I can't bring myself to like Satoru, he is like those annoying shonen protagonists.

Well, confusing episode, as usual.

what was confusing about it ?
Oh you mean the beginning , how did Saki restore his powers ?
Well you see cantus is connected to our subconsciousness (more about that on ep 10)
and everybody has their mantra (mantra is just a word that as long as it(that word) you can use your powers)
But the truth is the monk didnt shout down their powers he just used hypnoses to make them forget their mantra (again mantra is just a tool to use hypnoses remember ep 1 when that old guy prevented saki from controlling fire and then gave her mantra ) and if kids cant remember their mantra then they are gonna believe that they cant use their powers and since cantus is connected to our subconsciousness they really cant.
But Saki remembered Satorus mantra (which she tricked him into finding out how it goes) and made Satoru believe that she broke the seal .

For the first half of this episode it seemed like the Robbing [?] Fly Colony would backstab Saki and Satoru.

Everything made them seem suspicious.

The whole scheme was confusing, not only what was showed in this specific episode. I already finished the show and now I understand it better, but thanks for trying to clarify for me. And sorry for the delayed reply.

Good Episode, though I'm a little worried for/about Satoru. He seems pretty aggro, wanting to kill the whole Colony etc.
Starting to see how/why PK Users and the General public destroyed themselves and eachother.
On the other Hand it's somewhat just a normal response (for a normal human) to being locked up and powerless , when he gets his freedom back and becomes more powerful than everyone and everything around them.
Saki seems to rise above that (though she has not yet her power back), on the other hand she also resisted when her DNA told her to mate to reduce stresslevels :p

I'm glad the normal animation is back.

I'm guessing that their Cantus being 'sealed away' is only kind of a hypnosis on them, a psychological manipulation. And Saki just tried to do the 'ritual' to get them back again.
I didn't actually think that they were this good at using Cantus. From what I've seen so far, I thought they were just beginners at it.

Don't like it? Drop it. No one is forcing you to continue watching it.

Anyway it was a good episode, at least Satoru got his powers back.

Bad action was bad.
Isayama Hajime should be awarded The Manga with The Highest Inconsistencies of Characters' Appearances.
He keeps performing multiple plastic surgeries on those Shingeki No Kyojin characters in a SINGLE chapter.
Yes, I've read up to the latest chapter of Shingeki No Kyojin manga.
Forced myself to read through the kidsketching chapters after the anime's ended. At least from now on, I only have to go through the hell once a month.
Patiently awaiting SNK TV/movie/OVA anime-sequel.

What's the deal. Before, they could barely lift a pile of leaves (When they rescued the first rat), and Saki could barely pull the Minochiro's, uhh, thingies. Now they can burn forests, send rocks flying, created stairs out of nothing... What exactly did I miss here?

I think that Saki is not as skilled in using the Cantus as Satoru. And using it as a brute force is much easier that using it in a more gentle way ^_^

And Satoru looks like he is going to collapse soon.

I haven't seen something this unique since Madoka. Wow, I'm really blown away by how much I'm enjoying this. New dynamic between Saki and Satoru is going a nice change from what I'd expect (aka Saki and Shun). Saki says that Satoru has changed but it can be argued that he's just using what he saw to plan his actions - the monk was killed while defending so he feels he should attack.

They might be in danger thanks to Saki's slip up. Let's see.

The OST continues to be absolutely amazing

A bit confused about how Saki just somehow restored Satoru's Cantus. I'm quite suspicious about the queerats who are travelling with them at the moment, too.

Still unsure about this series, each episode is enough to keep me watching, but never enough to really get me into it.

Interesting development of Satoru here though, getting a bit ruthless...

And where is the death feedback while Satoru slaughters tons of whatchamacallits?

aidoru said:

The classroom scene showed that Saki knew Satoru's Mantra, which was what the monk took from him in order to seal his cantus.

What excited me most out of this episode is a certain sound effect one of the queerats made - it was the same sound effect some of the monsters made in Forest 1 of Phantasy Star Online when they died... good times.

2. Satoru = boss. Redirecting those arrows and using floating trees

3. Ok seriously…. What does surviving a pointless rat war have anything to do with the main plot??????? it's like people going thru college with no end goal in mind... how da hell this series ranks top 100???

To be honest I thought the animation quality in this episode was WORSE than the previous.

Weird start. When did we get information that Saki could return his Force powers? Was that obvious or something? Bad. She could have asked the idiot of the century (yeah, talking about Satoru) to do the same for him. What's up with the "I must kill and go forward" attitude from Satoru? Seriously it got pretty annoying and felt so out of place compared to how they acted in the previous episodes.

the anime certainly does make some parts more difficult to understand, and i feel like this is occurring more and more lately. what really bothered me was in ep4 when the children remarked that the queerats looked human from far away (and thinking this is why the priest's death feedback kicked in) which threw a lot of people off, myself included. and now in this episode there's a random hallucination that seemingly came out of nowhere, but as symbv said does have a significant meaning in the novel for saki to restore satoru's mantra.

edit: so the hallucination was caused by the poison gas, but was that the same gas that they encountered before that was flammable?

