Ok, a lot of people said that based on the studio this would be bad or even mediocre, I think the opposite. The PVs, to me, look great, both the 3D and the color palette used. Perhaps the only thing that is average is the facial expressions, which actually look rigid. But the animation itself is pretty decent, the voice actors too. The 3D isn't Houseki no Kuni level, but it's better than most of the 3D in recent anime I've seen. What I mean here is that they were expecting something divine, sousou no frieren level, that is, they placed too many expectations on it and after the studio was launched for the adaptation Many have already started to say that this adaptation would be terrible. Honestly I liked the angles and the 3D, and I don't think it's perfect, but it's still pretty decent. I actually found it quite promising and I feel like it will surprise some people with the performance of the direction behind it. What do you guys think? Am I too excited to say this is good or does it actually look promising? Simply put, did anyone enjoy PVS as much as I did?

I think the latest preview looks great. It's not eye-poppingly gorgeous, but it's not fair to expect any studio to deliver something like that (unless it's Ufotable or something).

I'm accepting of the use of 3D CG in a figure-skating anime. It must be a nightmare to hand-animate such complex choreography and camera moves. Plus, they are animating kids, which most animators are probably not as familiar with.

I believe it's all in the execution. But I can't really tell from the few split-second snippets in the trailer.

My bigger concern is whether the story and the characters will be any good...

It was quite the opposite for me. I found it so ugly with the last PV that made me remove the show from my plan to watch list.

See that's the issue. The manga IS eye-poppingly gorgeous and absolutely amazing and emotionally poignant. That it's being wasted on money laundering excuse of a sweatshop studio would be like having had the "The Last of Us" or the Fallout tv series be directed by Uwe Boll or Michael Bay or something. It comes off a nothing more than a cynical cash grab while muck racking an amazing series.

@doomrider7 Comparing this preview to Uwe Boll sounds like hyperbole. But to each their own.

I just don't know how much better they can make figure-skating look without investing a massive amount of time and resources. Yuri On Ice was done by MAPPA, and it looked beautiful a lot of times, but it still had some odd-looking sequences. Maybe there's a reason they gave up on the sequel.

I don't know anything about the studio, so I based my opinion on what I can see in this short, cut-up footage that we have. And I don't see anything that's got alarm bells ringing, but my expectations aren't very high either.

It's the worst studio in the entire industry. Most people suspect it's a money laundering operation by Kadokawa with only the flimsiest facade of it being an actual anime studio.

I saw on YouTube that Kenshi Yonezu is doing the OP for it called "Bow and Arrrow". I think this will be in good hands. I honestly expect to cry because people following their dreams always makes me tear up. 🥹 Do you think I should read the manga too?

Good God YES read the manga! It's absolutely amazing and would've been a trivially easy AOTY, Best Girl for Inori, and Best Boy for Tsukasa.

I think it has a potential to be hidden gem of a season but we need to wait and see that.
I need somebody who can love me at my worst
No, I'm not perfect, but I hope you see my worth
'Cause it's only you, nobody new, I put you first
And for you, girl, I swear I'll do the worst

If you stay forever, let me hold your hand
I can fill those places in your heart no else can
Let me show you love, oh, I don't pretend, yeah
I'll be right here, baby, you know I'll sink or swim

Ehh; the animation is alright. My biggest problem is how much content they cut out/changed from the manga.
Like Inori's mother had way more negative emotions on her face in the manga. Her reaction in the anime look a bit lifeless and made it seem like she was only being naive on her mistreatment toward her daughter. There's also cutting out all of Inori being bullied scenes.

I also don't like how the anime changed Hitomi reactions towards Tsukasa. In the manga it looked like Hitomi only slapped Tsukasa shoulder to stop him from his nonstop positive rambling in front of Inori's mother. While in the anime; the animators make Hitomi straight up sock Tsukasa in the face while they was already alone. Just for "hehe wohman smack dumbo man" shit and giggles.

Also; two of my favorite moments in chp1 were cut out from episode one:

•Inori holding her skates with uncertainty on her face during the beginning narration.

•Tsukasa flashback of him after a competition just standing there frozen with nothing but terror on his face from realizing that his hopes and dreams could all end there.

Other than that, the first episode was alright. However; these few important miscues shows me that the anime will never reach the same greatness as the manga. It's not just an animation problem, the direction is the biggest problem for me. I'll still watch and see how S1 turns out...

@JustEverton damn, so there's a lot of material being cut, I didn't know that because I never read the manga. Even so, oddly enough, this was the only anime this season that I actually liked from the first episode, since most of the animes this season are or isekais generic or romantic comedies with the same formula too, for me this anime stood out among the others due to its inspiring narrative, you know? the characters look great too. Definitely after finishing this anime I will read the manga

I enjoyed watching the first few ones, but fell off the PV train and anime news in general late November last year. From what I'd seen though, and this is exactly why I was so hyped about it, the CG looked amazing and I was really impressed with the direction used for the performances! Looking forward to the rest of this amazing series and only the best for our MCs!

@JustEverton i noticed some of these changes too. however, i think a few of these changes might not be a bad thing. I felt like Inori's mother and classmates being extra harsh in the manga might be too exaggerated. The anime makes this feel less dramatic, perhaps more realistic.

Having read the manga, I think it'd be very difficult for any studio to do as well as the manga. That being said, I still wish it wasn't studio ENGI. Any of the big name studios would have been fine. Bones, MAPPA, KyoAni, A-1 Pictures, etc.

Please do make sure you read the manga right after S1 finish (so you can see the clear difference in characterization and depth). The last time I've genuinely enjoyed reading a sports manga this much was Haikyuu. The amazing unique sketches-like artstyle makes the manga an automatic recommend from me!

Easy 9.5/10⛸️🔥

You can make a point that some of Inori's classmates were acting a bit over-exaggerated, but I thought the group project classmates that were tired of Inori not helping out due to her daydreaming and being very clumsy were realistic. I also thought that Inori's mother in the manga was more realistic because that is just how some parents act. Parents who are realists would rather look at statistics and chance than working hard to achieve a fleeting dream.

That's why Nozomi and Inori dynamic in the beginning felt relatable to me. Asian parents (and a lot of other kinds of parents; in general) can be this way. They would rather have their kids take the easy, more achievable route instead of chasing something they believe is unattainable. That's the reason why Tsukasa standing up for Inori and going against Nozomi's ideals hit way harder for me in the manga than it did in the anime🤧
