Meh start, the MC is really dumb, come on, the first bomb should have been enough to notice they worked with a timer, and his opponent's bomb were fucking useless.

Damn, another good title of this season it seems.First episode was like i said, good, but to be honest im expecting even more in next ones, since alot of people told me that BTOOOM! is really epic.
NANO.Of course i need to mention her, since i ♥ her voice and her in overall. So yeah, really amazing OP.ED wasnt actually that bad either, i really enjoyed it.
We didn't get much plot in this ep, but still, i really liked it.I like that it's dark and not so colorful like SAO.Im only comparing them because of ''stuck-in-game'' theme, but yeah, BTOOOM! have some of this creepy feeling that i needed in this kind of anime.
MC seems to be bastard. For now i somehow hate him. Can't stand his behavior towards mother, who really cares for him.Hate people like this ._.

4.5/5 and first impression 7/10.Can't wait to see more :D

Its not that the bombs were useless but that the guy was a drug addict so his aim was terrible; if anything the cracker bombs are more suited for closer combat then Sakamoto's bombs because they blow up on impact rather than with a timer (granted the crackers have less firepower as a result)

He was a NEET, and suddenly being thrown to a battlefield. I felt more realistic (although the story itself is unrealistic) if he was shocked and didn't know what's going on in the first place. And it's also his first time killin' a person.

I would feel dumb if the mc was acting almighty, became a badass, kill that guy less in 11sec with his 10sec time-bomber. That would make him looks like a gary stu and bad char development.

I said that I'm gonna watch the next few episodes to see if it'll get better. When I was talking about the "fight against the system" stuff, that I was simply what I was hoping for it to evolve into down the track. I really am just tired of the "rumble-pit; fight to the death" premise.

Then don't you think you are in error for expecting an anime with that exact premise to not be a "fight to the death" story?

Expectations are one thing but you are clearly shooting yourself in the foot here.

Perhaps I am. But I really hope that it turns out to be different. :/ Heck, i would probably get over it being another "fight to the death" series if the characters were better (Read: the MC better becomes less of a moron and more of a bad ass by episode 5).

Oh, and the people sent there better not be only the top 10. Because oh god if it is, the "top 10 in the world" must suck so much. I mean that guy must've missed like 30 times, some of which the mc was standing perfectly still.

You ever just watch a show and let it become whatever it becomes and then judge it based on what it tried to do? I heard it helps reduce bad expectations.

Being in the top 10 of a global game has almost nothing to do with one's own performance in the real world. Think about it, most of the teens playing CoD have never fired a high-powered weapon in their lives and would likely mess up their wrists/shoulders if they were ever just thrown into a situation where they had to use one without proper training.

I really enjoyed this first episode, it was really fun to watch although it really isn't a video game premise as much as a survival game premise, I mean I see absolutely no reason to think that this is set anywere but the real world with bombs based off a game.

Theory: The corrupt and evil Japanese government have kidnapped all of the neets and placed them on this island...I doubt it but I would find that hilarious.
I am getting some really good battle royale vibes fromt his show, 4/5 first episode easily.

Reminds me of SAO... But Btooom! is way better due to its seinen-ishness which I love. I don't really have much to say about this series, it's simply good. Seems to be a nice piece of entertaintment. I'm a fan of the genre, so this show is everything I need to be happy. Plus great OP and ED, good to hear Nano and May'n in one anime. So far I'm delighted with everything, let's hope they don't screw it.

Only one episode in and this already has pretty much everything I could ever ask for in an anime with a video game setting. The art is good and the pacing was just right, plus there's enough of a mystery to keep me interested.

Looking forward to the next ep. And also to yelling "Btooom!" during every explosion.

An excellent episode...the chronology of the maiden battle of Ryuuji in here was depicted the same way it was delineated in the manga...props to Madhouse for pulling off a so-far satisfying adaptation...

5/5

i'm kinda wondering though, since there is a possibility that this is gonna be 12 episodes-long, do u guys still think it will be able to cover all chapters of the manga? (i mean, the first episode kinda covered the first 4 chapters of the comic book, and that's a lot)....

The episode was okay. I'll see how it goes. I'm a bit underwhelmed though - it's probably because the premise has been done so many times and Btooom! hasn't really brought anything new to the table (at least not yet, and it's only been one episode so I shouldn't judge).

Yeah the MC is an ass but I think he's kinda realistic. There's a lot of people out there that are exactly like that. Playing Video Games non-stop can make SOME people very aggressive if they get interrupted and at least he's not a total whimp like the MC from mirai nikki. I could come to like him.

So glad to see this animated! Love the manga.

Seems they cut some things out from it though. Like when he killed that guy with his bim, they showed his remains alongside his bag but it was cut out in the anime.

