This adaptation is rushed as fuck, cuts many important sequences and doesn't even reproduce the slightest hype the manga creates. The scene where Masaru controls Arlequin in the manga is incredible. Here, it's just boring and tasteless.

That was unexpected. This looks really bad, but hopefully Narumi somehow survived.

That was an unexpected occurrence, but is Narumi really gone like that? Wow! I must say this was saddening especially when he gave those words of encouragement to Masaru before he perished.

Can't say it was a good episode,

Great episode, it's been a long time that I don't see an unexpected plot twist like that.

Originally I forgot most of the plot details. But after watching episode 4, the plot felt so weird that I went back to re-read the manga vol 3.

One of the most weird things is how Masaru could survive a huge fire simply by someone covering him by body, and how a fire could cut off an arm with such a sharp and clean wound.

So, the fact is, in manga they escaped to an underground water tunnel. What hit them hard was not fire, but water flushing in. It made much more sense how Narumi died this way, which made the scene much more touching. Narumi's death was originally the first major scene of the story. But now I feel nothing when watching it in anime.

Animation quality also dropped since the 1st ep. Honestly, at this moment, the anime adaptation is rather disappointing for me.

I kinda expected this to happen eventually because Masaru is already a badass, but damn that was fast.

Will he be ressurected in some way tho?

And here I was just about to rant about Masaru stating he'd stop being a crybaby proceeds to cry multiple times in the episode even got fooled again by his uncle lol but forget all that, Narumi is dead remembers he's a main character nah

Could be shocking and sad, but it's only 4th episode out of 36 and he's the main character, so... Apart from that, very intense episode, lots of things happened and I'm finally invested in all of this, let's hope it'll be even more interesting later on.

Another big oversight that leaves people with so much question mark in last scene is there's actually an underground pipeline in the bottom of the house, and Narumi broke the wall so the water can get in. That's why Masaru can survive in the fire.

I seriously don't know why the hell the studio skip this part which takes 20 seconds to add in to make the plot makes more sense.

Cheers for that!
I was like he can't die! And was just getting the feels and then started thinking "well how the hell did Masaru survive then?" which took me right out of that moment!

Like everyone is saying, they pulled a Gurren Lagann/Kamina on us. I don't understand how Narumi's arm is left behind but the rest of him was burnt or gone.

Poor Shirogane, she couldn't smile one more time for Narumi. :( My ship. MASARU You better not stick your shota sauage in her, she's for Narumi!

Kidding aside, I'm so happy to see how much of a badass genius Masaru has become, I'm still on the first chapter of the manga because I'm reading so many series now but I hope to catch up and see the parts that they left out.

Such an emotional journey :(

Wow. Just wow. This episode was masterpiece level. Narumi is such a fantastic character, and seeing him "dead" like that possibly, was crazy. Masaru's a bad ass, so if he's now the main character I'm perfectly fine with that.

I'm not a manga reader:
1. It was a chapter, exciting, I felt it long, many things happened.
2. For what they say they omitted things, we do not know to what point the scriptwriters can modify the story.
3. Remember it is an adaptation, do not expect 100% fidelity.
4. Enjoy the show.
5. I'll read the manga, when the anime is over if I want more.

I can only say, yeah, 36 episodes is too harsh for this adaptation... Skip too much and make the intense sequence very weird...

Wow, I get the manga is probably really really long but I mean the studio was generous to give a show 36 episodes.

Considering all the other long running shonen got 70~140 episodes, 36 is really harsh though...
Even cutting down the worse part of the story, I feel like around 60 episodes is more appropriate. (And this manga has really little filler mind you)

If it's first season, 36 episodes is fine. But it seems they want to adapt full 43 volumes into 36 episodes.

I don't want to see something like Tokyo Ghoul tragedy happen to this serie..

True. I suppose deciding to rush the series instead of just adapting it normally and maybe not finishing is a better idea. What would you prefer? For the anime to never finish but be not rushed or for to be finished and rushed?

I rather this series end in a high note, good enough for people to finish the rest through manga.. And maybe, just maybe, if the anime committee gives it fund for season 2, it can finish it. Like I said, desert arc is a pretty high note for the series. (Ended at around vol 23, which is appropriate for 36 episodes.)

Still better than rushing it and become Tokyo Ghoul 2.0. Just go check the fans' reaction this season.

Umm....WTF just happened. It was an emotional ride but almost everything made no sense and that's very bad. If this is an adaptation failure then this shit is a "Tokyo Ghoul 2.0"

This episode was intense. Masaru is fine after jumping out of the window but Shirogane is badly injured now. And what about Narumi? There's only an arm left of him. It gave me the chills.

I am wondering how Masaru was able to act so badass all of a sudden. And he can 'play' the Arlequin pretty easily too. Did his grandfather taught him that? Shirogane's backstory was sad and I hope she will be fine in the long run. Also, Narumi has to be okay right? Let's hope he will transform into a clown haha! ;) Can't wait for the next episode!
