| Man, one of the first times Ken has a worthy opponent and it's already over. I was kind of hoping for it to be concluded in 2 episodes after all the buildup. But boom, here comes Ken with his ultra-super-secret breathing technique. No sweat. Handy that the villagers came back and granny was smiling from the sky. Nice way to get rid off the kids and we can all move along in the next episode. The pace of this show, man, it's unlike anything I've watched I feel like. Except for Bleach perhaps, that first season has such an explosive pace as well. |

| The preview in the last episode correctly called the monster Devil Rebirth. So why do the subs for this episode incorrectly use Devil Reverse instead? Weird inconsistency but ok. Kenshiro didn't fuck around. He hunted Jackal for a long time and gave him a death that was fitting for a coward like him. NGL I almost felt bad for him but then I remembered all the terrible atrocities he committed. Even though he is a kind person, being chased by Ken is the worst nightmare. I just realized, is the mutant monster from the OP supposed to be Devil Rebirth? It doesn't look like him. But maybe the intention was to foreshadow Ken's eventual showdown with Devil Rebirth. The next 8 episodes starting from episode 14 are all fillers. Isn't that great? It seems to be the longest string of fillers in this series. And after episode 21, episodes 21 to 29 seem to be mixed canon with filler. Even without the fillers Hokuto no Ken is still a long-ass series. And the anime doesn't even cover the last arc of the manga. I wonder how the Remake will handle the pacing. Is it going to be a full-on remake that faithfully adapts everything or is it going to be like Urusei Yatsura where it'll adapt only a handful of chapters (assuming that it's going to be a TV series)? The former seems very unlikely tbh. At the very least I hope it'll cover the ending of the manga. |