I just sincerely hope they stay faithful to the manga. Great to see Himiko animated though! God she's so sexy. The fact that she's voiced by Himawari's VA from Yuru Yuri makes her all the more sexy ;D

I was a bit underwhelmed by the first episode, but that's not because I thought it was bad. It's just that it seemed like a standard first episode to me. Tough to judge the MC's character so far; on one hand he seems like your average wimp put into a bad situation, but on the other hand he actually killed someone by himself and isn't sitting there all depressed. I really liked the OP. The overall premise seems interesting; I've never read the manga so I don't really know much about the show, but at the very least the first episode is making me curious to see what happens next (and it's more than just the cute blonde girl lol). Speaking of the cute blonde girl though...yeah haha.

Looks promising. Personally this is the best first episode of the "new series" I've watched yet (Shinsekai yori and K). But you can't judge by only the first episode so I'll take my time and watch all of them! Now there's only jojo's adventure and Psycho-pass to come.

its like a deadman wonderland/ zetman feel to it but i like the realistic sorta view on the
game concept with him playing this competitive shooter (in the case bomb ) game where you even see him with his headsets and xbox360 controller lol and I can see why its focused on bombs.
Have you played against some japanese players in shooter games like Lost planet 2?

I love how the show immediately paints NEEThood and otakudom as bad. The guy is pretty much horrible, and that's the way it really is. Too many shows glorify that garbage. It's about time someone showed it for what it really is.

Just hope this show doesn't have too much fanservice.

haha yea, the flaws.

how many grenades need to be thrown at you before you realize its kill or be killed?
same question, how many grenades need to be thrown at you before you get even slightly injured?
did she not notice the sleeping guy across the river and gets undressed anyway.

ah, too early to rank or write a review about. hopefully this gets better, Accel World, SAO, deadman all were disappointing

The main's intellect is roughly equivalent to that of a partially developed fetus. He was holding a timed bomb a foot from his stupid mug and witnessed what happened when it reached zero, but somehow, out of sheer idiocy, did not realize that it was a timed bomb? Did he think he just witnessed a statistical marvel, because the bomb coincidentally blew up when a countdown on the face of the bomb just so happened to reach zero? What is this.

I have no opinion on the manga, as I have not read it, but this episode could hardly have been more derivative if it tried.

Well, I wasn't planning on watching this, but I think I changed my mind. I used to read the manga (not really sure why I dropped it) and it was pretty cool, especially since even though it's a kill-or-be-killed game with bombs, it's brains that play the vital part in surviving. And the main character has those, boy does he ever. Not in the first episode, though can you blame him for panicking and being confused?

It wasn't shown in a satisying way, the bomb exploded near the MC, and he always got out without any scratch.

Character design is somewhat a turnoff for me... It's gives the realistic feeling but I still prefer those A-1 Pictures/KyoAni style~
Death Note animation style isn't really bad... but when it comes to female characters...

Not sure if it'll be explained later but after watching it, I'm curious on something. Not sure if anyone's asked yet and I won't go looking through the pages.

How much bombs do each players have? From the looks of it Sakamoto only had 8 based on what was shown. That other guy used 6 and was about to use his 7th and 8th but didn't look like had any plans to stop as he was pretty much going trigger happy. Sakamoto even took his pouch and said he "Do I have to use his bombs to survive?" or something along those lines, meaning he still had some left...? From what I'm guessing though, he probably has a lot more, that or they somehow refill...? Don't tell me the pouch has a unlimited amount of bombs now do they?

The rest was amazing though. Totally loved the concept of bombs only in a free-for-all setting, just makes it look BADASS with all those explosions everywhere.

FINALLY watched this. Waited so long for BTOOOM!, love the manga heaps. I waited for FFFansubs to sub it; waiting was so painful but worth it!

Great first episode, very faithful to the manga so far. Madhouse's animation is top-notch. Ryouta's voice suits his character a lot. Scenes with Ryouta and his mother were done so well, but man was that some rage. xD

Last few minutes were so good, Himiko!! Oh man I actually love the Anime's character design of Himiko heaps. Those blue eyes. <3 Her voice is a lot 'mature' than I had initially thought. They're jumping straight to Himiko's POV/past when that wasn't released until the later volumes. I guess it makes sense seeing as how this is a 12-episode Anime and they wanna establish Himiko's character more.

The OP was sooooooooooooo fucking amazing holy shit! I love the fact that Nano is bilingual, she's fluent in English and Japanese so when she sings in English it doesn't sound like Engrish lol. First Phi Brain S2 OP and now BTOOOM!. Hope to see her songs featured in future Anime. :D

Anyways I cannot wait for the next few episodes to come. Very happy with the first episode adaptation. :)
