About my rating system:
I rate based on five criteria: plot (i.e. how innovative or engaging it is, how well it is executed throughout the show), storytelling (i.e. pacing, how well the story arcs come together, narrative elements), characters (their dynamic with each other, how they develop throughout the series), atmosphere (i.e. how well the show's setting, animation and music work together to create the mood of the show), and enjoyment. All ratings are subjective, and mine are no exception, especially because enjoyment is one of my main criteria. However, I do strive to be as objective as possible when rating an anime based on the other four criteria.
In terms of numbers, my ratings are as follows:
1 and 2 - Pretty damn terrible, and not in the "so bad, it's good" kind of way. Viewing this show is potentially hazardous to one's health.
3 - Has pretty much no redeeming qualities. Steer clear of this one.
4 - Below average. Could be entertaining for a short while if you switch your brain off, but on the whole, not recommended unless you are pretty desperate for something to watch.
5 - Mediocre. May appeal to some, but can usually be overlooked in favour of better and more enjoyable shows.
6 - Above average. A lot of people are quick to dismiss anything rated 6 and below as not worth watching, but in my view, a show rated 6 is not a bad show. It's just rather hit and miss. It's still entertaining, but it has some major flaws that detract from its quality as a whole. Still worth trying out if one is having trouble finding new shows to watch, some of these may just tick all the right boxes for you.
7 - A good show that I enjoyed, but had one or two flaws usually concerning the execution of the plot, the pacing, or perhaps character development.
8 - A great show. On top of being very enjoyable, this show stood out from the rest by possessing elements that were exceptionally good, e.g. a great atmosphere or an entertaining cast of characters, but was just missing that little something that could have pushed it above the threshold to amazing.
9 - A brilliant show. Excelled in two or more major components, i.e. plot, storytelling and/or character development. Still not quite ground-breaking enough to be called a true masterpiece, though.
10 - As close to perfect as it gets. A must-watch.
I strive to be a little bit strict with my ratings, that is why I currently have no 10s. A "10" on MAL denotes that a show is a masterpiece, and I truly believe I've yet to see an anime worthy of that label. Then again, I am fairly new to the world of anime, so I'm pretty optimistic about seeing what else this medium has to offer.

I don't say good deals in RS except in holidays, as for shipping you may consider "forwarding company" I think its cheap in the long term, but why you don't buy it locally anyway ?
Yes, I did heard its bigger but not sure about the paper quality since I don't have one, in any case, vizbig is way better than omnibus ones.
Amazon list price at 16.5USD/18.5AUD,
so its about 5.5USD per volume, kinda cheap consider its has few color pages and all reasons you said.
I did saw the spine trick, its cool.
Nah I don't think its that bulky, almost same size as hardcover books, still, if the cover is hardcover it would be so great, I hate paperback since it did not last that much.
As for me, I only buys new and search for deals so it would be around 4-6 for one volume at most, anyway, even at this price it still expensive.
You too, and thanks by the way.
How much ? I want to read it but its too expensive, 16 bucks for 3 volumes ?
Come on!! I saw a deal 20 bucks for V1 & V2, but, its too late now...
"Incidentally, I predict this thread will be locked before it makes page 4."
It got locked right after you posted that. I couldn't help but laugh.
About Canada, if you didnt hear the Toronto Area got a LOT of rain yesterday, and my whole basement was flooded =( This is the first time anything like this happened, but Canada is still awesome! And I've only heard good things about Australia as well!
while geas was a very intellectual in its context and concept it fell short to me while comparing it with deathnote on case of those beautiful mind games.
and lol its the same reason am not watching galactic heroes even though its been nearly 5 and half years since i have watched deathnote so i get your point ....
you can try ergo proxy , bloody monday , hyouka , city of dead sorcerer, akumetsu ...all of these doeas not exactly deal with the facts of deathnote but rather all of them got some aspects that is similar to deathnote ... wish you a goodluck with animes. also do you like shonen animes or mangas? like naruto , hunter x hunter, one piece, magi etc ...am a big fan of those
...what makes deathnote most attractive to me is the beautiful battle of wit between two masterminds and the style and tone of the twist and psychological aspects ...i have searched but never really got good mind battle anime or manga. most of them even becomes lame to the context and concept . though bloody monday and city of dead sorcerer were some good manga with mind chess between 2 brilliant minds and other psychological aspects. have you seen legend of galactic heroes?
also thumbsup as you like kurapica . although shikhamaru , ueki, Sano Seiichirou, jojo etc are some good shonen characters who battle using their minds ...
recommend me something that you like as intellectual/strategic battles .
