THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

This episode would have been a billion times better if the Kingdom put a gun to the girl's father's head and told her and the rest of the crew that if they didnt get off the ship then their loved ones will die.

lol that would have been a very good tactic. but it would have failed miserably. they understand that even surrendering would not save them. additionally, threatening her father would further bolster their courage and desire to fight the kingdom. and prove that the kingdom is really one giant bully. and there is the added effect that it would be broadcast all over the galaxy.

Way to go Mamiko Noto, your confession and resolve are absolute. <3
For a moment, I thought her love would die though.

For just college students, these girls sure are doing some pretty big stuff for humanity.

It's pretty refreshing to have a show of college students rather than highschool filled angst, and I suppose the relatively level-headedness of the crew has been reflective of that.

I wonder just how large the ship is for it to take that many minutes to jet around it, but it certainly didn't feel like a 7-minute trip.

man, if i had a dollar for every anime "youth!" trope

this is a fairly realistic depiction of reasons why people fight in war for revenge, peer pressure, love of some sort; but don't see how a declaration of love would have held the ship together really

they all act very strange so i see this society being like StarTrek TNG everyone is serious shows slight of humanity so a threat of killing their family might not move them and also if the Kingdom threaten who knows if they can hide it from everyone that they threaten them bad look. Maybe in that world it is difficult to hide information like that.

Frankly, I've come to the conclusion that young anime characters count as a school age group one higher than whatever the show says they are. In anime, high-schoolers do things that I'd expect college students to do, and middle-schoolers do things I'd expect high-schoolers to do.

Well, it was legitimately and older person making the point about youth. And it makes sense in context -- someone who's older and more experienced might also be more inhibited about taking risks.

The love thing...well, I guess they didn't put much screen time into that guy deciding to stay on board. But I can see Sanri's declaration being something of a pep talk for more romantic ideals (in two senses of the word "romantic"), and also adding to a sense of camaraderie (or peer pressure, phrased differently) amongst the crew. Meanwhile, negotiations breaking down with the Kingdom means that they're now less likely to be let off the hook by surrendering (assuming the Kingdom was actually offering that in good faith in the first place).
Avatar character is Gabriel from Gabriel DropOut.
