THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

Damn, some of the background storytelling in this series are harsh to watch especially for the younger characters.

Beatrice's past is not pretty but at least she understands the princess. I get why now she is so protective of her from these episodes. Those last few scenes thise episode in the sky were dope.

We had three closeup shots of the cavorite ball this episode.
I bet Ohkouchi is going to make the "losing an arm" arc out of this.

A episode full of action.

Poor Beato, she is like a cyborg.

I think that the Princess and Ange are twins, they look alike and in the flashback they are identical.

Pretty depressing and fucked up what happened to Beatrice in the past....I hope her dad got thrown in jail for that shit,

I really appreciated that they took the time to explain how she can mimic any voice though (Due to her cybernetics) and I also liked how it was used to get them out of this bad situation too

Loved how they used the whole calls scene to expand this too and it really goes to show that the director and writers are paying attention to every single detail that they present in the show and are also using them in significant ways

Overall another great episode (Action scenes was pretty good yet again) and I am loving how much layers there is to Ange with every scene that she's in and the team dynamic is coming along quite nicely imo....Nice episode for Beatrice too since we got to see her motivations and view points on this spy stuff

Poor Beatrice. Seeing her past was hard to watch. Can't believe her own father did that to her. The reason she's overprotective of the Princess is that the Princess befriended her. It's nice to see Ange and Beatrice are getting along.

The action scenes were awesome and I'm impressed by Ange's skills. She really is a top spy. That parachute scene was nice.

The amount of Wtf in this episode completely ruins the fun.

What the fuck is Beatrice thinking in the whole mission?
How the fuck a headphone can be so fuckin loud?
Why the fuck would they think it's a good decision to bring Beatrice in this mission?
How the fuck the whole team doesn't even care that Beatrice bring that gun pen in the mission?
Why didn't they at least teach her about the basic things about being spy before the mission started?
Why the fuck the spy agency easily accept the who-the-hell-is-this-outsider Beatrice?
Why the fuck are they screaming the whole time in both open and closed room? Does echo not exists in that world?
What the fuck is even Beatrice doing ?

So if this anime has 13 eps and we saw case 13 in the first episode then was the finale shown in the beginning? Maybe, maybe not.

Beatrice's backstory hit me hard, that was really tragic. Really had to contain myself, they presented it really well with her voice trying to reach and the music behind it.

It was hard to watch Beatrice's past. Her father is a douche bag for doing that to her. I can see why she's so protective of the princess. The princess befriended her. Beatrice helped Ange escape. I'm glad to see them get along. The parachuting scene was nice.

Seconded and pretty much everything I wanted to say.

If anything I thought Beatrice was being a little too loud while talking considering that they were infiltrating a military class airship.

I'm really interested in learning what exactly the relationship between Ange and the Princess actually is especially since she can look exactly like the Princess if needed.

I get that it's no fun to listen to people whispering, but still, WHY ARE THEY ALWAYS SHOUTING xD

I wish they would attempt to make it seem like they were trying to be quiet while talking in secret in most parts of the episode, other than that, despite the general craziness, I'm enjoying the show

I REALLY hope they explain the bullet dodging a bit better as well... sure, Ange can do the whole gravity ignoring thing, but how does that help her dodge so many goddamn bullets...

this show started so well... I hope it doesn't mess up... x)

I don't see much of a need for an explicit explanation. Perhaps it'll be fully explained in the DVD/BD extra materials for those who really want to know such details. In the meanwhile, the cavorite sphere probably has an effect on movement speed too, precisely because it is used to control gravity. The bullets can presumably be affected by both the wind, given that they were outside of the ship, as well as the cavorite field around Ange. Other than that, it's like asking why doesn't Tom Cruise or Daniel Craig immediately die whenever there is a massive shootout in their respective spy movies.

To be accurate, he wrote 6 out of 22 episodes of Guilty Crown. Also, Kabaneri was fine. Just predictable in the end. Besides, most of these questions below aren't real flaws and are closer to nitpicking or just plain silly.

Beatrice wanted to help the princess and it's not like they could all afford to antagonize her.
Headphones can, in fact, be pretty loud. This is not surprising at all.
The gun pen? That didn't cause any problems during the mission so I don't see your point.
I don't think they had the time to teach her much, nor would she readily accept being taught, but in any case her voice skills did end up being handy.
Beatrice is the person closest to the princess. It makes sense to have her on your side too.
She was being a little annoying, but ultimately well-meaning and saved the mission.

Even the loudest open-type headphones can only be as loud as someone whispering at some distances.
You can, by someone just saying "You've learn the basics, right?". See? It's basic writing 101, and I can't accept the writer doesn't include that line.
It doesn't make sense for a random civilian to become a spy overnight and just straight going into critical mission just for PRINCESS.
You called that "saved the mission"? doing 007-style?

