Ooh~! Mendoza and Leon's Final Boss designs looks really badass!! I feel like this show is way underrated. The final battle choreography was good, and they managed to use Leon's mysterious mother to further his character development. I'm really curious as to how they are going to approach the second season, and I am almost confident in saying that Mendoza will return with a vengeance. I feel like German's little love-child will replace him as Zoro in the second season, which may mean we could be expecting a bit of a time-skip. Let's hope it all works out!

The ending was great. I want a figure of the Combined Armor. Seriously awesome.

I am saddened that Herman/German died though . T^T

at least he left a legacy behind..two actually haha.

Anyone know when is the OST out? Garo's ost is the best I heard this entire season.

It is already out.

Review: I liked this show a lot. Wished that German could have lived and waiting for second season. Like some others said the finale is missing something. I don't know either. maybe Lara being alive or something idk

Wow. What a solid ending. Garo definitely landed its ending.

Despite a few mediocre episodes and some that even felt filler-ish, Garo was a very strong show. The highs were ridiculously high, like the Lara episode(still kills me on the inside), and the fights were always top-notch with some impressive choreography. I don't know what the 2nd season's going to be about, but I'm excited that we're getting one. Easily my favorite Mappa show besides Kids on the Slope.

Saaame. Didn't expect to end up liking it so much. Still took me almost near the end of the first cour to really get into it though (Bernardo vs. German ;_;). But after that, I was pretty excited to watch this every week. Will always remember Leon vs. Alfonso, that was some amazing cinematography and animation. Really sad that German died, tearing up when he was saying goodbye, and also kind of chuckling because German...is German. They tied up the ending pretty well, though I have to laugh a little at the cheesiness. Also Mendoza in his immortal form reminded me a little of Meruem, just a little. And lol when Zaruba asked Ema in Leon's stead. Speaking of which, I totally thought she would be dead after receiving such a stab to the middle of her body...well not that I'm complaining, I like her. Then again, seems like she won't be playing an important role in the next season? Waiting for announcement of when the second season will air :>

After Mendoza absorbed the giant Horror, he became hilarious. The way he moved and talked was so fruity. lol Seeing Leon get smacked as he raised his sword was hilarious too, like slapstick stuff.

The action itself though was fucking amazing. The fluidity, colors and cinematography were all awesome. That's sort of where my praise ends though.

First off... the asspull power up of fusing with the Zoro armor, allowing him to go 1-on-1 with Mendoza. I'll admit that it didn't bother me too much because the action that came out of it was awesome but...

Then the actual climax happened... Leon grabs Mendoza, brings him down to Makai, willing to sacrifice himself for the good of mankind! And.... his mother... summons flames... and traps Mendoza in them... allowing Leon to escape... *facepalm*

Having Leon sacrifice himself to stop Mendoza not only would have made for a more tragic and better ending but also would have fit his character arc very well. He learned what it means to fight to protect people, he learned about sacrifice and responsibility of using the Garo armor. It would make sense that it would build up to him giving his life to save humanity.

Now, I am not against him surviving and beating Mendoza... but the way they did it was so stupid... They pulled the whole, "His mom protected him with flames" thing right out of their asses...

Meh, Overall 6/10. I liked the series but it had the occasional boring or filler episode, the action was hit or miss and the dialogue and characters were rather cliche. The plot was somewhat predictable too and I am still not sure what the setting is supposed to be. It's an okay series though.

I agree that they pulled a bit too much out of their asses, but I disagree that Leon should have died. It would contradict the entire point regarding the legacy Herman and Anna left him.

Asspulls aside, the action was really amazing. They really did use their best cards on the finale. There was also a good dose of emotional moments.
Herman, manly tears and the utmost respect for you. His farewell with Leon was written brilliantly. Too bad this didn´t apply to everything.
The show had great character development as well.
ONE THING I REALLY APPRECIATED: The call back to Lara. Ever since the "mourning chapter", Lara had been forgotten and I thought it was poorly done, but this way, thats fixed.

