According to Chugoku Newspaper, Nakazawa Keiji, the author of manga Barefoot Gen, retired from mangaka. Nakazawa announced by himself that his chronic diabetes and cataract got worse, and he doesn't have enough eyesight to draw manga. He apologized that he gave up writing the planned sequel to Barefoot Gen.

The poor man. Well, that's what you get if you don't buy their manga. Nah. Not enough eyesight to even continue drawing? Man, that's a bummer. At least it's due medical reasons, the only good reason to quit.

Real shame he won't finish the sequel. He's earned his rest though.

That's all sad. I had been looking forward to a sequel. I'm happy he didn't die of any horridness caused by the a-bomb as many people did who lived in Hiroshima. Yes, this book really affected me. I was aware of the horror of what the innocents went through, however, I wasn't aware of a lot of what the US did in trying to cover it up. War is wrong and doesn't ever really solve anything. I hope he gets the rest he so duely deserves.
