I have to admit, that was quite an aerial dogfight or whatever it tried to do with the action.

Two girls riding a big gun against fighter aircrafts..
This episode further shows the cruelty of war with the pain and suffering. Fine and Izetta got along with each other better than I had thought. Well they did have a childhood history after all.

I'm guessing it will become a mouse and cat game soon with others looking for Izetta.

It further shows how generic and uninspir(ing)ed those plots have become. They could do infinitely better work with alternative history elsewhere, but they had budget. A pity, a waste.

Like the ost is this episode. Anyway I get me thinking after watching this, thisk ind of anime/story normally won't end up happy ending. I mean maybe the country or problems will be resolved at the end, but I doubt an abnormal existance like Izetta gonna survive.

I believe Izetta won't leave her "magical" Rifle with no particular reason. She'll have to retrieve back her Rifle.
That flashback of them, are so cute.

Very nice follow up episode.

The aerial dog fighting was awesome, Izetta's powers are really cool. Soundtrack was excellent throughout the battle as well.
Two girls riding a rifle in the air must be like one of the most awkward things you can see in a war (Based off the OP she even rides it like a motorbike).

As referenced by the title, Izetta is the last witch still alive. Wonder if we'll get some more background info on these witches that existed.
Nice to see that Fine is respected by the people of her country. :)

The time Fine and Izetta spent together as children was really sweet to see, Couldn't help but smile as I saw them playing around.
Looks like Fine saved Izetta from a witch hunt and that's where she got her injury from.

As expected Izetta decides to save Fine's country, Can't wait to see how the story develops from here.

OST sounds nice. Izetta's loyalty to Finé is pretty endearing, and their relationship is explained a little in the episode too. There being controversy in having her, a witch, around is going to be troublesome (especially in the situation they have now).

This could have been a great political war drama, but the Izetta parts just feel so tacked on, even though she's the main character. The show would be much better without Izetta lol.

Izetta will be hunting by Nazis, so maybe the best bet if she joins battle with Fine's country afterall.

I know she's supposed to be the main character and all that but man...I really hope that they fix how Izetta is supposed to blend into this series. Like she feels more like an outlier than a legitimate part of the story. I mean, yeah she's a witch and she uses magic but if you consider the drama of the show it feels like she doesn't really fit.

"Political War Drama WORLD WAR II AU!

Special Guest: A random witch."

That's what it feels like. Anyways, that OP though...the OST though...so much love. But as for the show itself, I'm hoping it gets better from here. At least they built upon the relationship between the females with that flashback.
Don't believe the hype.

Am liking the direction this story seems to be heading.
The dogfight was pretty cool, though the witch spikes seem kind of OP (yeah, I know she used her blood and all that, but still..). Liked how they showed other less heroic aspects of war, like the retreating and injured soldiers forced to camp out for the night for the princess and the field surgeon dressing down the wounds. Gave a bit of realism to the situation at least.

Can't wait to find out what the Germans want with Izetta and her powers. Hopefully it's more than just some "She'll be used to power our super destructive end-game weapon!" plot.

Not much happened, but still solid episode.
Proper story-telling here, with proper pacing. Continue this and we should get a great series.
Add one or two unpredictable twist up ahead and we shall get one hell of a series to remember.

Duno why is everyone complaining. It's not that bad. Seen far worse. At least no apparent plot holes yet, crazy as hell villains and retarded MCs. They are like a norm nowadays.

But I do agree that witch feels tad out of place. Would work better if Izetta was German or something. Something more down to earth.

First episode was better, but that was also pretty decent. Two girls in a huge gun vs fighter aircraft was good(I never imagined that I would write something like that xD).I like the friendship between the two girls have and I hope Izetta will be more revelant in the war and not just being obsessed with princess' company.

The dogfight was really cool, and the ost only made it better. Probably the highlight of the episode.

Also liked how they showed the defeated soldiers travelling through the forest after they retreated of the battle with they being healed by the surgeon and forced to stay in the forest. It makes the setting more like if we are really in the WWII.

Izetta's friendship is really sweet, being loyal to her friend until the end. I hope she doesn't get too OP against the nazis Germans, though, since that would made the battles predictable, and taking in mind she destroyed a bunch of airplanes like nothing this episode, I hope her magic has some limiatationd espite she being stated to be very powerful.

This anime has probably the best OST this season. Putting that aside, I liked that Izetta's magic is not omnipotent and that she run out of "power source" (I don't know if it's mana or spirits or something else). I also like that she wasn't able to heal Finé with magic.

It's good that they showed the terror of war (Germanian soldier killing civilians). And it seams this was the moment when they captured Izetta. But how they found that she is the witch?