This. I find some scenes showing out of the blue and needs an explanation to be understood.
Like the hallucination scene. What caused that?
As I've read the previous posts, the cause was the poison gas.
But I find it hard to grasp that idea. There wasn't any gas (which should be shown in any color like purple) flowing around to denote that there is one. Heck, even Satoru said they're already safe from the poison gas.
Also, that bestowing of mantra back to Satoru. It felt so abrupt.
I mean, why not narrate a little bit about that ability?

I really don't want to nitpick but it really bothers me.

Mmm, if I remember, the library thingy did said that some species did evolved way fasted that they should have. That would explain why there are so many Queerats variant.

Anyway, Satoru had some weird behavior. It look like people with telekinesis have tendancy to like violence... Those kids have failed the brainwashing. They know too much about things that they sould have never known. What will happen from that? Saki did said in the preview of one of the earlier episode that Maria will do something terrible in the future that will cost many life.
Satoru have such a big death flag on his head, but he can't die now, he look too important x)

It was a weird episode. It really felt like it was a war field battle, but with 2 kids and a bunch of weird creature. Reminded me a bit of that scene in Star Wars :P

I really enjoyed this episode. I think the way that Satoru was acting with his whole "must kill everything" was done on purpose. Didn't the library mention that people with PK needed to have like an attack inhibition? Maybe Satoru lost his? I don't know though, will have to keep watching to make sense of everything

Because she doesn't remember her mantra. The priest guy made them forget their own mantras when he took away their cantus. She could have (probably) used the same method on herself if Satoru was able to see her mantra during that classroom scene and remember it.

Hmm, I really enjoyed the first four episodes but this and 5 have kind of turned me a bit off. This just isn't interesting to me, though Satoru's display of powers was pretty impressive.

Also, about those people saying "why didn't Satoru give Saki her mantra back?". Wasn't she only able to see his and he didn't see hers? Wasn't that the point of the scene in the classroom? Also it was only these two that showed one another, which is why Saki couldn't give everyone else their mantra back. Furthermore, she only just remembered and thought up the idea. Though, I do think it's kind of weird it was that easy to return his mantra.

I absolutely love Saki's character... but screw Satoru. He's being so obnoxious doing the whole "I'm a badass" thing when he's obviously tiring out. It kind of points out to the viewer why these powers were so harshly criticized in the past. People get this superiority complex, I mean instead of fighting them you can see more and more how he's trying to instill fear in the rat-people. Plus, he's obviously with Saki and they should be thinking of finding the others, a plan for what to do next, not just going into war because of this power.

Well, I guess that's just his character... I wouldn't be dissatisfied if something bad happened to him though

It is so frustrating watching this idiot Satoru. Foolish pride, but that’s not the worst part. If he was alone, it’d be fine because he could experience the consequences of his own stupidity, but he is endangering Saki, who didn't want to fight in the first place. He gets his powers back and is trying to be superman but is clearly reaching his limit.

I still do not understand how Saki has the authority/ability to use Satoru's mantra thereby giving him his powers back. Maybe I missed something. I understand that she remembers it from their previous encounter, but how does she have the ability to restore it? Is it something anyone can as long as they know the mantra and chant?

The rats have certainly manipulated them into fighting their enemies for them. And Satoru is showing symptoms of fatigue after the violent use of his powers. I wonder if he'll survive this.

In response to the "how were they poisoned when the gas wasn't able to get in after the cave in?" questions, I think it's reasonable to assume that they inhaled some of the fumes as it was reaching them. If they gas was in the caved-in room with them, their conditions would've been a lot worse.

In the first episode, we see Saki cry as the priest takes her power away from her. Given what's established in that first episode about how having your power awaken is important in their society and how both Saki and her parents were very anxious over it, it has a lot of importance to her. So, to have it almost immediately taken away would be really emotional. The other kids probably had similar anxieties regarding their powers awakening. Seeing as Saki's hypnosis of Satoru was essentially her having him relive the ceremony where he got his mantra, he probably also re-experienced the emotions he had at the time.

The plot appears to be lacking direction at the moment, going from being about learning magic at high school to finding out everything is pretty fucked up to fighting a war with Queerats. I can see how this would work out in novel form with there being more content dedicated to relating to the characters, but since they've put more effort into making things seem freaky I don't see myself caring about the plight of the characters or the queerats. Why are they fighting for these Queerats instead of looking for help or trying to find their friends or going home?

Anyway, hopefully things improve; the show definitely has the potential for it.

Satoru doesn't seem to have any problems killing hundreds of sentient beings when he could have easily avoided them. Hopefully he starts developing a personality soon and his actions haunt him for the rest of the show. Or he goes insane. So far this anime has been all about things happening with zero to little consequences.
