I don't think yours is the special edition, it looks like the special edition is called 'Economy pack' and has different art to yours

You say it has Chinese subtitles, can you look and confirm if any of these texts are on the DVD back cover?

機械巨神 (Chinese (Taiwan))
鐵甲人 - 地球靜止之日 (Chinese (Hong Kong))

I am guessing it's Hong Kong release because it includes English subs, but still.

EDIT: I found your DVD on a website. Looks like you have the last episode of the collection, which has the same cover art as yours.

From what info I could gather from the Chinese Wikipedia, the anime was distributed in Hong Kong by Asia Video (亞洲影帶). It is called 鐵甲人 - 地球靜止之日, so you can Google it and find out more maybe.

Most things with Chinese and English subs are illegal bootleg DVDs from Hong Kong put out by criminal organizations. One way to tell is the region codes countries are locked into. China is region 6, Japan is part of region 2. There usually would not be a release that would play in both countries, let alone contain English. There are a few legal region free DVDS and BDs but I don't think that is one of them. The only ones I own are from a company called Tai Seng and they mostly deal in Asian Dramas. There are also cases in which the Japanese company who owns the anime puts out an "International version", but that's usually Blu-ray. Bandai has done it with Gundam titles and Pied Piper as well with Time of Eve: The Movie which also included Pale Cocoon and Aquatic Language.

NTSC and PAL are different from region coding. They deal with what type of electronic signals televisions and other video devices can display.

https://learn.corel.com/blog/ntsc-vs-pal-what-are-they-and-which-to-use/

Region codes only exist to control copyrighted content. If you were in France and bought a DVD player it would be factory preset to only be able to play region 2 DVDs or if it were a Blu-Ray player it would only play region 2 DVDs and region B Blu-rays. If you tried to play any disc coded for any other region it would put a message on the screen saying it won't play it. All releases should have a little round globe symbol somewhere with a number inside it that tells you the region.

Again thanks for the reply, learned new things today.
I just checked the box and there is one in a camera next to the NTSC, i guess that's the region code.
