Why the fucking hell is Chariot still hiding her identity? Is it because she just wants to make Akko keep going?

She doesn't want to spoil Akko, aside from that as of the moment seeing Chariot is her only motivation for finding the words.

There's no way motivation is an issue. At most, a really bad excuse.

Akko would be even more hyped to find the last word if she were to be motivated by Chariot herself. She would never want to disappoint Chariot, not by any stretch of the imagination.

If anything, it's easier to argue that she'd be way too eager. But at least to me, that argument doesn't hold much ground either because it's not like Akko could be even more reckless than now.

so after like 20 slice of life episodes suddenly it shifts into .. this. It does not blend with the rest of the anime at all. Although akko is still one of the most annoying MCs imo. Probably the most annoying female MC for me.
4 eps left so my guess is the last will be everyone is happy and now lets get the beach episode. So the other 3 will be her finding the last word by learning that ursula is chariot and thus stopping croix from cheating. Lets see how this goes.

Im a bit mad that lotte and sucy are pretty much nonexistent in this cour.

Finally getting a little more information... great. This was an enjoyable episode.

That being said, I can't deny the plot convenience in this series has started to really rub me the wrong way. Croix is pretty eager to do something good before the staff is given to Ursula, then suddenly becomes a major bitch because for some reason her jealousy is more important than her goal was. She won't stop misdirecting Akko because she's "Chariot's last hope"... really? Years later and she still hasn't gotten over her irrational burst of jealously? That's not only absurdly convenient, but also as cheesy as it gets.

Then, there's Ursula who lets Croix misdirect Akko and doesn't move a finger in order to change the situation. She doesn't tell anyone else in the school what Croix is up to. She doesn't tell Akko that Croix is full of shit. She still hasn't revealed her identity to Akko because plot convenience.

There was also some stuff that really made me scratch my head in this episode:

(1) Why doesn't Ursula tell Akko the tree has no end in the first place? This doesn't have much to do with finding out the meaning of the word yourself, because it's not directly related to gratitude. Weird. But I guess that's because the whole tree thing is weird if you think about it.

Which brings me to my next point...

(2) There's no connection between gratitude and climbing a tree, unless you do it when it's dangerous and someone saves you. That means Ursula's initial suggestion that Akko should wait is a huge contraction, unless you assume she would get tired of going up and be thankful for the help she'd probably need to get down eventually.

But for that to work, there has to be a catch, which is...

(3) Why on Earth would someone have to climb the tree instead of flying? You can fly around it just fine.

Oh wait, if someone does that, they won't need help and therefore won't feel gratitude. Yeah, let's give this person a handicap.

But that's also flawed, because it would be a major failure if the person climbing brought a broom along to fly back. That's the first thing that would come to my mind if I were to climb a tree that huge. In fact, Chariot had the rod with her the whole time, which supports my argument.

(4) Why would Croix attempt to save Ursula (when she screams) as if she cared about her, when she supposedly only wants to take hope away from her? Then she gives up for no reason whatsoever and lets Ursula fly back and save Akko instead of accomplishing her initial goal because... plot convenience.

(5) Also, still on Croix's behavior, why would she tell Chariot to accept the staff after that burst of jealously, just to act like a bitch in the current time? It's like a case of split personality where one of the personalities forgives the person and the other holds a grudge forever.

Again, this was one of the most fun episodes lately. But why does it have to have so many holes? I'm starting to get tired of this much plot convenience and nonsensical logic.

I agree with you on the whole tree-climbing thing being somehow related to gratitude, it was a pretty flawed logic, but I think you're wrong when it comes to Croix's motivation.

Her reason for wanting to destroy Akko's and Chariot's path is because she wants to wake the tree herself and become the greatest witch in the world, like she said in the forest back when she was young. It's not merely out of jealousy. And although that is so, you can see she still cares for Chariot and doesn't wanna kill her or anything. It's not unrealistic to have contradictory feelings, such are human beings. Her words "destroy your last hope" were probably to crush her determination.
It seemed to me that she let Chariot fly to Akko's rescure because she was sure both would get poisoned. She said it herself there was not enough time to save her.

