'm full of questions rn and I'm absolutely sure few to none will be answered in this season, so I'm already praying for a second season┻━┻︵└(´_`└)
Actually Hoh was really that desperate. Desperate enough to kill Rachel, and then himself. In the original, Quant, the ranker made it clear to him (seeing How he was threatening Rachel) that by harming/killing Rachel he would face consequences. Hoh was basically screwed the moment he took Rachel as a hostage. Cornered and left with no option - he committed suicide. Even if he gave up, he would probably not be allowed to climb the tower anymore, so it was game over to him anyway. Hoh was weak, so he was ready to kill if that guaranteed his success. I think he simply blames Bam for being gifted - basically jealous that Bam's very powerful. Hoh made it clear that great strength is everything. Seeing just how weak he is compared to others and people like Bam, his confidence was at an all time all. He basically said that it's because of strong people like Bam, why weak people like Hoh have to resort to such dishonorable acts (given the fact that they're promised success by doing those things) because they're doomed to fail otherwise.

God damn it. I felt for Hoh so bad. I knew he didn't mean to hurt anymore. I wonder if we'll learn about his race after this.

It was really surprising to see a death and actually a suicide on screen.

This show is only becoming stronger and stronger.

Btw, did Endorsi actually kill all her "sisters" ?
I don't know how the morals work in the story, but at the very least she should be a psycopath ?

Theory crafting, this might be wrong AF, but...

What if Bam had originally already climbed the tower, but his wish at the top was to forget every single event that happened on his way to the top and that's why he meets Rachel with washed memories.

And now, he is experiencing every single event, murders and betrayals alike, with a different set of tower climbers.

This could also be a hint why strange things happen to him, why he has good control of Shinsu and is quick to pick up on ranker techniques, hence muscle memory?

You're right that he wouldn't have been able to go on, so there was practically "no option left", I forgot about that. I knew he was jealous of Bam, but do you mean that Bam's and everyone's strength just kinda reminded him of how incredibly weak he is and how that weakness of his is the reason that all the people from his past are dead now? Is it like this, that being with them and seeing their strength first-hand just immediately dragged him into that hole of thinking even more? And that that is part reason of his desperate act and also why he blamed Bam? That'd explain it to the fullest for me.

this is the worst and stupidest episode I've watched so far. everything in this episode was so rushed and out of the blue . Hoh's character was a complete failure. Firstly, I'll start with how narrow minded and deliberately objective his character is. He was limited to become a tragic fodder to feed into the dystopic setting of the world; despite this being completely fair, his character was so poorly executed that his objective purpose of to evoke sympathy out of the audience fell very flat. Resulting in a huge waste of time. His motif was randomly introduced upon his death and the nature of it was very questionable. The killings of his relatives were very "for the sake of the story", it was senseless as the reason behind it was not disclosed making his "suicide" story very superficial. What triggered me the most was how Hoh's death could have been avoided, Bams delayed reaction plus the rankers absolute ignorance made his death seem unnatural as the ranker could've easily snatched the knife in a second like he did with Endorsis panties (again wtf is that twist). It's also very senseless how they only humanise him upcoming towards his death, his random notion of regret and remorse should've occurred before this to build more sympathy and understanding of his character. Altogether this is fatal for the story because a lot of time was wasted building up his "failed" character which couldve been used elsewhere like to build direct sympathy towards Michelle. Believe me or not the supposed "Heroine" of the story who we rarely see or understand.

Bam is also unfathomly naive in this episode and watching his generic reactions to his teammates being beat up by Endorsi and Hoh was Painful. In the final scene, the whole monologue by Serena (yes I had to search her name up) and the current ongoing action made for a cluster fuck of confusion as I was still trying to apprehend what had just happened. A lot of people appreciate the dark sentiment that has randomly appeared in this episode, but the forced nature of the sentiment through Hohs death and the characters generic reaction on it makes it hard to digest. This makes it less of "good" story for me as it was not naturally built and was only "for the sake" of the story, making it very tasteless and fake, frankly quite annoying to watch as non of this shift in genre into "distress" was necessary as it was already progessing into a good story.

