THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
We had to wait two weeks instead of one week for this episode, but it was totally worth waiting! In my opinion this episode was the best so far. Pacing was well done (not rushed or not slowed without a reason); art was beautiful and full of details (so was the animation); action and emotional scenes were pleasant to watch.

It was great to see Scorpio Milo fighting with Athe, but what I waited for so bad was his duel with former Orion Saint, Rigel. Not only because this fight was full of effective actions in the manga, but also to see Rigel's feelings not towards Eris, but Kyoko who became a host for evil goddess' soul.

So many things happened in this episode, and more are to appear next week! Galaxian Wars are close as ever, and judging from the preview we will be able to see Pegasus Seiya. :) I'm wondering how are the creators going to deal with o involving duels from Galaxian Wars. Slideshows, or maybe short fighting sequences? We will see next week.

I FULLY AGREE. THIS EPISODE WAS GREAT. Death in Saint Seiya was often only emotional to me once the characters were built up immensely and losing them seemed impossible. Here I had watery eyes already. I know we didn't get to feel the relationship between Mii and Shoko regarding Kyouko but their faces in the wreckage said it all. Tied in with a burnt up Rigel who was simply fighting for who he loved(he took 14 scarlet needles for her!), a Milo who just killed a child for peace's preservation, and Athena who was trembling in tears after yet another saint under her died just after Toki's death hit her that hard. And to see Kyouko sacrifice herself and take the final needle like that only helped sell that relationship between her and Shoko. It was tragic as all hell.
I somehow doubt this will be the last time Saori cries Mayura... Milo's line to Shoko hit hard too, "you can hate me if you want". I always loved Milo so much. His compassion is hidden in his brutality yet he's one of the most compassionate saints. He knows what he did was awful for her and I bet he actually wants to atone for it with Shoko's hatred.

Luckily it wasn't all tragedy. We got to see however briefly Shoko's resolve for Kyouko as she broke out of Milo's trap. She's very similar to Rigel in that her one purpose is saving the person she loves, but she already went through Mayura's trial. She would kill herself to save Kyouko but she wouldn't damn the world like Rigel would. That is the difference in why Shoko's possibly metaphorical evil seed fizzled out and Rigels stayed until his end. That simple difference...

We saw Rigel's evil seed had been sparked through a deep desire to protect one he loved even if it meant selling his soul to the devil. Even though we don't know his past to take on 14 scarlet needles for her shows she means a lot to him. Enough that in Milo's words, he would take the host's life over peace. It only helped create the tone that the rest of the episode mastered.

I was worried we would lose some of Milo's strength in Sho but he got out of this without a scratch. They really sold all of his best qualities and his strength. :) Also regarding Milo, I hadn't thought about the intrigue in sending him here under Athena's orders to meet face to face with Athena's own cosmos. He had to have been filled with doubts for who HE was fighting for in that moment. This is one of the most interesting aspects that I hadn't actually thought about until moments before it occurred in this episode!

Eris and her cronies seem to have a deep hatred for Athena and humanity. They're interesting in that way. I can't imagine that was the true end of them.

This was a very interesting and personally unexpected turn of events. Shoko and Saori and Mii have been left traumatized and I don't even know where we go from here... I guess it's time for Saori to commence the Galaxian Wars..

When you have problems involving gods and things get complicated, you just have to call Milo. He will solve your problems in just one episode.
Stupid sexy Milo and his shinning armor.

I loved this episode.

It was okay. I can't lie something about this is working for me even when I know the individual elements are average. It's been compelling as an introduction to the Seiya franchise but I really cannot put words on why.

This episode was pretty great but I do take issue with this:

The animation was good? Please, I wish it were, but it actually sucked a lot. I also feel like the entire series has been rushed. Like, there's hardly any time to pause for effect, everyone just rushes out their line and then they change scenes, not to mention skipping setup in some parts. The anime has been fun to watch and the latest episode has even been pretty hype, but it has its flaws.

BTW, I have the avatar I have because I'm a Scorpio (not that I think it does anything in real life) so seeing Milo get the spotlight this time as opposed to Aiolia is pretty sweet.

There really was a battle with Eris, and Athena took part on it! Kyouko's sacrifice was poignant, but I wonder if Eris is truly gone with this. Her real (?) form of a winged serpent is also pretty cool.

I felt bad for the guy too, he dedicated himself to become a Saint, and he became a powerful one, but since he was only human he couldn't truly leave his heart behind, and betrayed Athena, becoming a Ghost to try, and protect the one he loved. Miro was really cool here too, and the ED playing a different part of the song was a nice touch.