Also, about not being able to fly around it, it was Croix who said so, no one else said that, I think it was to make sure Akko would get poisoned.

Unless I missed something important or it has something to do with a plot point (whatever Croix has been doing) that hasn't been explained yet, I don't think anyone other than Akko can activate the words. After all, Akko is the one chosen by the rod and you need it in order to do so.

As for the whole "become the greatest witch in the world" reasoning... I don't know. Witchcraft isn't a competition, so that explanation seems just as bad as (not to mention pretty childish) a mindless villain who's evil "because he's evil". As in 100% evil without a single redeeming factor and no believable motivation - a villain with no depth, who's in the story just because there has to be one. I find Diana's obsession for power far more believable.

And yeah, it was Croix who said Akko couldn't fly, but in the past Chariot also attempted to climb the tree without flying, so I don't see any reason to believe flying was okay. But then again, we've already agreed that the logic behind having to climb the tree to feel gratitude is pretty flawed and as contrived as it gets, so I don't think that matters much.

My guess for the grand finale is that Chariot did lose her powers, and now it's up to Akko to find the 7th word to restore magic to the world and restore Chariot her powers. The 7th word will have something to do with friendship or unity, which is why Chariot never found it because Croix and her had a falling out and didn't try to find it together.
Although I think this 2nd scenario is unlikely, maybe Chariot is the one to find the 7th word and it was the Shiny Rod's plan to use Akko to get back to Chariot since she was originally chosen. Chariot is best girl, that's why I like this scenario.

Isn't Akko a bit rude towards Ursula? It annoys me. So for you to take someone seriously, they must be stern all the time? That's pathetic.

Shut up Akko. Don't be so selfish in front of the woman who's been so supportive to you. You can't judge a person just like that.

Croix you jealous woman.
So she still cares for Ursula/Chariot somewhere in her heart. Okay.

Oh well, at least they collected the word. And Akko accepted her mistake.

I might just have been in the right emotional state to watch this episode, but it was very touching.

I really like that Akko questioned whether she's grown at all, and that she finally gave Ursula some appreciation. I expected this to happen after Ursula revealing herself as Chariot, but this makes it sweeter.

I also like that Croix's relationship with Chariot isn't quite hatred (she didn't mean for her to die from the drop), and it's more than petty rivalry (she's implied to resent Chariot more for failing her quest despite having access to the rod). And it's kind of fun that she plans to unlock the Grand Triskelion by brute force, using that magitek stuff.

So I just saw next episode's preview and... omg :x
I really liked this episode. Diana's friends thanking Akko was a nice touch too. But don't blame Akko too much, she's young, impatient and immature... even though Ursula/Chariot is obviously trying to help her, it's not too difficult to understand why she wouldn't see it. Croix also looks cool and is loved by all students, all staff also remembers her as a prodigy... so I don't see why her words wouldn't cause Akko to have doubts about Ursula, who looks so shy and awkward, and whose past no one talks about. She's not even very respected even by some of the staff. Even though she's always been nice to Akko, of course. But yeah, the drama is going up! The show has only 4 episodes to go and everything is gonna be solved soon. Still, I gotta say: I'll miss it dearly!! :<

So far this is probably the best episode in my opinion...

We can finally see how Croix have bad terms with Chariot by a good flashback about them, but I still thinks that Croix still has the softie for Chariot though. And I'm quite disappointed to think that Chariot will reveal her identity in this Episode after Akko reveals the 6th word but She doesn't. Aw man!

Looks like Croix has other grand devilish plan to force her way getting into Grand Triskelion now. Andrew probably will shows up in the next Episode to give Akko's Hat back, but who knows? Can't wait for the next episode.

It was a cute episode, no doubt, but I had some problems with the pacing. Akko just changes her mind way too fast, I think it would be better if this was a two episode mini arc maybe.

Sucy saying Diana has gone soft really got me.

So, hopefully by the next episode Akko will realize she is not supposed to trust Croix. If we get by the next episode and she acts like it's all ok I'll get really frustrated.

