So, this is another anime about girls fighting with some kind of enemy, and the girls are called 'lily'?

There was another anime (Assault Lily: Bouquet) with a similar theme, where MC were young girls, fighting aliens with their special weapons.

And maybe there are some i forgot, but either this is something in the culture, or it's a new trend like 'demon lord'.

The Japanese term for Lily is "Yuri". In Japanese flower language it stands for chastity/purity. It's also Japanese slang for girls that are attracted to other girls, as apparently the absence of a guy makes it 'pure'/'chaste', even if what they're doing is neither by Western standards.

Both shows use Lily in the title to highlight themselves as their characters serving both functions.

Only applies to traditional white lilies. Spider Lilies are flower language for death, and you'll see those in the art for other shows like Lycoris Recoil.

The lily flower has a meaning of "purity".
If you wanna know it's connection to lesbianism, it comes from two places:

  1. The Japanese concept of "Class-S", essentially the female version of "Bromance" (Platonic lesbianism)
  2. The first Japanese gay magazine was called "Barazoku" ("Rose tribe"), and it had a column named "Yurizoku" ("Lily tribe") for lesbians.

In the context of this show, lily can be interpreted as "intimate female friendship" but it seemingly is just a momentary one.

That’s a great explanation. I was going to look up what lily meant in the Japanese language of flowers but you saved me the time.
