I can't say Yui is completely blameless, but Hikki is on fault here and while i did felt as bad (if not worse ) for him, this is not something that ca be denied.

@bloodynightsky Just like Hikki,Yui also has her share of weakness, mostly a confidence problem. While she don't explicitly show her feelings often, she did a lot of flags (baked a hella love shaped cake for him - although with excuse, she asked his number while blushing, etc),but she isn't brave enough to give anything explicit. The thing is : it's normal to not explicitly show your feeling and just thrown a lot of vague flags instead. Too bad,it's simply become boomerang against someone like Hachiman. That's why she also always keep the accident to him, probably waiting until she has a good timing to be honest about it (and most likely her own feeling, too).

They're not suitable for romantic relationship for now, but relationship between Hikki and Yukinon needs even a bigger push since Yukinon probably is more problematic than Hikki. I can imagine a real life relationship between those two probability of couple, but they will need a lot of maturity before they could work. But...

Btw, I am getting a Minorin vibe in Yui,and that's a good thing for me and a bad thing for her (if you have seen Minorin's love life in Toradora)

youmustbekidding...I hope not!

...Yukinon is the poster girl for the series (although not as blatant as Taiga), so naturally she has a bigger chance to be the main love interest of Hikki. Minorin and Yui also has similar personality in one thing :If they know that
. Sadly, that's how usually their personality work, unless someone give them a soft push.

Im LOVING this anime more and more with each passing episode!

I know this is the 5th episode but i just wanna say that I LOVE THE CHARACTER DESIGN! The girls look absolutely stunning, i just love both their design so much. They both look so beautiful trying on the different outfits this week <3

The ending was really well done, Hikky made a lot of good points such as a kind person is always kind to others as well.

As if that wasn't a good enough episode, the ED this week, the yui ballad version, is definitely the icing on the cake. It fits so well to the situation. The new animation along with the song fits so well together.

Had high expectation of this show since episode 1 and it seems i wasnt wrong. I know the anime hasnt ended yet but i wished it will keep getting higher up the position in MAL. I cant wait for the next episode!

Damnit 80000, I know that feel bro.
If he was real we would be on the same path to wizardry.

It's indeed probably easier with "cold" girls: if they appreciate you there won't be any doubt about it.
However it could take a long time for such a change of behavior to occur.

This is one of the best shows of this season.............even saying this is an understatement. Just mind blowing especially the last few minutes. People may have posted this already but i am gonna do it again.

I hate nice girls.
Just exchanging greeting with them will get them on your mind.
Start texting each other, and your heart will set a flutter.
If they call you, you're done for.
Enjoy staring at your logs and grinning like a fool.
However, I won't get fooled again.
That's what you call kindness.
If you're nice to me, you're also nice to others.
I always end up nearly forgetting that.
Reality is cruel, so I'm sure lies are a form of kindness.
Thus, I say kindness itself is also a lie.
I always ended up with these espectations.
And I always ended up with these misunderstandings.
And before I knew it, I stopped hoping.
A highly-trained loner is once bitten, twice shy.
As a veteran on this battlefield of life, I've gotten used to losing.
That's why I'll always hate nice girls.
-Hikigaya Hachiman

This is really deep and something many people can relate to. I can't get this out of my head after i have seen this episode. But when you look at the event, you can't really blame anyone. You can't blame Hachiman, the dialogue says it all. Neither can we blame Yui even though her approach was a bit wrong. We can't really blame the sister even though it was partly her fault (maybe). We don't know why they Yui didn't meet Hachiman in the hospital but rather his sister. Well at least it's not the end and they can make up later and i believe they will.

Other than that, Saki was fun to was. Lol at the Zone not working and Hachiman bursting out laughing after that. But seriously Hachiman has a lot of patience and energy. To continuously take all those verbal abuse and always retorting against them, he is really something. The maid outfits and dresses/tuxedo were fun to watch.

The only problems i have with series are the 4-eyed idiot and the trap. He is just annoying and gay!!! Hideyoshi (Baka to Test) was fun to watch and so was Yuuta (Cuticle Detective Inaba) but this one should just f**k off!!!

That monologue at the end was very sad, but also very true... I could completely relate to it. We have yet to see Hikky's true nature. The rest of the episode was average.
I hope they'll go with this deep atmosphere now. Without forgetting the comedy of course. I think this mix between jokes and dark thoughts really emphasizes Hikky's character.

