college politics. Something I haven't seen in any anime so far.
"...our faces marked by toil, by deceptions, by success, by love; our weary eyes looking still, looking always, looking anxiously for something out of life, that while it is expected is already gone – has passed unseen, in a sigh, in a flash – together with the youth, with the strength, with the romance of illusions.” - Joseph Conrad ('Youth')

This anime has a very poor depiction on how university works. Students don't just go outside with professors to talk about random things. If it was staged in a high school, I could buy it. What exactly does the guy teach anyways? Math? History?
Even when I was in crowd, I was always alone

The variety in setting and topic is nice, but some of these stories seem a little dull and hackneyed.

It really depends on the school, things like this do happen at liberal arts colleges.

That being said, I thought this was one of the weaker episodes.

Depends on the teacher too. Different universities have different environments and cultures.

years after my initial post I can safely say from my own experience that students do end up in cafes with their professors in some universities. I've personally experienced this when I had an hour of lunch with my professor in UNI. One of the best conversations I have had with someone...and it was not even planned. I've seen Uni teachers mix with students, although not too much. So, definitely depends on the Uni.

This was so simplistic I was waiting for a twist where Bennington was the "faker" of the title. Instead everything is surface level and the fraud spares the good-guy professor for no reason because he has another target instead of just getting money from both of them. Keaton does nothing; even his detective shtick ultimately means nothing.

Now that is the best one so far, I liked it. High amount of professionalism present making both the professor and con artist likeable.
I dont think this episode is as simplistic as it looks. Compare to previous episode which tries to play dumb, this episode account audience intelligence. We know keaton know the truth and the episode also knows that. Thats why keaton detective works doesnot leading up to anywhere which was unexpected. Plus its also lets us a peak into the self interest side of keaton which was not as obvious before

Also finally a episode not about cheating/dead/not in talking terms family member or love interest. Wish there were more like this
