i said on a different post that this anime shouldnt even be considered a romance and everyone went haywire

when exactly does the romance start?

Technically speaking, it doesn't. There isn't even really a kissing scene which is kinda sad because you do feel a romantic tension toward Kujo and Victorique toward episode 22...however, no kissing or anything.

So you are correct.

Its apparent very early on. Yes theres no kissing scene, but theres no kissing scene in Clannad either.

it technically started at ep 3, and you really dont need kissing or any of that to portray romance, hell they go way farther than a kiss scene in this show thats for sure

It's definitely a romance, you felt the connection right out of the starting gates between the two of them. Just because there is no outward physical affection between the two main leads, that doesn't mean there isn't a romance element to it.

There is romance.
It is subtle.
Because it is subtle, it becomes hard to trace when it starts.
When you watch Gosick, you can feel a connection between the two that is more than just friendship.

Wha... really? For me it seemed like deep friendship then from God knows where it shifted into romance.

I agree it was obvious, the romance is there (more so than you think) Its the little things you pick up on. The way they act under certain questions/scenarios.

Even the questions they ask themselves! But yeah i would say its Romantic.

They outright said it was romantic a few times at the halfway point, as if the buttloads of hints prior were not enough especially ep 11

In episodes 8,

If that isn't enough of a hint, I don't know what is.

EDIT: There are hints all over the show but by that point, it was almost confirmed in my opinion.

If people need to see a kiss or sex to deduce romance, we are in a sad state of affairs. They couldn't stop thinking about one another. The only time Victorique showed emotion to the point of tears was when either Cordelia or Kujo were involved. Victorique evolved over the show, especially in the last few episodes, to the point where she no longer cared about herself and her pride. She had found something more important, as she says in the last episode. The others' existence allowed them to believe they would meet again, because they willed it more than their own lives. No kiss, but it was beautiful regardless. Being able to show love without being obvious, the show did this skillfully.

They loved each other.

P.S. Bones did an incredible job, it's almost hard for me to verbalize how awesome this show was.

Just finished Gosick and yeah it was really obvious that Kujo and Victorique loved each other.
There were so many hints from early episodes till the end.

I don't know about you guys but the romance wasn't all that subtle to me. Well, I suppose it was in the beginning but

When you think about what all of those things add up to, it's really quite beautiful the way they handled romance in this series. There wasn't a single overtly romantic scene in the entire show per se, and yet the love between them was still very palpable and touching.

I remember I didn't mind it when I watched. When I saw the series title and read the synopsis back then, I expected the anime to be homage to Gothic romances: not love affair but dark horror. I even wished the series had been darker.

I didn't detect romance. The other girl was better, Avril. And she lost.

This series really introduced the romance at their very first met MC introduction. Hell, look at their Opening always remembering how this series all about Victorika and Kojou relationship till the end. Look their ending, tho, especially with the second animation ending. The mistery, thriller, even hystorical story part only added and contribute for a plot sake, nothing can explain rather than that. So, why this, with all of those proves, can not seen as A Romance Story one? The questions is cleared and stay as a retorical.