Also, why didn't Yui invite him to the study session...?

End is good, I personally agree with him. Though I dislike seeing the tears of such a lovely girl.
BTW, since most here don't know Japanese, I've wrote the original words of Hikigaya, for those who like collecting speeches or something...

Wow thats a screwed up way of thinking. And I'm a odd person myself, so thats saying a bit.

At the halfway point now and all the progress he made, which was just barely any at all was swept away.

And while she is a nice girl she goes out of her way for him a bit. Thats not because of her being nice.

I find it funny how jaded and cynical the world is judging from these comments. And yet people can't figure 2+2=4.

The world is as we collectively allow it to be.

Still was a good ep, though I feel its locked into a bittersweet path for now with some romantic ending or a cliff hanger likely. Ah well, humor was nice, and seeing the girls dressed up was a major plus. Still I feel this show is lacking something.

Interesting direction!!!

New character Saki makes her debut and it explains why she took on a part-time job for certain reasons.
As usual I loved how Yukino simply keeps on insulting Hikigaya despite being near him. We also get to to see that Hikigaya learns from his sister that the dog he saved belonged to Yuigahama. I wonder how this will turn out between them two and how the others will react!? Also liked the outfits they were wearing at the Maid Cafe and the Bar. I can kind of understand from Hikigaya's view why he would think that but it was really direct the way he talked to Yuigahama.

Looking forward to the next episode!!

5/5

One of the few souls that at least I do not like texture is disappointing, with falls of style and sudden changes of direction meaningless! Everything well narrated with the right timing and reasoning righteous: If I look at as it began with a graphic rather pitiful, and nothing particular , and see it now, you can propio say that you can not judge a book by its cover! However, the designs are not yet a girlfriend, too bad because having a graphic design worthy, the anime would have been one of the best!

Yet another satisfying episode. Dem maid costumes! This show just keeps getting more interesting.
By the way, does anyone know how many episodes this will have? The MAL info page doesn't say anything about that.

You enjoyed the fan-service maid outfits? I was cringing so hard it hurt. It's a shame they went that way, I just hope they don't have a "Let's all go to the hot springs and/or swimming pool" episode. It's too typical and you don't feel anything once you've seen it once or twice because the whole concept is so overused it ceases to be anything more than a crude copy and paste of the same acts being done by different characters across different anime.

I swear if I hear "*Squeal*, protagonist'sname no ecchi" I will actually stop watching the anime and give it a 1/10. It's the scene where writing goes to die, whether it's done ironically or not.
Hachikuji: Araragi-san, you don't look even the least bit apologetic. You should at least say something after touching a girl's delicate chest!
Araragi: *Clueless look* Thanks?

Disagree. Even if I've seen something done many times, I'll still love it if it's executed well.

The " '*Squeal*, protagonist'sname no ecchi' " is funny as the series doesn't look to go that way. Even if it does, it's probably done in the usual insults that Hikky gets. But saying that you'll give a 1/10 because of that is frankly hilarious. You're just going to ignore the rest of the writing because of this sentence? Brilliant.

On the topic of the episode, another great episode! That last scene hit me so hard I re-watched it like 4 times. Looking forward to next week~

I don't understand why there's an argument. I passed college and now in real life times, I remember back in the day when i was in high school and video games were super unattractive things to girls. Thus I remember how i felt similar to him back in the day. What choice does he have? He doesn't know how she feels, but even then he gave her a chance when he said "If you're being nice because you're worried then don't bother." Her answer was so weak. If you have feelings for him tell him. Tell him that's not the reason, the reason is she likes him.
He complemented her being saying she's nice, but she did not have the confidence to tell him she likes him as a boyfriend. If you like an introverted guy like him, you should know that he is not the most expressive person in the world. He's not MR. PERFECT. but if you really like him accept him for who he is. He has problems, it doesn't take a a doctor to know this. He's not perfect end of story, and you know what? No one is. So if you really care for him then tell him. He is not looking for a relationship at the current time. He's just trying to get through life.
Obviously he had the confidence at one point to confess to "Nice Girls", but he got turn down. So he change the girls he is going to like. This is from his experience, and you know whats not a "Nice girl"? A honest one, tell him you like him. Don't tell him you like him as a friend. if you do that, the guy will think it's over. But you know what guys rather take honesty. Who wants a girl that's lying? Who wants a Guy that's a liar? Maybe chicks like that... I don't know i'm not a chick. But i been out with girls in college, as you grow you come to realize, you wish you did things differently, but life must go on. I thought the monologue was great because ton's of guys can relate to him. just because he's a smart dude doesn't mean he's a mind reader? Why not give him a bit of rope like every other guy?