Damn, this was yet another intense and fabulous episode even though it wasn't better than the previous episode due to some insignificant little flaws. It's been explained briefly regarding Beatrice's devotion to the Princess in some wonderful, unexpected and fine fashion. Seriously, though, I hope Beatrice's father got a life sentence or something for his devious actions leading to her getting shunned. I couldn't stand it one bit. As for the rest of the episode, it was simply action-filled perfectly and therefore great too. Needless to say, can't wait for the next episode to air.

Soooo...is it just me or Charlotte and Ange feels like more than friends? First "Ange" talks about how they could run away to live together in Casablanca. Then "Charlotte" talks about how she has to become queen so they can be together and stuff. That sounds more like a romance than anything.

To think that princess and Ange actually knew each other. So the two are childhood friends then and the reason that princess wants to be queen is because of a old promise that they agreed upon. Ange's personality is different around princess though. So the wall separated the two when they were little eh. I can see why Ange wants stop princess from entering the kind of life that she lives in though. Princess is the kind of person that wants the best for the people so i can see why she doesn't want to run away with Ange. To deceive everyone including herself eh. Ange is really a mysterious character. Its not surprising that Beatrice will be against princesses plan actually. Ange and her team are after all spies for the west. Still its nice to see Beatrice is still loyal to the princess and willing to protect her. That determination actually makes her look more cute. Its funny seeing Beatrice get so worked up on princess's behalf though. A club room that also doubles as an armory eh. Smart way to use a revolving blackboard though lol. Its nice to see that Beatrice is very loyal and protective of princess So this will be princesses first mission then. Nice to see Beatrice's character and backstory is explained here.

Her father though was a nutter who experimented on her own daughter eh. How horrible. That will explain why her bond with princess is so strong though. She was her first friend after all. Dorothy certainly knows how to use her charm to help her. I admire Beatrice for trying so hard to protect Princess though. Thats one way of infiltrating the ship but man that was a close one. It will take some time for Beatrice to trust Ange and the others i think. If anything Beatrice is also very brave as well. Still an interesting pair for this mission though. Man Ange's plan's really are daring sometimes. To think it changed from a stealth mission to a grab operation in the blink of an eye though. Ange running along the hull of the ship was cool though. Lol Beatrice's complain about the pay in regards to Ange's loyalty to the mission though. Im glad that they were able to fool that corporal though but Beatrice's ability really is useful. Their exit from the airship and Beatrice's words as they did was hillarious. Still despite the mishaps im glad that the mission was successful. Its nice that in the end that Beatrice and Ange managed to bond over their loyalty to the princess though.

I would disagree, even when talking about real headphones.
Does it look they had the time to teach her that much? It seemed like everything happened rather quickly. Furthermore, she is definitely not random for reasons already explained above.
Why, yes. I see nothing wrong with 007-style antics in a spy anime.

That's the whole point of this episode. Just to show her skills.

I wouldn't call it the entire point, as others have already talked about a couple of additional important things, but it is part of the objective.

While this show is certainly still stretching my suspension of disbelief somewhat, this episode was a significant improvement compared to last week's episode. Beatrice is a strange character, but she is interesting enough with her backstory to make this episode a step up from last week. Still, I'm nowhere near as on board with this as some people seem to be.

-oh so they're going in chronological order now
-somehow i feel like in the next 11 episodes they're gonna turn case 13 completely upside down
-DECEIVE THE WORLD
-looks like it's a beatrice episode this time
-yo is this a parody of school life
-whoa where the fuck did that backstory come from
-but that little maneuver beatrice did at the end of episode 1 makes total sense now
-wtf is this guard doing
-metal gear ange
-hey beatrice do you think you could like be a little quieter in enemy territory
-jesus fuck that was some mindgames
-alright that exchange at the end between ange and beatrice was pretty adorable

So this episode took a straightforward style of storytelling, as opposed to the last 2. On the one hand I'm somewhat disappointed because that gives me no incentive to rewatch the episode, but on the other hand it's kinda understandable because you can only do something so many times before it gets stale. This episode also felt pretty standard compared to the previous 2 episodes, and the only real notable moments this time around were when Beatrice first used the voice changer, and the dialogue at the end between Beatrice and Ange.

All the spy stuff this time around seemed like less of a display of skill from the main cast and more of a display of incompetence of the kingdom's security. Like, the soldiers during the shootout on the exterior of the airship were actively trying to hit around Ange. And the guard who took Dorothy to the bathroom was so incompetent it hurt. And Beatrice was always yelling her voicebox off smack dab in the middle of enemy territory. The entire spy section of the episode just wasn't at the level of the spy antics in the first 2 episodes, and unfortunately that came as a disappointment to me.