Compared to the earlier episodes, this one simply looked better. Animation was more fluent and detailed, and successfully cooperated with beautiful art which we were able to see.

Sure, the animation was not perfect or flawless and it was not "from the top shelf" of animacy, but in my oppinion in Ep. 4 it represented the highest level among four episodes released so far to this date; what's more, it looked good along with the artstyle.

That's why I emphased and praised the animation, though bear in mind I do know of course it was not perfect nor having a level of animation that can be compared to animes who are said to have the best animation.

Though I will insist on the matter of Ep. 4's animation that this episode had actually pretty fine animation. ;p

Look, I don't hate this anime or anything. But praising its animation when multiple different scenes looked like cardboard cutouts of the characters sliding across the screen, that's giving them too much credit. Maybe this was the best animated episode so far, its still worse than even the most average seasonal anime. They probably have a shoestring budget, but that doesn't erase the bad animation present here.

I would lie if I said animation looked good, and I love franchise.

My favorite part was next episode preview with new version of Pegasus Phantasy, and how title "Fly! Like Pegasus" is direct reference to the last lines of that song.

Haha, yeah I know it was not a hate or something like that. I just wanted to expand my previous post and refine what I wrote in my first post, because it indeed sounded as if I gave too much credit for the animation, or my short phrase gave a feeling of praising it (the animation) as something objectively great.

So, to summarize: it was not top-tier animation, but it was not bad either in my oppinion. I would say it was good and went well with used artstyle, although if the artstyle was worse quality, then I'm afraid I wouldn't be so lenient in my oppinion about animation in Episode 4. ;-)

Though I understand you can have completely different oppinion on it. As I said, animation was far from being top-tier, and without this pleasing to the eye artstyle it could look generally worse. In episode 4 it was not "beautiful and full of details" as I wrote in the first post, more like - if I were to make it more precise - "better than in the previous episodes' and with a noticeable increase in its quality". ;p

Despite that, I must say I'm really happy to see that the quality in this anime is slowly improving, both about its story (mostly its pacing) and about animation's quality.

I doubt it, it felt a bit anticlimactic for a major goddess of Greek mythology to just die like that.

The few moments where a character sheet suddenly stuttered or slid along the background looked really weird. At least, the story was fine (despite being more and more incoherent with the original, well it's StS after all).

3.5-/5 Pegasus Fantasy was a nice bonus. But if the next episode doesn't "guest-star" Furuya, it will be a major deal breaker.

@gfsdfgsdgsdfgs The usage of Milo felt both right and wrong: right for the wanted attitude, wrong for the fact he is not one of the doubtful Gold Saints (or one knowing the secret à la Aphro, ignoring issues à la DM).

@Ulquiorra No, the series will just wander a bit (not too long if they keep making synopsis-like episodes) before turning back to its story.

@Psajdak What?! So, for all the other appearances of the character, the guy behind Bleach Ichigo's voice is the one dubbing Seiya like in the second part of the Hades chapter? -_-
Also, Seiya's age is pretty irrelevant, Furuya is still voicing Amuro. Be it for commercials, videogames or even in series when the character is actually younger than in 0079.
I guess I'll check his Twitter for a mention of Shô.

Morita will voice Seiya in upcoming episode.

Furuya only returned to his old role when he was voicing him in Omega, where he is 38/39 years old.

Nice episode but I feel things are too rushed. The animation of the characters are beautiful but when they move its total shit, the fight scene was bad too (Toei beeing Toei), so far Im liking it

Yeah, Saintia Sho's version of "Pegasus Fantasy" was awesome to hear, even if it lasted few seconds in the preview. I hope we will have opportunity to hear longer version of it in several hours, after episode 5's gonna be released. :D

About seiyuu to voice Seiya, it is as Psajdak wrote. In the upcoming episode Masakazu Morita will voice Seiya. I liked him as Seiya, but indeed it would be topping to hear Toru Furuya again as Seiya. It could've been a return not only to voice a certain character, but truly going "back in time" to the times when Seiya's journey just began, 'cause in "Saintia Sho" (minor spoiler from manga incomming)
. It would be cool to hear young Seiya, newly appointed as a Saint, voiced by the same seiyuu he was voiced back then many years ago.

There's visible increasing trend in this anime's quality, so I'm moderately optimistic now about future episodes. ;p

It looks like the final battle but we're only in the fourth episode. Are they going to introduce new characters like the opening? Cuz its going to be too late at this point. We're fine with 4 main female characters, please don't introduce more.

so seiya himself (and maybe the other saints from the og series?) are gonna be in it, at least as a cameo in the next ep, I definitely didn't get this far in the manga then when I read it years ago
