THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Fuck, I knew it all along. The gateway to hell is a 80s pop-rock disco. |

The storytelling could be done better, a lot better... but at least it still leads where it sets out to lead... to a depraved and perverse bloodpath... |

it's funny because in the 70s manga version it was actually a bunch of hippies. which made the scene even more hilariously badass to me. |

Much better than the second OVA, but not as good as the third OVA (which is based on different take of the manga). I honestly think Devilman is underrated, even though the disco part was hilarious. |

Pretty uneventful OVA until the end. It had lots of short, good moments though so it was enjoyable. |

Don't forget. Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember her, you are not alone. |

It was okay I guess? I felt that things went waaaaay too fast in pacing. First he's concerned about bunnies and getting a girlfriend, and the very same day he accepts the pact of the devil and to leave behind everything in the process to dedicate his life fighting demons, with a grin on his face. Why isn't he upset in the slightest that his friend put him in such a horrible position? And then you have the disco ritual part. Ignoring the ridiculous situation, how did they transform again? Just by abandoning reason and following their instincts? Wouldn't the world be infested with demons all the time then? They just party, get violent and suddenly *BAM* demon transformations. Riiight. Akira never even met the requirements, he just ran out of fear and apparently that was enough to ignite his turning. In any case, it has some nicely 80s animated gore. It's an okay watch, but they didn't think this story through at all. Stuff just happens without rhyme or reason. |

This OVA only felt like it was for those that have read the manga. Enjoyable enough I guess but still got boring at parts. |

I think it's a pretty good adaption of the manga. Could be a bit better, but I like the suspense behind it. I think Devilman needs a new anime adaption of the manga. If they get Mad House behind it, you will get a big hit in my opinion. |

A good tension-building prologue for Devilman. This OAV succeeds in hooking you by establishing the starting point of the saga, helped by a revamped design still faithful to Nagai, fine drawings supporting those visuals and a perfect music score (the strongest element to me) except for the oddly kitsch track (almost "super-hero like") toward the end. The voices were sounded adequate. It could have been a lot better if the direction was not so uninspired even compared to Nagai's own style (though, a scene during the first visit seemed pretty "Nagai-esque"). And a typical weakness of Nagai is preserved by the adaptation: situations made to get you but so improbable they lead to many obvious questions (that you are supposed to throw away). Enjoyment: 5/5 without a doubt. Score: 8/10 Quasi-perfect introduction to the manga. February 28, 2018 @lihle808 He doesn't. He even appears in the OAV who adapts the second tome of the manga. That was hella gruesome, with graphical intense scenes especially at the sabbath party. What I don't understand did Ryo really die in the end? If he did he would've been pathetic to die in such a stupid manner. Overall I thought it was good even if it had a limited time( it is an ova after all). 7/10. |

woah- i'm 40 minutes into this and am like- ....why are the cute blonde guys always the most evil >:v? sure, i bet there's an argument about "necessary evil", but still "-let's murder all these people i've kept locked up down here for god knows how long!" "-you're crazy, this is crazy, they can get killed with guns- i'm gonna kill them with guns. and maybe kill you too since you think nothing of killing all these humans-" |

I also feel the same as you, what has happened to anime? I mean, if you could make gore look so grotesque and beautiful at the same time, then they nailed it in those first 3 minutes. I still love anime and probably always will, but the stuff from the past just hits differently. I like the look of a lot of modern anime shows, but the stuff from the past is just so much easier on the eye. |

I liked it but the pacing was just little off in my opinion. Like at the start we were introduced to Akira's crush and Akira crying over some dead bunnies, and later that day he was killing hundreds of demons without even hesitating. Honestly I think that this was too short maybe something like 1 1/2 hours would have made it even better. Imo the ritual part was hilarious. The transformation was pretty cool but I don't get it how Akira's personality changed so much. He literally went berserk and slaughtered everybody there. I get it like he controlled a demon and stuff but still he was fully able to transform back to his human form and cry over Ryo's death. 7/10 |

Ryou's Spanish dubbed dialogues were hilarious, actually this whole thing was hilarious! Eccentric combination of fairies, dinosaurs, demons, boobs and even a disco, I can't take this seriously, lol. The music was great tho, Kawai Kenji did an awesome job. |
