| taken from anidb "Notes about Robotech Robotech is the butchered US version of Macross done by Harmony Gold. It was dubbed, heavily edited and the plot was completely rewritten. The actual episodecount remained, as did the rough episodestructure. " So Imo they should very much be 2 entries and not merged into 1! ^^ |

| hmm, I see what's going on. I think more ppl may have noticed if this went in the traditional DB request thread. ppl probably skipped this cuz they never saw the series. Luckily I know about this so I noticed, but unfortunately I can't edit this. *kicks a certain DB editor* |

Er, I guess I'm spoiling the story. Anyway, both versions of the series are nearly identical. The character's motives change in the English dub, to the point where it's kind of ridiculous. I think the dubbers thought it would be cool to change a deep story about the impact of the human race into a mecha-robot extravaganza. That's about it. Even if you watch one series though, there's not enough reason to watch the entire other series. The only things that are different are the definitions of "Protoculture" and the "Robotech Masters". And the names. Super Dimensional Fortress Macross sounds way cooler than SDF-1. Note that I'm just talking about the Macross Saga. I haven't seen the other shows (I heard they were bad) but the first 36 episodes of the Japanese and English versions of Macross are almost identical. |

| im taking it upon myself to watch the original macross. after watching zero, and frontier, i wanna know the whole story line behind it. i supose back then animators and dubbers in the us did not care much for the integrity of original works coming out of JP. i think now they know better not to mess with things too much. |

Actually, back then it was because they were pressured to change it up. Back then multiculturalism wasn't as accepted. So having straight translations like we see today were out of the question. |