I realised that Akko is an even bigger of an idiot than usual in the Croix episodes. Why is it in fiction that characters suddenly distrust people who are close and helped them for a long time just because the new shady character said so.
I should treat these episodes as ones focusing more on Ursula than Akko at least then I'll be less annoyed by her idiotcies. I mean if she doesn't trust Ursula then she should listen to Diana, the person who Akko just went out of her way to drag her back. If anyone (aside from Ursula) who be looking out for Akko now then it would be Diana. But no, Croix is who you should trust because she is on your side. For Pete's sake, one of the words was about patience and last episode Diana had to wait possibly 100 years to become head so Akko should know when to wait for a bit.

On a less negative note, I feel it there was a missed opportunity for why Chariot and Croix broke up at the tree. What if Croix was hit by the pollen because she tried to save Chariot/abandoned by her. That might explain why she is into science and collecting magic as she lost some of it years ago because of Chariot.

Am hyped about Croix's dark mecha shiny rod. And the conclusion of the soccer football game build up. And Andrew returning the hat. And Frank and Lotte hooking up. And Ursula revealing herself. And whatever Amanda and Diana will do.

Akko was absolutely infuriating in this episode. She has no reason to mistrust Ursula. 21 episodes and she hasn't learned a damn thing. She's as stubborn and rash as always.

And man, there were so many moments where Ursula could have revealed her true self to Akko in this episode, but they still didn't do it. Trigger is really waiting for the final episode, aren't they?

Really touching the final part, once so noticeable in Akko's eyes, the real terror for what is happening to him. But the best part of the episode remains the one where you really understand the intentions of Croix. Jealousy is a bad beast.

God damn what an emotional episode. And so much happened. Even if Akko still doesn't know Ursula's Chariot. So much I totally forgot the episode opened with two scenes in quick succession of Diana and her flunkies being nice to Akko for once. Glad that's all settled. Most of this episode though was Akko finding herself an unwitting pawn in the battle of wills between Croix and Ursula.

I didn't know Croix was THAT evil. That part of her motivation with Akko was purely to spite and thwart her out of jealousy. She's a pretty scheming character, the way she planted the seed of distrust against Ursula in Akko was masterful. Still she seemed to genuinely care about Ursula, if only for a moment, when she almost plummeted to her death. The conflict and her role as a villain must be escalating pretty damn soon.

This episode definitely gave me some strong feels like this series hasn't in awhile. Both Akko's emotional outburst and reconciliation with Ursula at the end almost had me tearing up. Not just because only four episodes remain but it must be time soon for Ursula to reveal her identity. I hope they pull out all the stops in this end game of the series.

This anime continues to amaze me.
Can't wait to see Croix getting defeated. She became like this because she wasn't the chosen one... and she also lost her powers since she was the one who stayed on that tree.
It was so sad watching Akko say those things to Ursula :( If she had revealed herself already, nothing of this would have happened. Can't wait to see that episode.

How should i know? Maybe it takes some time until she loses her magic, i don't know, maybe they can just walk back or whatever. I'm not the writter, i just stated a possibility.
You were stating possibilities without acknowledging that some of these things already had answers. In the episode we see how they arrive in the forest, so neither of them being able to use a broom would be a real issue there. Same goes for Ursula's hair.

Aw Ursula is really surprised about Akko's Succes bringing Diana back...and Hannah and Rebecca..wow, did not see that Thank you comming....looks liek their bullying on Akko is now over.

Croix....damn she is quite Manipulative....and Akko is stubborn Idiot! if she cannot Believe Ursula's warning, then She really should when both Lotte and DIANA are warning her about that Pollen! Why the hell she is believing Croix just like that!?

What ever Is Croix reasons...I cannot accept that she is willing to make Akko lose all her Magic!! but looks like she has soft spot still towards hers Once Best friend...wants her to fail...but not to die...

Damn Ursula is becoming really the best teacher...even if she Should already come out being Chariot!

Wait...Croix plans to do WHAT!?! Magic might not Exist in RL but even I know how freaking BAD IDEA is to try forcing something open with Pure FOrce....that will sure as hell cause some kind cataclysm reaction...on top of that doing that World Changing Magic Seal....Really freaking bad Idea...

