Just watched Angel's Egg, and yes, masterpiece is the word for this movie. What a beautiful piece of art this movie is! Its symbolic and allegorical narrative is complimented perfectly by the surreal dream-like atmosphere. Every single shot in the movie was masterful in its composition; the movie looked simply immaculate. Its dialogue was minimal but significant, giving hints of what the movie is about, but leaving a lot of room for interpretation. I might just have to rearrange my favorite anime movies list just so I can add this onto it.
Just don't compare it too much with Steins;Gate. The last thing I want to hear is people disliking it just because "it's not on par with steins;gate" when the fact is it's better than most stories (in the original VN)
Yes, in cases like this you just need to be patient.
People judged Steins;Gate to be boring as fuck as first, but now where is it in MAL's popularity rank? lol
But to be honest, in comparison, R;N is a tad weaker than S;G. but being weaker than S;G doesn't mean that it doesn't have a strong story to stand on it's own.
uwah!!! sorry-sorry!!! I've never replied to your previous message in the ned. Such a shame!! And why even ask about friend requests? I'll gladly accept :)
The only problem is that I've been really away from MAL for the last three months. There's just so much work after my promotion that I can hardly deal with it :) But nevertheless, thank you very much for the Tsuritama info! I planned to watch it, just haven't got a chance yet :) I have a feeling though... that Polar Bear Cafe will be my one and only hit this season as it literally helps me relax after work xD Gives such a plushie, panda feeling, you know xDD And it's a pity that Chihaya ended... now I lack my weekly portion of josei... ah whatever.
BTW, I completed Utena!!! And all I can say.. it's a masterpiece, for sure xDDD there's a lot I could add to it, but tl;dr is I'm really glad I watched because it really helped to understand and realize the different messages, ideas, that Ikuhara wanted to project in both series. They are so much alike with Penguindrum, yet so drastically different.
Sorry, I have to go now, but.. it was certainly a pleasure to hear from you!!!
hi, hussien!
I've been deadly busy lately with IRL matters, but all in all everything's fine! you?
Bake is surely one of the greatest shows I've ever watched! In fact, up until penguindrum, it was my top #1. And looks like its sequel, Nisemonogatari, which is being broadcasted these days, is as good! The first two episodes are full of fan service though... which I'm not a big fan of... but somehow it also feels like there's a reason behind it. Besides, Shinbou is such a talented director, and Shaft as a whole is such an epic production group, that they make even the fan service look.. hmm.. what's the better word.. proper? or, perhaps, reasonable... whatever, just finish Bake and jump into Nise - I have very high expectations from this show!
As for the rest.. I always keep my eye on the Noitamina shows. Up until recently they always delivered unique and deep series. Mononoke, Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei, Nodame Cantabile to name just a few. This season's six-short-episode show "Thermae Romae" is also a pure bliss!
So yeah, just keeping your eyes on SHAFT and Noitamina shows should keep you coming with usually decent and original shows.
And I also noticed you don't have the FLCL on your list - this is definitely a must!
hi.. sorry for replying so late.. here is my opinion..
Chihayafuru is my most fave in this season..it focuses on a game that I never heard of before which is the 'Karuta'.. as a fan of japanese culture, I became interested to it.. the story is not bad. it has same common story like in the other sport themed animé series(joining in tournament etc.).. the characters are great, the art, the relationship, personality though some are annoying, it's still great.. in short, my reason of watching this animé is because of the game itself.. I recommend it because it's one unique animé .. something new to learn, I say :)