Now, I cant help but wonder if the show hadnt wasted time on boring fillerish episodes
7/10 overall. Solid in all aspects.

Certainly some disadvantages to immortality. Good fight Mendoza. This finale just screamed Garo-worthy, that knight fusion was incredible. Leon making peace and bidding farewell to his mother was incredible, ironic how the flames that killed her became the ones that protected Leon and saved the world. It's still hard to believe that there's another season after this. It makes me wonder if there will be a huge time skip with Alfonso and Leon becoming German figures of sorts.

As a whole this was a very well built anime original. MAPPA has fantastic visuals and knows how to utilize CGI. Episode 18's duel between Alfonso and Leon is still fresh in my mind and demonstrates that they can deliver the best of both worlds. There were times when it did slow down and drag with the various horror side stories, but the main story itself was a true epic. It was filled one engaging turn of events after the other as well as extremely likable characters that each brought their own chips to the table. I had a feeling about this back in September and I'm sure glad I picked it up on the whim that it'd be underrated.

Mendoza consumed that Horror and became immortal!
He is to OP with that dimensional punches and regenerating powers!
Leon using Garo and Zoro at the same time and becoming a beast to!
Leon trying to trap Mendoza in Makai world with him self but his mother saves him with her flames.
Touching moment for Leon with his mother and father!
Alfonso having a crush on a cute hot girl! The ship is sailing!
Leon still remembering about Lara and parting with Ema was sad.
Leon is getting a stepbrother/sister probably the next inheritor of Zoro!
Good story and nice way to ending things!
Animation was great!
Waiting 4 next season!
8/10!

The final fight was a tad bit silly, Mendoza keep saying "it's useless" everytime his head chops off reminded me of a current rpg with charecters recite the three lines of stock recordings. Kinda annoying. Mendoza is channeling some dragonball z villians with his weird poses. Not his best form

I could have cried but my lack of a soul stopped me. Everything is now happy for now in this horrifying world of garo, ending was great too.

A sequel tho? how?

Decently entertaining, dark series. Had some episodes where I wanted to quit, but I'm glad that I watched it all.

I love how in the last episode there was less of a budget for animation, but it's so barely noticable that I imagine that only people like me notice it.
Don't listen to people when they tell you that the anime that you want to see doesn't exist, and to quit asking, and quit searching. I found my dream anime, and yours could be out there too. Speaking of which, watch Record Of Grancrest War, you're missing out.

Episode that closes optimally the TV series, knowing that it could not be different from what I imagined. In fact, assuming a second season, the final nature of things had to be left open.
Narratively the tale is high thanks to the twist at the end of the fight, really unexpected and remarkable for its original date to the story.
Drawings and animations are also very good, overall this TV series is to consider if you are looking for something interesting as history, without expecting spectacular in the narrative. Pleasant and well crafted CG, catchy soundtrack, very beautiful the second ending is not so new opening; not up to the previous year.
My vote is 8/10 !

But I agree. something is missing. And i think whats missing is a tie in to the movie or season 2. it ends like there is no sequel.

That God-Mode Mendoza is weak!
The Mother of Leon is the one who helped bring down Mendoza to eternal flames.
Alfonso blushed to the daughters of aristocrats.
Ema will go back to her home place to seek rest.
Herman was cool he even left offspring to Ximena and also left Jiruba until the birth of the one who will inherit Zoro.
The preview was Garo Live Action! whew~! Garo Gold Storm Sho.

Well, most of the later half of this show was disappointing for various reasons. While the battles were mostly good, I found myself being bored, and the impression did not lift till the end. Convulsed story telling, inconsistent pacing and loss of balance both in screentime distribution and in the lightness/overdone seriousness balance, as well as Leon turning into a complete bore after he got Garo back is what contribute to the impression the most, I guess.

Leon mostly standing around and letting Mendoza resurrect Anima was when I lost all hope in the show. The last ep was really pretty ridiculous, sadly.

