This was actually a quite fun watch, while I do see the somewhat connection with Dragon Ball, it sure has it's own little lovely setting as well!

So all in all a pretty lovely ova/movie I must say.

500 Yen for a little bottle of water ... what a scam!
What a waste to use the water that's hard to come by as "rain"
Oh god, the destructo disc memories :D

Lmao the samurai actually got the correct code and fell on all the right spots to unlock the safe, how convenient :D

And they live happily ever after :)

These characters were pretty fun, and I enjoyed the setting.
It's a shame Toriyama didn't do more with some of these one-shots that he wrote.
I could easily see Pink, Cobalt Blue, & the rest of them starring in a few more episodes.

Honestly, I really wish Toriyama would go back to doing more original stories like this, especially ones with a focus on adventure... instead of milking Dragon Ball dry.

I liked the master villain more, but it was not bad overall. Now the sheriff will be her father from now on, good for her.

5/10

I SPOTTED TORIYAMAS character midway through! EPIC! Finally I found this, and I love the little short flicks made in the late 80s and early 90s. I wish the man had done more shows like these, even in ova form. 10 episodes max, I would be very pleased. Watching this, I seriously got a flashback to Dragonabll, and instead of bulma being tall and goku short, the characters were like them but revrsed in a way. Though the sheriff had more of a grown up gohan face I guess this released the same day as Kunnosuke same and the 3rd DBZ film. 7/10!!!! ^~^. DARN CORPORATIONS! Like the road warrior with the water rationing in a desert land. O>o

Meh, I didn't like this one that much and found it to be a bit of a difficult watch for reasons I'm not sure of. I was honestly expecting something a bit different from this since something I read about this compared it to Ariel-chan, which is the only work by him that I've really liked. I think I just find his art style ugly and the yelling and overly dramatic fighting annoying, his stuff isn't for me evidently.

Seems like quite a few of Akira Toriyama's one-shots got adapted into short OVA/movies. I never actually finished reading through Akira Toriyama's Manga Theater, so most of them will be new to me, however I did actually read through Pink. There were quite a bit of changes, and to be honest, I definitely preferred the original in manga form. I guess it's good to know when I got into uncharted territory with the other adaptions, there's a solid chance the original manga will be different enough, and probably better.

The first change that's worth noting is all the different designs. Feels like most of the characters involved in this got a re-design, and for the most part I think they're all downgrades from the original. The sole exception is that I really like them replacing the Silver's goons for cute little crocodile dudes. Also, they make a point that Pink's affections for Blue are down to him reminding her of his father, but we saw pictures of her father, the only resemblance is that they both wear glasses. Is that really all she needs? She is a kid so it's possible, but I wonder why they wouldn't make the similarities more striking if they were going that route. I don't really like that change either, preferred the more crush angle in the original, don't feel like sentimental Blue adopting her feels earned but whatever.

Beyond that, I feel like the interactions in the manga were more amusing and charming (an example being the "why didn't you arrest me" scene). And a lot of the changes the story made to the plot didn't really work for me. Some of them are understandable and I don't really blame them. The bodyguards Grey & Rainbow are anime exclusive, and they're kinda necessary for extending the movie to thirty minutes since the original manga is quite brief. Didn't particularly care for either sequence, but they're not terrible. I liked that Grey's fight allowed for Black & White to get sometime to shine. Really don't like the change with Purple or the reveal of Silver's secret. Him just conveniently falling in a way to open the gate is just too dumb of a joke to work me. It was eye-rolling bad to me.

That's not to say I think all the additions are bad. I like the addition of Silver's pool, and seeing him goof off with the water I thought was a fun change to make him more goofy villainous and to highlight the disparity between him and say, Pink's stolen bath water. And they made more of a gag of raijin over-doing it with the water, which I thought was funny with Cobalt yelling at him.

Beyond all that, I will say I thought the music was really good. Might've been my favourite part. Animation was solid for the most part too. Overall, 5/10. I suppose there's a world where I hadn't read the original that I would've rated this slightly higher. Honestly if they just get rid of that aforementioned Purple gag I probably would've given it a 6.
