People still seem to think he's writing all of this just because his name is linked to it. It's a collaboration, I forgot the other guys name but Gen has only wrote the first and last episode. The rest he has just had an influence on.

To be honest I wasn't really liking Amy that much before this episode, but DAYUM dat dancing! Gonna be re watching that scene a couple of times. The other girls were hot aswell.

I noticed a lot of close ups at the restaurant scene, sucks because I really wanted to see the front of bellows when she was bent over that table.

Ledo seems more happy now and there was some romantic development maybe?

Huh...two fanservice heavy episodes in a row.

Although, I will admit...that was some very impressive belly dancing. I wouldn't mind the fanservice so much, but I am somewhat questioning the "beach" episode followed by a "festival" episode where there was very little activity besides belly dancing and food. Amy did mention that they spend currency on "fun"...well...what's fun in this society? They should've done a better job of visually explaining it since this society is far different than normal society now.

While I do "like" this show, it's flaws are starting to get on my nerves. I do think it will improve now that we're entering the latter half, but I disagree with how the 2/4 of this series was handled.

I question those girls choice of clothing lol, but it's fanservice so what are you going to do. I wonder if this will turn into a warzone. I like action as much as the next guy but I'd hate to see their people die and Ledo had just gotten a job.

Great episode, now sadly we have to wait a week for the next episode.

I'll be glad if last episode will stand on the same level as first one. It got so much atmosphere. But if the episodes in between will continue to drag like this, then this whole show will get "meh" prize from me.

What harem? LedoxAmy was always the only pairing of this show.
Seriously, a show nowadays can't have more than one girl without people complaining it is a harem >_<

This is a freakin' Slice of Life Anime about a guy from distant future ending in more human society which, while at it, explored the positive sides of the humanity!! That this would be SF Slice of Life at least was known from synopses long before the show even started!
No, having a freakin' robot doesn't mean you are getting a generic mecha Anime! It is there for setting's sake, not to satisfy Mecha fans!

Seriously, the whole industry should just stop trying to be original. Watchers will just try to force the series into a genre they want.

TAKE THAT, FANSERVICE HATERS! :D Hahahahaha

I just love this show.

So, the Hideauze resemble cephalopods. Could they have originated from Earth? I'm wondering if the squid at the end was a genuine Hideauze or it just matches the characteristics of one.

Just a great ep! Seem like next ep will be a bit action!

Everytime he smiles...I smile too xP

Anyways, I didn't mind the fanservice much.
LedoxAmy moment for the shippers.

I can understand some people who didn't know much about this being baited by the first half of the first episode. Personally I really didn't like that bit. I'm a big fan of Gen's work, but the first half of the first episode felt so rushed and packed with pointless info that it was barely comprehensible. It felt like the cliche alien species vs humanity space battle setting and I really wasn't digging it.

A lot of subtle character development with Ledo has been going on in the last 5 episodes and personally I have really enjoyed it, I knew action wasn't going to be the main focus from the start though. I can understand the hate because of the amount of fanservice too, especially in the last episode. This episode though I thought the fanservice was rather well done, especially the solo dance scene that actually served some purpose in initiating some real romance between Ledo and Amy finally.

tl:dr The people angry/disappointed just got baited into thinking this was an action show and Gen wrote it all.

I've been wondering since the last episode, why haven't Ledo's hormones activated until now? Why doesn't his body react at all? I mean even though now he's more 'humanized' according to this civilization, he hasn't exactly seem affected at all by all the female bodies throwing themselves at him until this episode.

Speaking of female bodies, I know a lot your probably enjoyed the dance and all but I'm starting to feel a tad bit uncomfortable with all the sexualization of the girls =/ I just hope we start getting some serious action soon.

Love is in the Air. Nice private moment there. And the music playing at the restaurant will now force me to get this OST.

I would have worked for Bellow too. She's such a hottie.

Ledo will likely skip the calamari at the next dinner.

Two episodes of fanservice in a row? Whatever makes the directors happy I guess...At leas the romance is developing nicely.

Just as I thought Ledo is comfortably settling into a peaceful life, a Hideous shows up. Well, one of them shouldn't be a problem, but I doubt that humans on Earth now can even manage a significant warfare against Hideous. Maybe we'll find out more about this alien race or something.

The alien showed up at the end. It's a twist I expected so nothing new here. But oh well we have some plot development at the very least and from what I can tell, Ledo has finally found a purpose and what he wants to do.

Rather than that I don't mind the fanservice in here, well the dance was great and I like it, Amy looks so gorgeous back then. Those light veils look like aurora, so beautiful.

For those who was looking forward to something dark or insane twist and "Gen", well as someone said, this show is a collaboration, it means Gen only has a certain influence on the show. But this WILL BE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT with his past project. Hell he only wrote for the first and last episode.

And stop complaining about fanservice, if you can't stand it, well dropping the show is an option and NO ONE FKING GODDAM CARES

Gargantia can be quite exciting although very simple, it could only be the work Urobucher! The anime gets to be a life lesson, the interaction between the characters is what is best invested, Ledo increasingly learning true values of freedom, at times I get some pen protagonist, imagine a whole army as living it. The only problem is Gargantia not solve some mysteries, like what happened to 'this world' and other issues over the past Ledo and where he lived. But I bet it will happen soon to end. Also missing is a bit of action and some deaths to be 100% pro Urobucher.

Why comment on a forum if you are taking this stance? You realize by the same token no one cares what you have to say either, so what's the point? People are simply expressing their distaste for such fanservice heavy episodes. These things belong specials on the blu-rays, not during the main run.