7/10, and I feel I should've been harsher. Not sure if I'm gonna bother with season 2.

Overall I enjoy this, but a couple things bothered me.

- The way mendoza was beaten was a bit silly although after saying that he was awakening the monster with the souls of makai knights and alchemists the idea that those were what took down mendoza instantly popped into my head. I was close but it didn't play out the way I thought it would have. Had the knights and achemists souls rebelled against him I would have believe it a bit more.

- Death flags were a bit too obvious, I knew that herman and lara (with her family) were going to die all by things they were saying and doing prior to their deaths. They need to make these scenes a bit more surprising in S2.

- I thought Octavia was a bit too underdeveloped and sorted just thrown in last minute. She could have been better characterized using those filler episodes and her hatred for the makai knights seemed very unwarranted. It's also pretty odd that she treats mendoza as a god figure considering her past (having her prayers unanswered would more likely turn someone else away from god figures), but I suppose at the same time that could have gone either way.

-Speaking of filler, why couldn't they use it for more characterization and world building? The fillers themselves for the most part served no purpose at all and didn't advance the plot or characters in any way.

- Garm is very underdeveloped as well. Actually the watch tower (or dogs, w/e it is) as a whole isn't expanded on much.

That's mostly what I didn't like, I enjoyed everything else really. The heaven and hell parallel with the watch tower and makai was interesting. Even mendoza's punishment seemed like something out of Christian scripture (being burned for all eternity in "hell" aka makai). The horrors themselves represent sin and many of them approach or rather, possess people when they are at their lowest and easily swayed. Leon's journey at redemption was always well done, being able to overcome his feeling of vengeance when he lost the ones closest to him a second time was portrayed in a realistic manner. He learned that protecting what he had was better than avenging what he lost, unfortunately it had to be a very hard lesson.

Pretty good show.

If anything at all, I think Lara should stay alive. Killing a good character like her just to move the plot one inch forward make it feels like a wast to me. Keeping her character alive would have been better for the show in a long run.

It is all just a matter of writing. Having the whole family that saved him died except Lara should be enough to change the way he was currently thinking. In other word, he would realized he is useless and he won't be able to protect Lara in the future if something were to happen. But it could be just a traditional of Garo series where the main guy is always alone in the end. I don't know because this is my first Garo show I ever watch.

thats not what im saying though, he needs to fight for the good of humanity not a singular person, her death is what made him realize that theres thousands of people like lara who might not see another day due to the dangers of a horror preying on the weak and that he needs the power and willingness of self sacrifice to go protect as many as he can. Had lara been the only survivor he'd of been consumed by thoughts of protecting only her and likely would of never gotten the garo back from alfonso who was fighting for humanity. Leon would of valued lara more than the rest which would put him more on the steps to being a decent into a horror more so than a protagonist.

I agree with most of what Keten said earlier in the thread.
Solid 7/10 for me, I can't see myself giving it more, mostly because it just lacked anything special.
It's your typical action series with action series tropes so that's about all one can expect. However I give it the benefit of having almost no annoying characters that would've ruined it for me.

High hopes for the second season, I hope they will travel around the world more so get to see more of that.

I hope MAPPA gets to make more anime , Garo and SnB Genesis are great .

Goddamn it, German ! He was the reason why I liked Garo in the 1st place :(

I dont know if anyone has said it already but when mendoza and the she demon were fusing I was led to believe that he would be the one who would get absorbed into the she demon but since it was the other way around it made it seem so ideal a situation where all he had to do was hug mendoza into the seal and close it behind him. Now if it we're to be what I was led up to believe Leon would not have had such a great time trying to stuff that gint she demon into the seal I wonder how he would have handled a giant she demon immortal just a thought.

This was okay. I mean the plot was good but what's up with those character designs? The action is great but killing off Lara was so unnecessary just to motivate Leon to fight once again to protect and he even gets over her death in 2 days that he ends having a relationship with Ema. But apart from that it's a decent show. 7/10
