RahXephon Episode 12 Discussion

I really want to give this show its fair due but man it is sliding deeply into ridiculous overwrought piffle. There's a reddit thread near the top of the Google results for this show and its full of people trying really hard to see the positive but ultimately saying that this show really is just deliberately obtuse and avoids telling the viewer stuff simply because there isn't that much to tell. Its not truly complex it just overloads you with insufficient information to feel drawn toward any possible answers and in the end is a pretty straightforward robot show. And of course the thread is also littered with "Modern anime watchers need everything spelled out for them" and "Maybe the show was just too deep for you to follow" moronic comments. A show that deliberately obfuscates its own plot and then delivers nothing in return is actually specifically badly written. And while early on I would have defended this show against the "poor man's Evangelion" allegations it is increasingly difficult to not notice how much better Evangelion did everything this show wants to do.

@LotteGiants Finish the show. The last 6 episodes are worth it. Every show doesnt need to reveal information the episode after the mystery is revealed. And honestly this show is way better than evangelion. Its not trying to be evangelion.

@Uglyboy4 Frankly, some guy with 1 post telling me "honestly this show is way better than Evangelion" makes me even more certain that this show is not even remotely close to being even half as good as Evangelion, lol. Evangelion is one of the best anime ever made, dude. RahXephon is not. Even if you don't think Evangelion is good it is still insanely influential even to this day. RahXephon is just a post-Evangelion also-ran that its defenders have to routinely spend half their time talking about the anime denying that its a bad Evangelion clone.

@LotteGiants The thing is, you really need to watch the whole show to get the whole picture. You can't just google other peoples opinions and use it to form your own. Don't pretend as if evangelion didn't have its own flaws. You don't even know what an angel exactly is until halfway through the show, nor do you know SEELEs true intentions until the show is almost over. If you were consistent with your own takes on something being "obtuse" you would feel the same way about evangelion. Talking about a show "delivering nothing" when you aren't even close to the end is just crazy. I've watched Eva 3 times and think its good but still, this isn't an eva clone.

The show gives tons of information for exposition that might not make sense until the ending, but the viewer goes through the journey in the perspective of ayato.
