This was an incredible series, this was a thrilling ride for me, very light hearted to begin with but quite dark and depressing at the end. People have often compared Trigun to Cowboy Bebop and yeah they are quite similar in theme but I wouldn’t consider this being better than the latter personally and I’m not just saying it because Cowboy Bebop is one of my favourites but if I do have to quibble with it, it’s mainly just the fact that it was a bit slow to begin with but it did make up the pace almost immediately. The ending for the actual finale I did find rather satisfying to me I liked that Vash while he’s still true to himself is able to let go of his fears and actively make himself a better person by accepting that yes he did kill Legato but he also acknowledges that he can correct that sin and move on from what Rem told him to believe in, even him simply throwing away his trademark coat is basically his way of showing that everything that had happened up to that point is all in the past.

Don’t know why the flashbacks couldn’t have just been scattered throughout the episode, yes they give us an idea of what Knives and Vash were like when they at last crash landed on the planet but it felt like the flashback was going on for quite a bit before we actually got to the meat of the fight itself which was still awesome to watch. Anyways Trigun is probably one of the best 90s anime out there, my only regret is not watching it any sooner. I’ll give Trigun as a whole a 9/10.

A pretty good anime, with a more than acceptable ending. Someday I will see the remake, but not without seeing the movie before.

Spanish translation:
Un anime bastante bueno, con un final más que aceptable. Algún día veré el remake, pero no sin antes ver la película.

Trigun in a fantastic finale reminds us that it's a Western at heart.
The episode may have some bits of a recap, but I don't mind considering what it builds up to.
That final fight is perfect. The silence. The breathing. The twists and turns. It's stuck in my mind since my first watch of the show and will continue to after my second.

I'm kind of shocked that Trigun isn't remembered as a show with a legendarily terrible ending. I don't think it was worse than the series (which I think is awful) but for how popular the show is I would have thought more people would mention that it just ends with the pacifist crippling his brother in a single encounter and then wandering off into the sunset. Fittingly nonsensical and badly paced for this series plagued with pacing issues.

Not that Cowboy Bebop is my favourite show in the world but I think it does everything Trigun does but so much better. Even without changing any of the content of Trigun it would be significantly improved by fixing the pacing and distribution of silly episodes. Bebop also only has like 6 "plot" episodes that involve Vicious but it sprinkles them around between hijinks episodes and character episodes. Trigun just chunks everything up and makes huge stretches feel like a total waste of time. 12 episodes of Vash screaming and pretending to be an idiot while he fights pointless losers is not necessary to establish that he's a good guy that doesn't want to kill people.

And along with the pacing problems, the show has no real goal. Meryl and Milly are audience stand-ins for the purposes of finding out about Vash but their goal of stopping him from causing insurance related disasters is meaningless to viewers. So what are left with? Maybe some people find Vash's first half comedy act funny so that would carry the show I suppose but he's just wandering randomly doing random stuff. Even in the second half it takes like 6 episodes for the idea of Knives to come up and even until the end Vash isn't dedicated to stopping him from doing...uhhh...whatever his goal was (yeah, yeah, kill all humans but it seems like he could've been killing a lot more humans than he was?) and mostly just gets repeatedly ambushed by weirdo losers that he then cries about having to fight.

It also doesn't help that Meryl and Milly are awful one-dimensional nothings that hang around by necessity for 60% of the show. When they finally get ditched for Wolfwood the show is way better for it because Wolfwood is an actual character that not only has an actual personality but develops even more. You know literally everything about the insurance girls in the first 5 minutes of episode 1 and nothing about them changes and they don't do anything that matters. To compare to Bebop again, Jet and Faye are excellent supports to Spike. Ed and Ein are sort of pointless but their uselessness doesn't stand out as much because they're not carrying the entire supporting load (and one of them is just a dog anyway).

I just don't get the appeal of this show. I can almost see each part as interesting: very good OST, solid 90s animation, some cool character designs, decent setting, decent enough mystery premise to get the ball rolling. But it never turns into anything and its just a directionless mess with boring annoying characters and truly some of the worst pacing ever. It feels like this show floats up on All Time Classic Anime lists purely out of inertia from zoomers that have never watched it but want to look like their first anime wasn't Attack on Titan or something.

Yep, people saying this is better than the 2023 remake are being 100% delusional. Or either they are absolutely blinded by nostalgia.

4/10 - OST and Wolfwood carried HARD.

I didn’t like the ending especially when he brings Knives to people. Knives is narcissist creature but he is not that different from human. He thinks that human are less so lets kill them same logic human have in the universe. He is not gonna see how good humans are so wtf is the point bringing him to human civilization to make more problems? Vash2s ideals gonna countine ruin peoples life. He didn’t change in 100 years and not gonna change now he is egoistic and not learn.

I stil enjoy a good amount think in this anime but there are a lot of problems the way things done and shown us so

The ending wasn't half bad, but how much faithful is it to the manga?

Making the last episode a recap was a brazen decision, but I don't know if I'd call it a good one.

Didn't like much of anything about this one, regrettably. Vash apparently never learned that absorbing every word of someone's philosophy into your own, however flawed, just because you have a close relationship with them is setting yourself up for disaster. For all we know, Knives still carries a grudge against Vash because of his comically overboard angst, and could easily continue trying to make Vash suffer (per his own words) after he recovers. If Vash still didn't have the guts to kill Knives even after knowing this, despite having already demonstrated he could kill in the case of Legato, then why not just leave him in the wilderness and see if Knives could tough it out? It wouldn't necessarily equate to killing him, but it would at least set an example that even Vash's altruism can be tested if you push him far enough. Recognising that he can still love Rem without such a dogmatic, inflexible adherence to her every word would surely stand as more reasonable character growth.

Every character aside from Vash, Knives and Wolfwood may as well have been either glorified bowling pins (e.g. the Gung-Ho Guns) to be knocked over on the way to the finale; or, in Milly and Meryl's case, clingy dogs who arbitrarily shadow the protagonist as devices of sentimental attachment for Vash.

Decent finale though my main flaw would have to be that Knives was rather underwhelming in the series compared to the manga (do plan to reread it though)