I love the tone shift. It feels a bit darker now.
Also the sound tracks when Bam and Quant were fighting were really cool.
The way they got the badge was a little underwhelming though.

overall a 4/5 episode

Huh so to eat all that food the girl just killed all her sisters. Brutally simple indeed. So thats what Endorsi's childhood was like. While surprising in execution Hoh's little move sure got spoiled by the rankers appearance. Though he betrayed Bam's trust the insight into why he wanted to climb the tower sure was interesting. The effect that his death will have on Bam though will be a heavy one. Endorsi though sure managed to win quite the victory with her cunning. Overall an decent ep that while featuring some excellent expansion of Endorsi's past also did well to effect some much needed change in Bam via Hoh's plan. Though the effect will be heavy mentally i do hope that Bam's personality will start to change.

Quant couldn't actually do it in the original, because the two were in a "safe zone" - a place where a Ranker is not allowed to enter - something that was completely ignored in the anime.

Fantastic episode. The several betrayals inside the B team set a much darker tone and made one wonder how things were going to play out. They really recaptured the sense of unease and sacrifice of earlier episodes. RIP Hoh. Who knows who he might have become. Bam definetly has made up his mind and starts to change.

9/10 episode and I hope things remain this good for the end. One thing is for sure, I am going to listen the OST just as much as the one of Made in Abyss after finishing this.

Best episode of the adaptation yet, this gets into a lot more of the overarching narrative than the other episodes, and gets into some of the themes that made the manhua so good. Though......no matter how you look at it this should have been two cour.....compared to the manhua the pacing in the anime is just too fast......the 1st arc had like 80ish chapters which means we're getting about 6 chapters per episode which is way too many. 3 would have been just right.

BAM shouts "Why? Why? Why?" which is really painful/annoying 😭 to watch, especially when a protagonist does it. :)
I want to see him do his OP-like stuff.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It would be foolish to decide BEST GIRL or BEST BOY. BAM still hasn't done anything OP-like (except in few scenes). And this is just little part of ongoing Manhwa. But i do want to see BAM doing some protagonist like stuff ; that probably will happen in the last episodes as many of you are saying this to be a promotional anime for Webtoon.

Before Anime adaptation, BAM fans were more compared to KHUN on Myanimelist, and i was expecting more from him. I guess will have to start manhwa to see his progress.

It will be disappointing, if they wrap up this Anime after 13 episodes. And just like in "Darwin's Game"anime, they will make the character shine in the last episode.

man the pacing this episode was so fast,if they replaced rak and the'' red guy'' screentime with something like quant speech about baam it would have been a lot better.afterall they didn't do the prologue of the series justice and one of the main problems is the director i mean other peoples in the production team have done a really good job at their fields.i really wish this season is profitable enough so they can do a better job next season if it even happens.

Whew, what an episode; betrayal was definitely the name of the game! I'm actually quite sad that Hoh is dead. I'm definitely more emotional about his death than Rachel's potential death... I dunno why, I just really don't like her. I'm curious about why the Silent Man disappeared when she was stabbed... hmmm...

That speech the thief girl made when she was sitting next to Hoh's body was so sad. It kinda got me chocked up. Does anyone know her name by the way? I don't remember it being mentioned and can't find it on the net

This show gets more retarded by the episode. The fights suck and Endorsi is such a cringey character.
also Yoru crying over the dude that tried to kill his girl is almost as dumb as Naruto saying Obito is a cool guy.

and that ranker blushing over some fuckin panties is the most cliche shit ever, it's like these characters are written by a 12 year old.

Why do you still keep watching it though? It's already episode number 9!

He must be an ANIME-only fan and just like most fans (me included), he might have not read the Manhwa. So, the main characters are not shown in the anime as they are supposed to be in the Manhwa.
BAM not doing OP-ish stuff even when this anime is about to end with episode 13, might have really gotten on his nerves. In my case, i am planning to read Manhwa, after the anime is done.

I heard it's a popular series, but unfortunately this is just a promotional adaptation for webtoon (Rumour).

