And now you have PROOF - Sasuke continues to be an outcast because he can't deal with his inner emotional problems, he can't STOP BEING LONELY. He has to spend a lot of time out of the village because of whatever that is that he must do, and he feels all the emotions all of us would have felt in this situation if we had to leave our family - sadness, grief, loneliness and guilt towards his wife and daughter. But Sasuke doesn't KNOW HOW to deal with those emotions, so he chooses to stay away from the problem completely - a perfectly normal reaction for a person like him with so many inner issues. And what does Sakura do? Nothing. It's not that she doesn't want to, but that she just can't - she doesn't know WHAT to do. Obviously, she tried to do something, but Sasuke still won't come home even once a year - he continues to produce reasons for him to not come, or to not phone. And it's simply because Sasuke and Sakura don't match. Like, at all. She wants to help, but she just doesn't know what else to do - nothing she tries ever work.
And all of that I predicted from the beginning. I don't have anything against Sasuke or Sakura. On the contrary, I was very sorry for them, because I knew that them getting married will just be an unhappy marriage, where the husband is always withdrawn and distant and the wife feels inadequate and developing more character issues by every year, which reduce her chances of influencing her husband, which in turn will make the husband even more withdrawn. And the children will have to suffer through it all. And - TA-DA! - we have "living" proof of it now.
Think about it from the writer of the plot view - even Kishi's imagination failed him when he tried to produce SasuSaku domestic dynamic of being husband and wife. So he removed Sasuke and had him go on a 10-year-long mission. ×facepalm×

It's implied he hasn't seen his daughter since she was a baby or at least very young. I don't know about you, but my face looks very different when I compare my baby photos to photos of me when I was 11. It's not very hard to imagine that he wouldn't recognize her under the circumstances.

When Sasuke ain't around Naruto be balls deep in Sakura, I bet Boruto caught Naruto in action once which would explain Boruto being all pissy. Sarada dealing with a deadbeat dad and Boruto dealing with a cheating father, the struggle for this generation of ninjas is real.
