In terms of visual direction is the best anime we have seen in the last 10 years?

The last anime I can think of that has impressed me this much in terms of direction was ping the animation or aku no hana. Every episode just pushes the bar higher Its insane to think the last proper season was 2017/18. They have taken everything they have learnt and gone even further.

In terms of VISUAL direction I think that are a lot of shows that can be compared or are better than this season of the Monogatari series.

Shows like "Devilman Crybaby" , "Chainsaw Man" , "Bocchi the Rock" , "Demon Slayer" , "Mob Psycho" , "Zom 100" , "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" , "Cyberpunks Edgerunners" , "Kill la Kill" , etc. have really great use of color to make them standout.

However if we talk about direction in general only a few shows from above really can compare ("Devilman Crybaby" , "Bocchi the Rock" , "Kill la Kill" , "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" for example).

In addition, since this season is still far from being the direction masterpiece that are "Bakemonogatari" and "Monogatari Series: Season 2" then as a series overall very very few compare...

(This is all imo btw)

It is the best direction of the season, maybe even of the entire year. Yes, there are other shows from past years or seasons with better direction than this one, but this is one is the best at the present time.

It’s a unique style that only compares to other anime’s in a subjective way. Things like the opening episode of Dandadan and a lot of anime movies are more cinematic but the use of text, unnatural colour, visual repetition, human-empty scenery, intelligent dialogue and spicy humour are unmistakably Nishio Ishin and after all these years have a wonderfully comfortable feel to us fans.
Non-fans may not find it anywhere near as appealing…
