I thought Kaoru's episode was really well done. That was one difficult academy!

Wow the cheese is real in this one. What was up with this ending? SUNSHINE THROUGH THE CLOUDS and EVERYONE RUNNING HAPPILY. Also why did this guy die? He opened his belt just because??? At least the episode served to explain Kaoru believably.

Yeah, he wouldn't have died if he didn't open his seat belt for no good reason other than the fact that it was necessary for the plot. And that's quite a dumb and rookie mistake for someone who is supposed to be top of his class and near perfect in every conceivable way. But still, the rest of the episode, for a change, actually was quite emotional and didn't feel as cheesy, until, of course, the lame sunrise scene towards the end.

And turns out Kaoru always was an emo edgelord. I was expecting the past Kaoru to be a bit more normal and cheerful, who later changed due to this tragic event.

Lmao, most retarded anime death.

But the episode was still fine.

The animation was pretty good here, and kaoru's past was done very well although there are some questions about it...
But this ep presents what I love in this anime, every character that has his own "develop ep" changing his personality afterwards.

To float in space forever, that's beyond devastating.

Nice backstory.

Somewhat cliched, but pretty good backstory.

Also, Howard's the funniest dick as always.

Yeah, really cheesy death just for the sake of the plot, as some have pointed at.

For one, why did he undo his seatbelt when it was definitely against procedure, and the ship can handle a few minutes of decompression. For proof, Kaoru made it out alive and he was wearing the same equipment.

For two, and speaking of spacesuits, in such an era of interplanetary travel you'd expect their gear to be a bit more advanced and, like, maybe also handle the vacuum of space? How damn far were they away from the space station? Couldn't the station just dispatch a rescue unit right after to retrieve Louis? He had his spacesuit on, he won't die immediately.

For three, this was a freaking dust storm, which could have been forecasted given their technology. Asteroids just don't pop up out of thin air. I can understand that the gravity well that stranded our protagonists in episode one was most likely a once-in-a-million-year event or whatever (still, they had a name for it and immediately knew what was happening, which leads us to think that in fact maybe not). But for an exam you'd expect the school to take at least some precautions before sending off their examinees.

And finally, wasn't Kaoru still in the midst of dodging incoming asteroids when the incident happened? How come is he still alive??

Well, guess I'm expecting a tad too much from a kid's show. That was still fairly enjoyable though, so whatever.
You just can't spell slaughter without laughter...
