Woah, this is cool. E-cards seems quite fun (minus the whole "lose your eye or ear if you lose" part)
At first i thought "okay, wtf, this is just like restricted rock-paper-scissors", but then the twist with only one slave or one emperor per hand proved me wrong. Seems like it will be quite an intense arc. Playing against Tonegawa must be pretty stressful too.

And for anyone who missed it, the OST was released on tokyotosho, and it's great.

Pretty good episode, not a lot happens, but we learn the rules of the E-Card Game!
Kaiji VS Tonegawa seems like it will be pretty intense.
Thanks for the info, jobocan!

Yea I'm really liking this arc of the series so far too. Know for sure Tonegawa has some sick trick up his sleeve that won't be healthy for Kaiji lol

Thanks for the heads up btw jobo, checking out the OST in a bit.

I wonder how E Card is going to end up... you know for sure it's not just going to be played as twelve straight hands with no twists.

I was covering my ears in fear ;_;

That speaks of how well this series affects psychologically the viewer.

Tonegawa makes a pretty good mid-boss for the series.

Interesting, but the risk is very high this time. I wouldn't want to lose my one of my ears, let alone one of my eyes. But Tonegawa is smiling all the damn time, I'm sure there will be something we don't expect.

And I can only agree about the OST. Get it, it's amazing.

This is more like tree-fluid than RPS. The only factor Tonegawa and Kaiji are competing with is each other's patience. I'd personally be more scared of losing an ear than dying, just because of the pain involved with a ruptured eardrum.

Also, you just know that this will end with Kaiji beating Emperor with Slave.

Looks like were in for another fun, crazy arc. I kinda got spoiled earlier today about the risk of Kaiji losing an eye or ear, but the way he might lose it was very tense and kept me on the edge of my seat. Certainly more painful than the instant splat of falling off the bridge.

I was squeaming when they showed the drill/eye effects that may happen if Kaiji is going to lose some of the games. Especially the eye drill.

OST is amazing as mentioned enough in this thread already but thought I'd add another mention.

Hm, the odds for victory playing Slave side are only 4 times lower than Emperor's, yet they want to pay 5 times higher - what a benevolent gift this game is indeed :]
Anyway, seems Kaiji began quite well, though he should consider higher bet in these two first games, 15mm maybe? Because it's almost certain that the longer game will last, the more Tonegawa will be in advantage.

It was a good intruduction to the next gamble. The explanation of the devices really made me cringe. Aaaahhhh.
It seems this will be all about mind games over a seemingly simple game, so I am very much looking forward to what is to come.

I have to order the OST now..

At first I was thinking Tonegawa would have some cheap trick to knowing what card Kaiji set down, but who knows. I can't wait to see just what the twist is, I know this gamble isn't based on raw luck and predictability (What is, in this show?).

The millimeter gambling reminded me of the Washizu arc of Akagi, only that they were betting with CCs of blood >.< . I wonder if Kaiji will be able to buy back the millimeters he loses if the drill gets too close to his ear =X

The wait between eps is really going to kill me for this arc. I am dying to see Kaiji beat Tonegawa. Let's hope that he doesn't get his eardrum ruptured in the process. With this series, you never quite know what's going to happen, except that there's always more to things than meets the eye.

so intense.
i cant believe its only episode 16... im assuming that the E card arc wont span the next 10 episodes....

my prediction is that kaiji gets through the Ecard arc with his ear, but doesnt get the money.... perhaps to buy back mm for his ear? and then there will be a final showdown vs the big boss or something....

psychological thriller =D

Wow, this was another amazing episode and the scene where Kaiji stoop up and told off Tonegawa and the old man was really great. Of course, Tonegawa and the old man were not phased by it.

This arc is going to be even more tense than the last one. This show is amazing.

Of course you'd choose an ear, losing one ear is not so bad.
Sometimes ruptured ear drums can be healed too, though this tool looks pretty nasty.

I've had my eardrum ruptured at least 3 times and it heals back up no problem. Getting a drill to the eardrum wouldn't be a rupture though, no way to heal from something like that.

I think the reason I find this show so intense is that it feels so realistic. Sure, a planet about to get blown up by some giant monster/mecha SHOULD be more tense than some guy who is going to lose an ear, but that situation is so off the wall that you can't really relate to it.

Kaiji is a regular guy who got caught up in a crazy situation and that crazy situation isn't something like piloting a mech or something, it's a situation of desperately trying to get out of debt.

This show is wonderful.

And Tonegawa's smiling like a Chersire cat. Definitely a trick up his sleeve.

Kaiji early winnings should act as a safety net. If he thinks he's too close to losing an ear, he can bet cash instead. He can double his winnings that way, if he plays it smart.

Sadly, he'll probably get owned in the next episode. E Card is about psychology, and Tonegawa's got a huge advantage there.

I don't think Kaiji stands much of a chance. He isn't in control of his emotions like Tonegawa is so he is going to be nervous when he plays an emperor card. The emperor card is his only chance to lose and I feel that Kaiji will show that on his face.

If Kaiji played just citizens there is no shot he could lose and he would actually win when Tonegawa plays the slave. However, he also wouldn't make much money that way as there would be a lot of ties.

to win 20 million he has to win as a slave betting 8-10mm...there is no way he can win with just emperor...so i cant wait til that moment happens

Kaiji's got 2 million on the table. If he bets in cash, he can double that in a single round. And double it again. He could be done at six rounds for 32 million if he plays his cards right.

He won't, but speaking hypothetically.

The only way to win the Big Bucks are the Slave rounds. Imho he should save his mm in the Emperor Rounds and go hard on the Slave ones.

I thought that this was a really insightful observation. It is very true that it's so much more intense than these other shows where supposedly there is more at stake.

One thing I hope for in this arc is that Kaiji eventually gets in a groove and starts beating Tonegawa consistently. In the same way that Tonegawa's supposedly "hearing the waves" of Kaiji's heart, I want Kaiji to see through him--not win in a haphazard, or one-shot deal that doesn't conclusively show that he got the upper hand.

He could try to fake an emotion on his face while playing a citizen? Guess Tonegawa will see through it with ease^^

Finally we get some Akagi-style mind games. This is exactly what I was expecting when I heard that Kaiji is being made.

That eye drill sent shivers down to my spine. I'm glad Kaiji choose his ear (it was also the most logical choice).
I bet Kaiji will lose the next game, now that Tonegawa can feel the waves of Kaiji's heart (that part was so wierd) xD

I bet Kaiji will win with only a few mm left, it's just too typical. But it's interesting but he will probably start losing now. It's just my guess though. But since 5 minutes is the max. time of thinking, this game can't last long.

Tonegawas biggest advantage is that he knows which card Kaiji puts into play because they keep the cards in order and don't shuffle them.
