THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Oo nice, we got some action this episode down in the abyss. At the second layer, it got more dangerous so it was definitely expected. The Nakikbane Corpse Weeper) is pretty scary if you think about it...

I have to admit, Regu made himself quite useful with his abilities to help Riko.
There's some fan service just like in the manga although I think the anime kept it more tame.

That was so freaking good! The adaptation is spot on. The laser, the birds, the buildup, directing and the backgrounds were all amazing. The OST was also absolutely incredible and all the cute little sound effects they used were on point. I honestly can't believe how much care they are putting into this anime. Also, I'll have to say, the color pallet as they descend really does a good job to make things more unsettling and mysterious. Pretty excited for Ozen.

If they continue with this pacing, i'm pretty sure we'll get to see the father of the year
Edit: although no voice actor is shown, best dad is now on mal's list of the show's characters, so i think it's confirmed

I am still not very sure. I guess this episode ends with the ending of chapter 12. To have after 5 episodes 12 chapters is the same ration as to have after 13 episodes around chapter 30. I guess we might meet him, but doesn't look like the arc will finish in this season.

do you agree they picked up the pace a little compared to the last episode? i think this time it was not too much slow

They made it to Seeker's Camp. Regu with his incinerator saved saved Riko. That was a close call.

That bird eating-human using human cries to lure it's prey is quite the predator.

I expected this series to get pretty dark but man, seeing stuff like a cave raider being eaten and then that vision that Reg had was brutal

I love how things are progressing though, and this is the most intrigued I've ever been by an adventure series in a very long time.....The atmosphere and just seeing these creatures and these locations are so much fun to me

And THANK GOD, the series didn't hold out on the other white whistle lady.....I'm pumped to get to know her next week (Ozen sounds like a beast name too plus she seems and sounds like she's seen some shit and has a no nonsense attitude =o)

Great episode overall and also that Incinerator blast was too cool and I can't wait until Reg re-learns how to use it to its full potential

This episode was okay.

The creatures were cool, and the fight with the corpse-weepers was pretty awesome. Reg's use of his "incinerator" was neat.

The past few episodes have just been missing something.... and I can't really put my finger on it.

I went from feeling like this show was awesome, to feeling like it was just alright.

I think part of it is the knowledge that there's only 13 episodes, so I feel like each episode has to be extremely important. That said, I guess I just haven't felt like enough important things have happened in the past few episodes.

For instance, this episode really didn't reveal anything new. Reg used his "incinerator", but we didn't get any explanation of how or why he has it, why he can only use it occasionally, why it affected him the way it did, etc.

I also feel like this show spends a lot of time on really random, seemingly trivial things. We got an extended scene about food, and a talk about the semi-cannibalistic rituals of the cave raiders. While somewhat interesting, I didn't feel it was really needed.

In the same way, the time Riko spent lamenting the loss of her journal also felt wasted.

I understand that, in the grand scheme of things, these scenes aren't that long... but it brings me back to the number of episodes and feeling like every moment needs to be important.

Perhaps it will be moot and there will be more than one season. I guess we'll see.

The second layer is quite dangerous. Riko almost got eaten by a corpse-weeper, but Reg saved her in time with his incinerator. The dream Reg had was disturbing. They managed to make it to Seeker's Camp, but when Reg shot out his arms, someone held on to them. It turned out to be Ozen.

Awesome episode! There are anime original scenes and I love it! Props for giving more screentime for Mr. Monkey and co. instead of one-panel appearance in the manga!

With actual death shown in this episode, do rest assured that this is just an appetizer for what awaits in Riko and Reg's journey to the depth of the Abyss.

Next stop, their first encounter with a White Whistle, Ozen the Immovable!!!

This episode was more adventure focused. It felt really enjoyable, it showcased how the abyss and its creatures function within it and it did not overstay its welcome when portraying the darker scenes and fanservice. Keep it up with that great directing. Also like the OP and ED panel change. Reg was boss this episode.

I love everything the original creator did to make the abyss seem alive and interesting. All the wildlife we've seen up to this point has looked really imaginative, and some of them, almost like animals you could expect to find in the real world. I'm also loving the imaginative ways Reg is using his arms. Come one come all and meet Reg the Zipline Robot!

This bit's a little harder to pin down, but I've noticed the different societal views these characters have, but it's never called attention to in the story, because for them it's just daily life. They've been raised that way and I love that the writer thought of this

Boy, this is getting really, friggin good.

There were some very interesting creatures shown in this episode and the world building keeps amazing me. Definitely want some more of this.

The scene where Riki and Regu were dining showed also again how messed up their society is and with what kind of moral the people grow up.

And holy shit, dat laserbeam was crazy, for a moment I thought that I was watching Dragon Ball xD

And to top this episode off, we even got a nice cliffhanger too, can't to know more about the white whistle woman.

Holy moly, what an episode. The animation was just stunning in the ''Incinerator'' scene. The monsters looked great, too.

I was really into it, now we know a little of how dangerous the Abyss really is.

Inverted forest looks fucking great, love the environments.

Ozen looks dead. I would assume that she has seen a lot of shit (of course) and has a grudge against Riko (connection to Lyza and whatever transpired).

I'm so interested now.

Very enjoyable episode. The sense of danger is palpable and I'm glad Reg has a palpable Macross cannon in his hand. Will come in very handy soon I suppose.

Another good episode! It seems that Riko and Regs adventures are starting to get a bit dangerous but Reg has the amazing power of the incinerator...but he is scared he can't control it and is afraid he may hurt Riko.

Plenty of action in this episode with new creatures and stunning visuals. There was still a fair bit of world building info but that's not surprising considering the fantasy world they are attempting to set up in this 13 episode anime.

Overall it was an exciting and engaging episode that has me looking forward to next week when they meet up with the white whistle of the seeker camp.

Wow, the episode flew by.

My clear favorite episode so far and I think I'm starting to get hooked to this anime, that monster mimicking a help cry was so awesome, not to mention Regu's Incinerator, very solid interactions between the main cast as well.

Very interesting information about the curse of the Abyss: it affects less the further you're from the center. I can already imagine that the lowest parts of the Abyss will be pure hell since according to the map, the Abyss is shaped in a way that it gets smaller in size the deeper you go.

I'm hyped for what is to come, I want to know more about the characters that appeared at the end of the episode.

Just as I expected it became quite "dark" once they reached deeper levels. I wonder if main girl will stay so "happy" about everything later on. Robot boy sure starts to realize how dangerous the abyss can be.
Im really glad I picked this anime up, its a real gem. Ghibli vibe, interesting setting, no ecchi fanservice. Fantastic!

Also the OST is amazing. It fits really well, never gets to dominant that it interrupts the focus from the story, really fitting.

I am surprised too how they took the visual of the ending. I do not understand the reasons. It would be cooler if the characters and more descriptive places started to appear after the episode which presented them.

I still love this series to bits! Yet I'm worried by the scenes where Riko is half-naked is going to make some newcomers to the series be a little wary of that, I know it's not sexualized like how most trash Anime do with their under-aged Anime characters (aside from Reg, since we know that robot boi got a ding-a-ling lol) but man... I'm just worried, since I love this series so much and I want other people to watch it, if this keeps them away from it I dunno man, it's gonna suck badly