I meant in a general sense, with this anime I'd continue watching anyway, there are some good moments in the writing and I always enjoy Hachiman's essays. I'd be disappointed if they do that scene because it's the stupidest scene in anime, it's on par with the "Oh no I'm falling... *Grope, grope* ... What could this be? It FEELS like a boob... perhaps a few more squeezes will help me recognise what it is."

Scenes like that are for writers who just can't be bored to continue being original and interesting. I wouldn't mind if it were just the odd anime that did it but every romcom anime does. It doesn't happen in anime like DTB or Cowboy Bebop and that's one of the reasons they're excellent anime, because they don't rely on scenes which are proven to cash in.

I'll keep watching it so long as I enjoy it, I'm not going to give it a 1/10, at worst I'll give it a 5/10 and stop watching it. I'm just sick of anime which rely on moe and don't try anything that's adventurous like creating something that's both different and cute. Oregairu is good because the protagonist isn't attractive, instead he's interesting, clever and likable despite the fact that he has no friends and that he's an oddball. It's also nice to not have a group of girls fawning over him just because he's nice and/or kind.
Hachikuji: Araragi-san, you don't look even the least bit apologetic. You should at least say something after touching a girl's delicate chest!

I don't understand all of this hate towards Hachiman, its like people were not even watching the episode and didn't see his ending monologue and doesn't know how he thinks. Why can't you put yourselves in the MC's position, all of his life people have been avoiding him, making fun of him, someone is finally nice to him. Then suddenly he finds out that she just happens to be the girl whos dog he saved.

It comes together in his mind that the only reason shes treating him nicely is because he saved her dog. He's hurt by this, just like his monologue implied shes nice to everyone and hes no one special to her, the only reason she bothers is because of the dog, she doesn't really care about him. Of course we as the audience can see that this isn't really the case and Yui really does seem to have feelings for Hachiman, but for a person who has been alone all of his life it doesn't come together in his mind like that. It's actually really sad and I can say that I've been there and know exactly how he feels.

I don't think anyone is at fault here, Yui is not perceptive enough to realize that she was hurting Hachiman and "leading him on" in his mind all this time. She has always been subtlety hinting that she likes Hachiman, with the cookies asking for his number and what not. Hachiman simply wanted her to stop putting on a act, just because he saved her dog and unintentionally hurting him (I'm pretty sure he doesn't blame her for giving him "false hope"). At the end of the day as the audience we can see that both characters actually like eachother, but because of the way they think they just don't realize it and that is the saddest thing about this anime so far :(

Very well said.

Hachiman isn't exactly used to dealing with people anyway, he isn't likely to pick up on normal social cues when they're directed towards him. He'd been in a similar situation before and you can hardly blame him for wanting to avoid being hurt again.
Hachikuji: Araragi-san, you don't look even the least bit apologetic. You should at least say something after touching a girl's delicate chest!
Araragi: *Clueless look* Thanks?

Oh god, that new version of the ending song with Yui's seiyuu...the chills man, the chills. One of the most beautiful EDs I've heard in a while.

Overall, I seem to grow fonder of this anime with each episode. I hope future episodes can bring out as much, if not more, emotion than there was in the last few minutes of E05. I could grow to really like this show.

As everyone has already said, nice one! The people here have a short memory, what he said at the end and the way he behaved, he did all of this from personal experience. Just go back in the first episode, belonging to the fact that he is a loner he already showed us the two times that he was betrayed by "kind girls". One told him to just be friends but in the end she hasn't spoken to him anymore, and the other girl just laughed at him...

Good way of putting it but the idiots who hate Hachiman wouldn't probably understand anyway. They are probably crying in their pillows for Yui getting told off like that without trying to understand Hachiman's monologue at the end. But nobody is really at fault in this situation and show is getting more interesting each episode.

Somehow, Hachiman's monologue made me pity him even more. His feeling of rejection is getting stronger every episode.
I wonder what would Yui felt about him right now. I really wish that she will not give up her hope to bringing him back.
I myself is a loner and being lonely is not something that you can "get used to" . If Hachiman is unwilling to make friend with other, then I hope some will make friend with him even by force. It was too pity to see him end up this way... ='(