That's what I thought after the previous episode. Looking like someone is one thing, but having the same voice is something on completely different level. If Ange doesn't have synthetic vocal cords similar to Beatrice, then being a twin is the only answer.

Not as good as the previous episode but I must admit they're doing a good job with this show all around. Great art, pleasant character designs and a decent story.

Having said that, I find Beatrice's character immensely annoying and her voice grating to no end (now that we know she can change them at will couldn't she do tone it down to something more pleasant to the ear? She sounds like a pedantic 8 year old). But it really sucks what they did to her though.

It depends how much power you can give them and how easy the headphones are to drive. With my setup I could easily use my headphones as speakers and get them to normal speaker volumes so it's definitely possible.

Nexxkinn said:

Idk, why does that matter? XD

How the fuck a headphone can be so fuckin loud?

Cuz they're not common, run of the mill headphones? They're spies, they have access to modified stuff.

And even normal headphones can be loud if the OS and sound hardware they're connected to are set to max volume.

Why the fuck would they think it's a good decision to bring Beatrice in this mission?

They didn't, she came there of her own volition and most likely without permission. Anna even asked "why did you come along?", implying Beatrice didn't just asked if she could come.

How the fuck the whole team doesn't even care that Beatrice bring that gun pen in the mission?

Clearly Beatrice didn't show she had the pen gun until the scene where she pointed it at Anne, thus Anne was the only one who knew and she was confident it wouldn't affect her or the mission.

Why didn't they at least teach her about the basic things about being spy before the mission started?

That's the worse of your mistakes... They didn't make her a spy before bringing her. Like I said, she came there of her own volition. Futhermore she wasn't going to participate in the mission until she tripped and fell in the hole.

Why the fuck the spy agency easily accept the who-the-hell-is-this-outsider Beatrice?

Again, they didn't. Only after the mission they let her in because of her valuable voice ability.

Also what @furuuru said.

Why the fuck are they screaming the whole time in both open and closed room? Does echo not exists in that world?

The one mostly screaming was Beatrice who, as I said and say it again, was not a spy at that point and was also not eager to cooperate so she didn't exactly had the mindset to keep quiet.
Anna mostly talked in her usual tone which is quiet by default.

What the fuck is even Beatrice doing ?

As she herself said many times: Trying to protect the princess because she didn't trust the spies.

me: "none of this episode makes any logical sense, did you bring a cannon aboard a blimp? Did that girl want *salt* in her tea?"

also me: "you're a 30 year old man watching a spy anime featuring girls with a moe-aesthetic, who gives a crap? It's fun."

1) I thought it was already established from previous episodes that everyone in the main cast lies in this show to certain degrees, cause they're all spies and stuff. LOL. I think viewers should keep that in back of their minds when they watch this show.

2) Who cares about your age? If something is fun for you, you just go ahead and enjoy it. I do just that. There's no age restriction on entertainment. As long as it's not something that bothers others or breaks law, what's bad about enjoying something in your own private time?

As for this episode, I feel so sorry for Beatrice, but she's my favorite member of the team. She's so adorable yet brave and caring. :3
To be or not to be... that is not the question. ;3

The segment where they show Beatrice being operated on by her mad scientist dad was even a little shocking. Did her father only give her a bionic voice box, or other mechanical characteristics?

That's the whole point of this episode. Just to show her skills.
That's it.
And somehow the writer chose this way

The story would be so much better if Beatrice had a different personality. I agree; this was the worst episode so far. Some writers don't care about technicalities, I suppose. Regardless, it is rather enjoyable for a not-exactly-poorly-written storylayout, but one that could be improved.

lol hopefully people have caught on to the amount of lies they say but it appears not since every time i fall for it i'm like damnit!.

i'm avoiding getting salty behind the logic at certain times because it didn't take to much from the episode away for me ,Beatrice's background was pretty messed up actually made me feel bad for her but that didn't change the fact that i find her annoying as hell

Overall another great episode (Action scenes was pretty good yet again) and I am loving how much layers there is to Ange with every scene that she's in and the team dynamic is coming along quite nicely imo....Nice episode for Beatrice too since we got to see her motivations and view points on this spy stuff

exactly my thoughts as well

This was a bit more casual to me compared to the last two, but now we know how she joined the group. Less undercover, and more sneaking and shooting, so more exciting in that regards. Less twists though. Definitely interesting and was action packed this time around. I really love to see the military action in this episode.
Surprised they still used hand-crank machineguns.

The only person that get mys attention is Beatrice. Her "dedication" and feeling about Princess is so deep and about she hate spies but end up working together with them as long it's for Princess' sake.

Nice thought, Princess.