I always think its pretty cheap to only give someone any exposure right before they die. Like, if you want to make me care about a character, make them interesting. Giving me a sobstory after they did something dumb and right before they die is a waste of time.

Its quite funny that this ranker screwed up his own tests and basically EVERYONE FOOKIN DIED but once people start killing each other here its like "oh no, how could you! This is a christian minecraft server!" This gives the feel of the drama being fake. Or rather the initial dark setting was only at the very beginning and will be forgotten soon.

The OST though was really good, and I fancy the voice acting so far.
Really hope this gets a second season soon, as I expect the story to be rather long and from the look I had at the source it looks pretty bad.

PS: I wonder how long the MC will remain a wet towel

Sorry but i'm disappointed with this adaptation, like big time. They keep butchering characters more and more. Bam's line with Endorsi was average. Endorsi herself was changed significantly.

Ranker Quant was ridiculed and spit on the most! He could've stopped Hoh and save Rachel himself, IN AN INSTANT, but he couldn't actually do it in the original, because the two were in a "safe zone" - a place where a Ranker is not allowed to enter - something that was completely ignored in the anime. Here, it seemed like Quant couldn't risk saving Rachel as if he wasn't fast enough to stop Hoh from stabbing her lol, that is ridiculously stupid. Also, he failed to stop HOH from killing himself for the same stupid reason - because in the anime he is apparently NOT even remotely fast enough to do that! This makes Rankers look like a joke; and Quant in particular is turned into a sad clown. These guys are supposed to be insanely strong, remember?

All of this, however I must say it was the best episode so far of the adaptation..

They deleted my best Quant Quote in the series when he was talking about Bam in the ep...
"It's an ironic story. Throwing away what's precious, giving in to their own selfish desires to even betray their own, but the One God has chosen is a child who cries over the death of a competitor not a friend. But if he's truly gifted, there's no way they could have continued together. No matter how small a baby shark is, it can't swim with the sardines. "

Exactly. I keep feeling that they are not putting the best quotes of the webtoon, for some reason. I hope they explain why does Rak call everyone "Turtles".

----------------------------------------
Weird. As an adaptation this episode changed a lot of things, but in the end it kinda reached the point. There are so many differences that I´m just lazy to point all of them. Most of it were changes in the rules of the test itself and some other things like why Quant did not attacked Hoh when he took Rachel as a hostage.

Also, the technique that Bam did is called "Reverse Shinsu Flow Control" and while it is a big deal, I wouldn´t say it is a "Ranker´s level technique". Again the visual effects of Shinsu are changed. This will be messed up if they are planning to do a second season at some point.

And finally (and most importantly) we can all agree that these hoh´s aint loyal

Man i will be honest. The writing and character interactions are one of the worst from the popular series. Its worse than many seasonal trash anime that keeps airing every season. Everything just happens. We get a small pill sized character background for a character and thats it. No world building. No character development. Bad animation.

God i was planning to rate this a 7 at some point but it keeps getting worse and worse...

That’s because this damn studio keeps cutting out all the important information when it comes to the world building and stuff. At this rate, if you are still interested, then please give the webtoon a try. The anime is going to continue to keep cutting stuff because they’re trying to fit almost 80 chapters in 13 episodes.

But yeah plz give the webtoon a try but if you’re not interested then that’s okay.

All I can say right now is, this OST man, it's so damn good! Kevin Penkin does not disappoint!

The B team was quite the mess, Hatz getting abandoned by 2 teammembers, Endorsi turning against her team as well... Not to mention Hoh, what in the world, it's a miracle they won, simply by Endorsi outsmarting the Ranker with underwear.. Cleverly done from her!

But things definitely escalated quickly, Hoh was setup by someone who had put a letter in front of his door, but I still can't wrap my head aroung it all, something about Hoh just doesn't make sense to me. Not that it really matters now, he's gone now!

I do like things turning dark so suddenly, loved the tension at some parts as well.

This episode just felt boring, I mean the actual content is decent, but it felt unenthusiastic, as if there was no heart and passion being put into this arc, average content but disappointing results.

