Hmm, Minato vs. Yuuma. I think the battle was short, sweet, and intense as I would expect out of these two.

Too bad the time ran out as I wanted to see them battle more.

Episode was nice (Really digging these Gundam series simulation battles) but I wish that we got another crossover battle like in episode 1

I'd much rather seeing legendary pilots from every series go at it instead of this (Especially when you see what's coming in ep 3 lol)

After such an explosive premiere, the episode felt a bit underwhelming. Although the appearance of Sinanju was exciting.

You can really tell this is an Obari series.

I really like the Getter Robo-like art shifts, too.

Another white Sinanju. Another two lazy recolors. Same rivalry dynamic. Same super robot shtick. No AI dream match. No Emma x Seabook fanfic.

Winning Fumina and Hyper Gyanko next, so looks like the premiere format is a one time thing.

I like how this episode pays tribute to Gundam while also trekking the mecha genre's lineage.

Super robo vs Real robo.
Idealist vs Pragmatist

The wild protagonist follows down the super robo lineage; his Gundam design being far more flashy, his personality itself like that of G Gundam's pilot, the over-the-top move pool, gonzo poses, and the whole combination sequence.

And then there's the "no bullshit" glasses-kun who's all about proficiency; his Gundam practical-looking, none of that extra flashy additives, his move-pool very laser-focused, and his general approach to battle is far more plausible.

In a way, it represented the two pillars of Sunrise:
Tomino and Takahashi
pathos vs ethos
Driving everything through emotion vs discipline and decorum

The meta-narrative of this episode, when viewed with that bit of knowledge, makes it far more interesting than what actually happened in it.

So... I guess the first episode wasn't the rule.

Not only does it give up on the pilot's premise, but it ends up offering nothing more than a flashy festival of lasers, explosions and overpowered giant robots. No fight to see here.
