Maybe I'm too dumb to understand this show, but the plot to me seems terribly disorganized. There are still loose ends everywhere and I'm not sure with the current pace (it's episode 7 and it still doesn't feel like we've learned much) it will have a satisfactory ending. What is this show even trying to be about? --At first I thought it was going to be about Izumiko and the "princess." Now with the triplet the focus is all scattered.

Don't get me wrong, I think this series is still worth following. I just think it was such a waste of potential with all this beating around the bush without any central plot to tie it together.

All this for a horse? Seriously?

I really had no clue what's going on coz the main plot seems to be sidetracking. But thanks to SummerYoung, I understood it better.

We shouldn't be understanding the story through other viewers, but from the series, directly. Goes to show that this anime isn't as clear in storytelling. In spite this, it still has a good feel to it.

Actually SummerYoung's tumblr repost helped me LOL! Just thought - eh student council's - always such a big deal in anime. Always some sort of secret crazy war going on with the suspicious student council.

Somewhere around ep 3 sort of thought....hmm maybe this show would be better to marathon altogether at the end (so pick up on more things....as most of the time I'm just going what the hell's going on both in terms of events and people's personalities). But here I am watching it more or less weekly.

I still have no idea about the triplets. I sort of thought that Manatsu felt one day Mayura would...you know have a boyfriend, get married and her brothers would cease being her most important people and cause them all to be severely out of sync. And that Masumi needs someone around him to keep him 'alive' (well as a spirit).....and so Manatsu thought he'd go off himself and devote himself to Masumi and accelerate the event which he thinks inevitable.....oh who the hell knows. Cause that doesn't really make any sense.

Thanks for the explanation, SummerYoung! Helped get a few things straight. I'm still not too sure what Izumiko being the Himegami has to do with Mayura and Takayanagi trying to get this elusive position, though. Looks like next episode should be good.

People often get attached easily- depending on situations, personalities and so on.
People often love their pets as if they were family.
Once a bond is formed it's hard to let it go.
And yes, I do consider a horse a pet- A lot of people think of them as stupid animals, but people also sometimes consider Dogs and Cats as being stupid as well.
Their not.
And it's each person's prerogative to feel how he or she wants towards any given pet.

I'm sure glad I dropped this one early, as well as Date A Live, Yuyushiki, Zettai Bouei Leviathan, And Haiyore! Nyaruko-san W. I could tell this was gonna be a complete let down. I've been reading all the comments and more than usually, people have been confused and bored with the episodes. This series was a dud for sure. I can pretty much say it's not gonna get much better. And I know for a fact that the ending wouldn't be worth waiting 12 weeks for.
I also saw that someone mentioned that SAO was bad, which I don't really understand. I think it was a great action all the way through. Can people stop bandwagonning together, just because some idiot troll on the internet said it was overrated, already? Even if it wasn't the best show out there, it is a great anime as a whole. Who cares if it didn't match the rhythm of the manga? This same kind of bs happened after Guilty Crown finished, where people all started complaining that the entire series was shit just because the ending got a bit rushed and it wasn't what they wanted. Here's a lesson for all you anime lovers out there: When you know something is good, don't let any amount of trolling convince you it's bad. Don't be afraid to think, and always form your own opinion by yourself. After you know what you think of something, then it's alright to hear others and try to understand there views, but never be afraid to think and use you're own perfectly useful head first. Only idiots just agree without thinking because they don't care or they're to afraid to let their own ideas and thoughts be heard.

The contradiction between the first and second paragraph is strong. First you say that you drop these shows and that it was the right decision because people online essentially reinforced your decision by saying it's bad, boring, etc. Then in the 2nd paragraph, you tell people not to listen to others and instead draw their own conclusions. Um, okay. Right. Yeah. Lul.

P.S.
This anime is awesome. With each episode, I get blown away by its sheer awesomeness. Look at that amazing animation; listen to its soundtrack that makes Mozart sound as if it was written by a toddler; and check out the character development- like wow! 10/10. Masterpiece!

If it is the story itself, perhaps it has more to do with whether the original novel suits your taste? In which case it would have little to do with the anime studio...
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Keeping Masumi happy is the key I think.

As we have learn so far from RDG(As well as a lot of Japanese spirit stories), spirits are generally not very... predictable.

They can be protective, jealous, vengeful etc etc, all to a fault.
The protective one can bring curses.
The jealous ones can be like Wamiya
The vengeful... Well, you guessed it.

Human and spirit should not meddle with each others affair, as the 2 are not entities of the same realm. As we can see from Takayanagi, even though he "tamed/bind/enslave" a spirit, the spirit will in turn curse him if he's ever release without proper ritual.

Masumi's spirit is on better terms with his living siblings, but regardless, he is still a spirit. He's very simple, and may be corrupted by even the littlest of things. "Keeping Masumi happy" is their general rule to follow.

Manatsu is extremely depress at the lost of Tabi.
Mayura wish to keep Masumi around, but Manatsu, unlike Mayura, believe that they should part-ways with Masumi.

Masumi, while is their triplet, he's the embodiment of both their image of Masumi, and quite frankly, as they get older and becoming more distant, it's getting harder and harder to "keep" Masumi.

Manatsu proposed that maybe he should "disappear" and become like Masumi, leaving Mayura alone, and in some way grant her the wish of keeping Masumi while still having him in spirit form.