The setting is what makes this show stand out imo. I was actually in Switzerland just 2 months ago and this show presents a decent representation of the alps. They've done an alright job capturing the time period as well so the immersion isn't half bad.

This was a very good episode. The dogfight was really cool, but the gun sounds from the aircraft sounded weird, like old fashioned gun sounds. Izetta's powers were cool as well. Seeing two girls riding a gun must be awkward to witness. That was my favorite part.

Shuumatsu no Izetta (Izetta, the Last Witch) Episode 2: 8/10

After struggling to get off the ground in terms of character exposition, Shuumatsu no Izetta’s second installment wastes no time in capitalising on the potential set up by the first episode, in particular the dynamic relationship between our princess and the witch. After first impressions of the (pretty good) Shuumatsu OP, we’re thrown straight into an airborne fight sequence between Germanian fighter pilots and our chosen duo astride a rifle. A lot of things about this sequence are very strong, including the animation and course of the combat itself, but particularly impressive was the contrast between the internal motivations of the combatants. The bureaucratic, orderly march of the Germanian empire is personified in the captain of the airborne squadron, who dismisses the possibility of a witch in “this age of science” and wastes no time in justifying decisive violence against anyone regarded as “the enemy.” On the other end, we get our first peek into what looks to be a nuanced and complex interaction between Finé and Izetta, both willing to commit to self-sacrifice on behalf of the other. Izetta is of particular interest here, because of the internal conflict between the guidance of her grandmother and her duty-bound tendency to protect the princess by any means possible.

Throughout the episode, a series of flashbacks and dialogue serves to enhance the complexity of this relationship. Izetta’s childhood as the last witch, left with no family but her grandmother, and instructed to use magic only when alone, leaves her isolated and lonely. When Finé stumbles upon her magic in a wood, a moment of faith occurs: “You’re not scared?” Izetta asks. Expecting rejection and ostracism, Izetta is instead greeted by Finé’s enthusiasm upon discovering a magic-user. This moment in which the princess nullifies Izetta’s isolation helps to put the witch’s commitment to the crown into perspective, and sheds some light on the nature of the relationship between the two. On the other hand, Finé associates Izetta with the mythical Weisse Hexe, and she explains how she dreamt as a child of flying through the sky alongside Izetta. While this end of the relationship is less well developed, it’s still part of the illustration of an impressive relationship early in the series. The conclusion of the episode, too, draws powerfully on this relationship; Finé’s dedication in Izetta’s memory engenders the young witch with determination to use her power and save Eylstadt.

Some notes:

-It’s hard to find a lot to criticise when a narrative arc is this incisive. I felt that the episode lacked a bit of punch, but that’s hardly a valid criticism two episodes in, where the rising action is still brewing.

-Touching briefly on the bedroom scene, because it is a microcosm of good character portrayal: In the short span of three minutes, I was convinced of the diversity of motivation among characters participating in dialogue, and acutely aware of a developed power dynamic. That is very good writing.

-Also from the bedroom scene, I thought it was nice to see that some thought was put to the cultural significance of the legend of the White Witch. The few snippets of perspective we got are hopefully a promise of a more full-fledged discussion about the power of legend.

Overall, I loved this episode essentially from beginning to end. If Shuumatsu no Izetta can keep its promises this well and keep the punches flying fast, we may have a masterpiece on our hands.

Another good ep. The ost especially was the best and the flashbacks of Izetta and Fine were adorableeeee

Izetta defnitely has a thing for her "princess" ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

It seems like there's some kind of limit with Izetta and how long she can use her magic and I guess it recharges over time?

I hope they'll have more info about the witches and how they played a role during that time

Very enjoyable.

The girls got some use out of that anti-tank rifle they're riding and took down one of the pursuing Messerschmitts with it. Magic accounted for two and the fourth was a pilot not paying attention. Battle outcome: Germania 0, Girls on AT Rifle 4.

For the flashback, I'm glad that they did not address the princess's scar in any detail. I'd like to see that scene but I think placing it in this episode would have been too much for the pacing.

The OP song and visuals are great! Though it could do without the expected and brief fanservice. The OST is absolutely amazing, definitely loving it thus far. Though the sound effects of the plane firing bullets was pretty bad though, sounds like something you'd hear from the SNES.

Some more Fine fanservice...and I'm FINE with that...BA DUM TSS!

Now we got the backstory/meeting between Fine and Izetta. They were adorable, even that corgi sneeze was cute. Present day Izetta is too kind and cute.

3/5- Animation is better though some scenes were a bit stiff. The OST is incredible while the sound effects like the plane firing it's bullets were laughable. Not a whole lot happens this episode and it was more of establishing Izetta and Fine's history on how they met. Now Izetta is choosing to protect Fine's country and I'm afraid this might end in tragedy.
