I'm a guy who rarely like shoujo, but when i watch this, I'M SHOCKED! i really really really like it!

I thought it would be more like FREE!, but after watching it, i felt it's more like something like, "Detroit Metal City", or "Cromartie High School" or "Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou", the perverted and crazy jokes, all those macho shout and omg that random hilarious funky ost, "ALL YOU NEED IS M.E.G.A.N.E."

The main character and his friends are actually manly, except that yandere first grader, but he didn't seems like your generic token shota either.

So, what do you think? Do you think girls will dig this show? In my opinion, surprisingly, it feels like an anime for boys with some gay jokes in it.

I'm not even sure what demographic it's for anymore. LOL It is more similar to the parody/crack shows you've mentioned indeed. XD I think girls can still like it, while boys can to.

I'm a girl and well... it definitely has different style than your average anime. They provided fanservice for girls and guys, so... I guess that it's simply aimed for both sexes. But yeah, I wouldn't really call it shojo.

Hmmm, I was thinking about passing on this one because unlike Free I thought it would be completely geared towards women and I like meganekkos not megadanshis. But because of this thread I might actually start it, thanks.

This show apparently based off some otome drama CDs, so I guess that's where the shoujo tag came from.

It does have the beginnings of a lot of those character interactions and interpersonal relationships that appeal to girls a lot (same reason why sports anime are so popular with females, they depend heavily on those sorts of relationships to drive the story) but this is not sparkles and flowers and shit haha. Threads like this make me remember how narrow the perceived definition of shoujo has become though...

It was really funny, I think everyone should give this a shot at least.

Ask Studio Deen as the announcement thread for this show stated that they make the Drama CDs too.

Doesn't seem to be any girl in the drama cd's at least based on the screen shots in the thread.

Maybe the definition of otome is shifting somewhat beyond just dating sims.

(I have actually read before that "otome" as a phrase is starting to morph into a female version of otaku though idk if that's fact or rumor)

I'm not sure either haha i tried searching #meganebu tag in tumblr, it's overflowing with girls whining about how disappointed they are that this is not "FREE! with megane", and instead they got this

Damn, is that mean that this show won't sell

As I understand it, otome games are games aimed at girls. They don't necessarily have to be dating sims.

I've been disliking some shoujo lately, and was a bit disappointed with Free! too. But this anime, is just FUCK YEAH! Basically what people really do. I remember carting like that with my friend as well (we are both meganes too! xD)
Alone on a Friday night? Remember that DIO did nothing wrong!

I agree. It is a show for everyone (though not everyone will like and/or enjoy it)

Up to ep 3 or 4 I think it looked more like harem... boy to boy harem==. Looks like GJ-Bu without the sisters part and turn the main girls into guys and add megane and POOF! There you go... (mostly... lol)

I wouldn't call it shoujo, no. I would call it's genre megane bishounen.

Guys don't like it because it's 'gay' and no girls. Girls don't like it because it's not another anime with fanservice like Free!(I love Free! btw) and actually has guys who like...le gasp, WOMEN!

Most people will turn away from this anime because of it's low score but speaking of low score, even the most boring 4-koma moe girls show gets a score above 6 and this gets a 5.8? Really?

So is this like a bromance anime?

Is there actual content? Or do they just go around spewing stupid perverted crap like this thread implies.

Episodic content anyway.
Some episodes are divided into two ~12 min. skits or so.
I don't know if you would count that as content but I do.

And actually no, they don't go around spewing perverted crap.
The OP just got that impression from what they were doing in the first episode but it has turned out quite differently if I do say so myself.

Yes, bromance for sure. Even some borderline homo because of Mitsuki.

The only perverted part comes from episode 1 (and gets mentioned later) which are the X-ray glasses but I don't find that to be the main focus of the show. It's mostly glasses and goofy jokes thrown together with some homo moments that could be funny if that's your thing. Not necessarily funny for everyone (hence the score of 5.8), but worth a try for sure. I like the comedy.

Its not adapted from a manga, so its not a shoujo.

LOLWUT is right. When I saw the first 5 minutes I was like... this is the opening to some ecchi shit isn't it? Trying to violate women's boundaries (and not get caught) is shit you see in hentai.

Its not adapted from a manga, so its not a shoujo.

You don't know what "manga" means do you. It means comics. it doesn't mean "for boy/men" that's shounen/seinen.

Only anime adapted from manga can be shoujo/josei/shounen/seinen.

Its you who doesn't know how it works.

It's not really a bromance anime... I think
I just don't understand a boy clinging to other boy, they said it homo
But it's not like that when girls like that

I really don't understand stupidness of some people especially those who watch anime and haven't learned anything.. O.o

if boy is frieendly to another boy, it's called clinging and bl, BUT when the girl is almost like kissing another girl it's alread ''cute'' or ''such friendship''.

really shame on you ! *o* do you even had a friend? XD I can't you guys are so hilarious...

btw bck to topic, this is shoujo cause they wanted to see girls without the clothes. since main protagonists are guys but making glasses to see girls without clothes is main point, so because of that it's also shojo in genre.