Mayura called her father saying that Masumi is taking Manatsu away. In other word, Masumi is going to cause Manatsu to be "Spirited away"
Again, spirits are very unpredictable. (Yes, he's powerful enough to do that, it's especially evident when he kidnap Izumiko to another realm right under everyone's noses)

I got a faint idea of what's going on, but until the triplet's story are concluded, I cannot draw a conclusion. The only thing I know is, Japanese spirits does not operate like "Casper the friendly ghost"... In some ways their's more like embodiment of belief, more like deities, or gods.

It makes sense, well partly thanks to the explanations above but all this plot with the triplets is starting to kind of bore me. I found the whole idea of the student council being one of the judges of the fight for candidacy pretty good but we haven't even seen that Takayanagi guy since he got his ass handed to him like three episodes ago.

I'm interested to see how a fitting conclusion will pop up.

This show is so confusing I am almost thinking about dropping it now. So many similiar names (Miyuki, Masumi, Manatsu, Mayura), too many similiar character designs, weird dialogues about even weirder things, real intentions of many characters are unclear, no rules for supernatural (things are happening just for the sake of scene).

And story is moving nowhere - we find out almost nothing about main heroine and so on.

This show fails strongly to deliver its message.

So what do I suppose to look at? Not even a specific genre? It DOES look like a slice of life show combines with a little bit of mystery/supernatural to me. I doubt I'm wrong since P.A has been doing them for years(slice of life show) and my experience of watching more than 400+ ani shows. It's also part of the studio fault for bad directing, script writing and a lot more.

The characters interactions are weird (« Let's test your skills...sorry, you really are just weak »)

Part of the problem is cultural. Shrine Maidens being possessed by a "god" are not unusual in Japan, so the show didn't need to explain that part. As such that Izumiko is a "vessel" of a god isn't that special to the rest of the students. What makes Izumiko special is who she is channeling, not that she can channel.

When Izumiko showed that she could spot Takayanagi's familiar people started to take notice that there was something strange with her and started testing both her and Miyuki in an attempt to figure out what exactly they are. Remember that Takayanagi thought she was a spirit and tried to exorcise her. Izumiko seemed naive and weak to Mayura, so she is focusing on Miyuki to see if he is actually the one controlling Izumiko. That was what that confrontation was about. The dance by the Student President was also another confrontation in an attempt to figure out who Izumiko is.

You've been saying this stuff a lot but honestly it really isn't all this cultural stuff you are trying to throw. And this things you say are not what confuses us at all.
What is confusing is completely different things in the plot like the whole school struggle what the hell is going on with those triplets(or not) and so on. Izumiko right now may be from the less torturous things for our minds in this point.

^Not quite. What I understood about Manatsu saying Masumi can take his place was that he would die and become a spirit like Masumi, which would allow Masumi to maintain a constant presence around others. In that case, he wouldn't have to constantly rely on Mayura on Manatsu seeing him the same way to be able to keep his form, instead Mayura will be able to see them both the way she wants. I don't think there would be a ''living" Manatsu, rather two spirits, one acting as the living Manatsu. At least I would prefer it that way lol

I was wondering why the two of them couldn't both act as Manatsu in spirit form, but I guess that's because Mayura will surely see them differently which would change their appearance. Also Masumi is probably a stronger spirit than Manatsu would be..I'm sure they'll explain it next ep.

Oh!! That makes a lot sense.

I think actually there never was a third one. The mother who isn't affected by this crazy shit just knows two children. I think there always where two children and the third one may be something created by the boys imagination. I mean we saw a horse being created just now. What the hell is that? There never was any mention that he could do such a thing. So if he can create a horse why can't he create an alter ego?

I won't even call it a slice of life show. Most of the story in it is linked to the adventure or mystery faced by the main characters. If it is slice of life, I would imagine more like little things that happen in their daily life that do not really bring much of consequence at the end. The thing that you see in shows like Yuyushiki or Aiura for example. Counting the number of ani shows you watch does not make your more credible. If anything I have been watching anime for > 3 decades and I could not even count how many shows I have watched (must be in the thousand digit). But so what? I never use the number of shows I watched to burnish my view about anime.

So, Miyuki doesn't really have hidden powers. Shame.

Noo, Tabi! Even though you're just a horse, you're still a living thing. Or at least you were a living thing.

So, is Masumi bad?

I am a bit confused, but I hope the next episode will explain.

As for the whole Tabi episode, perhaps a foreshadow of the "choice" that Izumiko has to make: is it time to put the human race out of its misery? As we cut ourselves off from the natural world, will we become like a horse who cannot walk, crushing our internal organs and necrotizing ourselves?

Interesting analysis, I like how you connected it to the Tabi's death.

I still don't really understand what Manatsu means or why he's doing what he's doing. But anyhow, this just got really serious. Nothing against the Souda triplets, though I do like them and their story is interesting, but we still don't know much regarding Izumiko and the Himegami, and also of Miyuki's role. So many questions and we're already a little more than half way through the anime!

Well about Manatus and the horse I believe Manatsu still can't accept the Tabi is dead. Manatsu probably wanted to spend more time with Tabi so he chose to revive him and run away. On the other hand the other Souda twin is happy to be spending time with his sister, but she is sad for Manatsu. Mixed emotions much. Good episode and the cliff hanger is just awesome.