This largely sums up my thoughts about it too, as I've elaborated in my former post. The fanservice was there too now, for sure - in a way even more prominent than last episode. Yet, I thought it less annoying, simply by the fact, as you also pointed out, that it served a purpose and was put in a certain context - which wasn't just merely to cater to the fans (which is mainly meant as a selling point and only offers a meta-context). This makes a lot of difference in my book. This time, it clearly was about a first experience of the 'feelings of romance/sexual feelings of Ledo'.

That said, about your 'but fans were expecting the wrong kind of anime'...well, maybe some did, but it's too simple too brush aside everything like that, me thinks. While it clearly wasn't meant to be a typical mecha-anime, it also was clearly not meant to be a typical slice-of-life anime (nor a typical space-opera anime, as you indicate the first episodes portrayed). Rather, I think the concept was an intriguing mix of all of those. But, you know, generic slice-of-life is as bad as generic mecha, so it's not as much about what one expects the genre to be, as rather how well it delivers the different elements of different genres.

Too much fanservice, too much harem-tropes, too much shoujo-esque slice-of-life would break the anime as much as too much typical mecha or space opera, imho. So I think you're not correct enough in your assessment that 'people might get it wrong' when they think it's a classical mecha. Yes, but people get it wrong if they think it's a classical shoujo-style slice-of-life too. (and certainly if they think it's a classical harem, ecchi or typical slapstick - even though those elements were potentially touched upon too.)

As long as all those elements are done well, I have no trouble with it; if the slice-of-life has a focus on the cultural-difference aspect (as it has) and stays relevant and realistic/non-contradictory (as it mostly has) in story and characterisation and 'world-building', and yes, if it has some suspense and action, be it mecha or space-opera, etc. it's going strong in my book. I just hope it won't fall into the classical tropes and styles too much of any of those genres, but remains refreshingly new and original, even if only in the handling it does of mixing the elements up. The rather blatant and purpose-less (in-story) fanservice and tranny-slapstick of the former episode fitted pretty ill with this concept, but the fanservice now I can live with since it served a purpose, and there was no joke/gag-scene now. And they put some suspense back in the episode at the end.

So, all in all, I'm more positive about this one than last one, even though it also has fanservice in it. One shouldn't complain solely about fanservice as some do though, but rather how it is presented (contextual, I mean).

I didn't like the first part of first episode as well. Atmosphere of second part of this episode, and second one with him attacking pirates bought me. I got baited by this whole utopia like swimming city, kinda like in Waterworld with K. Costner, and this how they respect life and work. And then it turned into mediocre slice of live.

No offence to people who like it, i like slice of live too but even so I would like to see something more ambitious from it. Especially when it had potential at the beginning to be something more than next cliche story of growing up but now taking place in swimming city.

It's 12 + 3 OVA which I highly doubt OVA's will be continuation of storyline.

I think the slice of life part is anything but generic atm though. Compared to the standard slice of life formula this has been pretty refreshing and subtle. The fact they have a strong and likable male MC instead of the socially inept otaku most SoL go for make it even more intriguing for me. I admit the last 2 episodes have been fanservice heavy, but from a man renowned more for writing hentai I'm really not sure what people expected, and a lot of character development and now plot development have been going on too.

I was never expecting action, I was enjoying the show until the last two episodes. We were learning about the world along with Ledo and it was pretty interesting to see where all of it would tie back into Ledo returning to space (if he does). However these last two episodes of nothing but fanservice came and broke everything up, and it's not to say the fanservice is light, there's literally girls shaking their asses for 10+ mins.

Some of you guys might like that stuff, but I have no idea how you all can't understand why others wouldn't. Not to mention the anime itself had minimal fanservice when it began, so to just drop such heavy fanservice out of the blue is even more surprising. It's not to say people knew about the fanservice upfront and still kept watching.. this stuff just started.

Its written by a famous eroge writer and the artist is a famous hentai artist. Why are you surprised?

Some people don't follow by who each anime is made.

Because people don't look at the directors past works(?) Like we're supposed to know if they're a lol-Hentai writer.

Personally I can't take the 3 little girls dancing seriously and I could have done without some of those closeups.
But I did like seeing the effects they had on Ledo and the fact that he even felt the need to ask Amy for another dance.

I love the quietness of some of the scenes and the music.
Also how much of a cohesive unit both Ledo and Chamber are together.
That last part they were hardly talking to each yet their guards are always up and ready to just spring into action at any given moment.

Just when you think he's relaxing too much and becoming vulnerable there's a complete shift in atmosphere.
That's what scares me though, I really don't want anything bad happening to these characters.

What the hell happened to this show.

Nothing happened.
You sound like you work for Production I.G and you knew the entire plot to this before it even aired and then they let you down.

If that's the case then plz do tell us more.

He said it, because it wasn't done as heavily in the first episodes. In this episode, every time a girl appear, we have to see her hips and breast before she starts talking.
It's as if they're suddlendy using fanservice and lame humor to distract us from the lack of content of the latest episodes.

Also the fanservice is out of place

Jizzy as you would call yourself because youre a dick The most butthurt award goes to you And clearly you havent watched that many shows thats why you cant determine if a show is unique or not Or maybe you're just a child who likes common stuffs where hero saves the day and guys gets all the girls. Sad taste you have there kid you came up to me in the first place making you look more like a kid who got slapped without me even knowing it and start crying about it to me

Well, keep on hating then. I think it fits perfectly with what the show is about.. I would be mighty disappointed if they hired one of the most famous hentai artists out there and then didn't take advantage of her talents, personally.

Now I may have faulty vision but everyone's breasts seemed to get larger here.

Yeah we get it there's an ero artist working on this. Next.

It's not a hentai, so they didn't really take advantage of her talents, unfortunately.

I think, that Ledo is either "emotionally" behind others of his age, or simply a gay.

Either way, considering the reputation of the two main authors behind the series, we're going to get trolled in a way or another quite soon..