3/5.

Imo probably the boringest episode in the series. This arc at its entirety tbh, hoping the next episode delivers.

I was confused since the last 2 eps. Nothing much to say about the plot since I can't piece everything together the way the anime presented to me. They haven't clear up this ep, I'm expecting explanation on the next ep otherwise I'll be disappointed.
Other than that, I feel so irritated hearing Yoru's voice shouting out Hoh while holding his precious waifu far away. That's kinda cringey.

Eventful episode but I didn't care about Hoh dying. Just didn't have any real reason to be invested in his character. I was as concerned as Rak when that silent dude disappeared. I thought he was going to go help Rachel. Speaking of Rachel, I know Bam thinks she's his entire world and all, but it'll be really refreshing to see his character grow to be more than just a simp. I'm guessing that won't happen in the anime though and I'll have to head over to the manhwa to see it.

I don't really care about rachel.. let alone the suicidal guy... Like it happened all so randomly.. well at least it felt random.. But yeah twas underwhelming. But I'm starting to like the princess more as she shows her first hand experience.

Behold of my awesomeness~
controversial and/or sensitive topics likely devolve into the same repetitive, derogatory, abusive, and harassing comments can no longer be posted.

"I must climb the tower. No matter what. You understand, don't you. After all, you also — "

Two things I gathered.
Hoh was about to say something about Rachel, I feel like he had some sort of idea why she has to climb the tower, a reason that's possibly not far off from Hoh's.

Also, when Rachel got stabbed, the silent guy beside Rak reacted and then disappeared. He either has some sort of special connection with Rachel or he might be her bodyguard. Either way, it adds credence to my theory that Rachel might be a princess herself.

The rankings on the position test really should've been more explicit. Knowing the overall rankings of the different positions/characters and that only 4 out of 6 Fisherman could pass is very important knowledge, and really shouldn't have been a one-liner.

"What he said was true" hmm... who?

You can really see the fast pace affecting the show though - the Hoh moment would've been a lot more impactful if we had more time with him. And yet I'm glad they're moving fast because we get to rush through all the same-y shit we see in every single shounen with the MC explaining how he wants to accomplish his goals the altruistic way and yadda yadda... I'm willing to let S1 take a minor hit on character moments if we get a properly paced S2.

Dat slap was fire btw.

Ok, this episode was meh:

Things that I like:
+Hoh's death. Not because he's a good written character ot he's cool, he was so cringe to watch..In every moment, he was just angry at Baam. KIll him to not to see him again was a smart move.
+Endorsi actions and past. I like this and her past turned out to be much more interesting along with Anak's past from several episodes ago.
+Baam helping Endorsi after their talk. I would have put him as negative if he hadn't done anything but I'm glad that he can comprend the situation.

Things that I don't like:
-Rachel being useless. Honestly, she is a plot device at this point and lacks personality so I don't care what she is doing. It seems to me that the author forget to give more importance to this or it is directly the result of a bad adaptation.
-Endorsi trolling Quant was pretty obvious since she told him "where" is her badge. I expect a better twist like they did in the last episode but it was all very predictable. I'm disappointed.

3/5

They cut my favorite line of Baam

"The heart goes where the heart wills"

When Endorsi was trying to stop him from going after Rachel.

Anyway, pretty nice ep. Rushed as always. Plus they did not put much emphasis on Baam's new technique!

It's called "Fast Skip" a type of "Reverse Flow Control" technique.

That's considered a high level technique which took Quant HUNDRED OF YEARS JUST TO MASTER IT and then we have Baam who was able to use it only after seeing it once which made him a TOTAL MONSTER. He possess a "talent" that everyone in the tower will be envious of.

Goodness, why did they keep on skipping important parts?

akryung appears in season 3
Hmm...surprising. Do you remember if him vanishing was ever shown in the webtoons though?

Nope it wasn't there. Also scene of Hwaryun hiding was also not there (I didn't like it as it kinda don't fit with her personality)

It was not just food. They were gathered to pick one only among them (rather than killed ny others she kills others)