Pretty much the only thing worth anything from this episode was the fake shiny rod that Croix was working on at the end there. There was literally no reason for anything in the middle of the episode to happen if Chariot just literally revealed her identity to Akko. I don't recall them giving any legitimate reason for it in the previous episodes, but I suppose keeping it a secret allowed the 6th word to be unlocked. I dunno, I just don't like how seriously this show is taking itself in the second half. The first 12 or so episodes were easily the best part of the show because it was just a goofy girl doing goofy things, and partly because the first OP was so much better than the second OP.

I spotted some references in the "twitter" avatars from Frank's phone:
-Ryuko's scissor-sword from Kill la Kill
-James Bond and his umbrella(?) / Kingsman(?)

It's nice to see how Diana, Hanna and Barbara are nicer to Akko now. Diana always cared about Akko, but she's less distant now, while Hanna and Barbara didn't behave like bitches and were tankful instead. Not bad. :D

Croix's goals are somehow understandable after seeing her backstory, but her ambition turned into jealousy. Manipulating the people's phones and minds, turning Akko against Ursula... Not okay. At least she showed some regret when Ursula fell after her attack (and barely stopped a few inches from the ground).

Diuon being Chariot's first word makes sense since her backstory with Croix had some parallels with the scene with Akko.

6/7 words and 4 episodes to go. Enough time for a good buildup and a great climax and a satisfactory resolution.

Ursula's inability to speak is getting worse and worse as the episodes go on. Instead of warning Akko about Croix she just kept quiet about it. "Oh Croix told you about that dangerous tree? Let me just keep quiet about it."

Meanwhile Croix is having an easy time manipulating our brainless Akko. All of which, again, could've been avoided if Ursula just opened her mouth and say something useful instead of being obscure about it.

Grrr while the series is nice to watch, this plot between Chariot and Croix is really taking away from the series for me. Everytime Ursula's poor communication skills show up my enjoyment of the show drops.

It's way beyond what my willing suspension of disbelief would allow, a person with normal brain capabilities wouldn't go about things the way Ursula is, it's ridiculous. She really deserved to have her magic removed. If this was a horror series she wouldn't have made it past episode 3

I watched several scenes twice and I still don't have any idea how unlocking this "star" through gratitude is related to the tree location. In both cases showcased here, it's nothing more than pure coincidence that gratitude comes to be expressed on site.

Despite that episodes are lately more generous in term of story-related events, this one seems awfully disconnected from the whole series, even after the Diana double-episode.

Great, classic case of the "I wanna be the Chosen One... but I wasn't chosen !! q-p" syndrome.

I actually woulda thought that if Ursula would've lost her powers to the pollen and Akko could feel the full brunt of responsibility of such a loss it would have taught her the best lesson, but meh.

-The conversation between Akko and Ursula felt forced as fuck, with Akko still seemingly not having learnt anything...
- It was cute that Croix actually cared for Chariot but it seemed out of place considering how far she's gone in the last few episodes to fuck everything up.
-The backstory between Croix and Chariot reminded me of Naruto and Sasuke.

After episode thoughts:
-I'm so glad Akko had that cathartic moment and conversation with Ursula. That was nice.
-Surprised Akko still doesn't know yet
-Also how would've Akko learnt the word if this didn't happen.

Akko was lowkey selfish as fuck in this episode, and while she has been selfish in other episodes, this one was in a much more serious fashion especially because she said she wants to find the words just for Chariot and that's it. It's a nice thing to add onto her character, I'd rather have her this way then be a protagonist that does no wrong and is one dimensional

So many unique personalities in this story, but they had to make the main lead a dunce eh.

Such a beautiful and sensitive episode, I look forward to see the consequences of what just happened.
Chariot is really trying hard to be the best sensei ever to Akko, and seeing them together like this really reachess me heart.

I was a bit disappointed in Akko this episode for so easily believing Croix over Ursula. The ending partially made up for it though and hopefully it won't happen again.

Finally the true intentions of Croix come into the open, even if his character is not the bad classic like those of the past, rotten to the marrow, which gave that irrepressible desire to break them down once there was the possibility, without hesitation. He is the kind of personage who, despite being wicked, maintains a trait of humanity, making the hatred he feels towards them make the hero of the moment waver, in choosing whether to kill him or not, in short, it is a great rip-off to find him in front of.
