| Mangaka Kimama Aoboshi's weird series is such an emotional guilt trip. HY's OP and Iberis&'s ED aren't that bad, quite lively with its charm. Hotaru Yuyumi, an author who lost his 17-year-old dog Hanako from its natural passing, who meant everything in his life after an accident claimed his parents, and the depressed young man being the worry of his childhood friend-cum-editor Amano Komako, notices a rather peculiar pink mushroom in his backyard that rests on actual mud. That is until it can move, and it comes out looking like a pet dog trying to appease him: a mushroom pup. Hotaru bringing the rather peculiar mushroom pup thing to Komako, she gets surprised of course, but it's Hotaru who must now determine its characteristics despite it trying to imitate his former pet dog as much as possible. But just thinking about Hanako's condition just leaves Hotaru all depressed and helpless because he left her to die. And all the mushroom pup did is to burn those memories away, be it the dog food, or Hanako's collar, that allows Hotaru to leave his past behind. At the very least, Hotaru is back into writing his new series about the mushroom pup, and it's all up from here on. I did not expect to come in getting hit this emotionally hard. This unkempt show has got my attention now. |

| Interesting and very emotional start. I can easily relate to Hotaru. I know exactly how he feels. For me, Pets is definitely the most underrated and way too rarely seen anime theme. |

| Very emotional episode. When you couldn't be with your loved one with whom you spend 17 years at their last moments. We all know how sad it will be. But I hope this little cutie will help him to overcome his depression and find new motivations in life. |

| As someone with a 16 year-old dog who isn't doing that great, and who lost a 14 year-old dog last year, this kicked the absolute crap out of me emotionally. |

| Kind of hard to watch when I feel terrible losing any of my pets and last few cats I felt horrible for and like I didnt do enough and also my last few dogs had cancer. |

| This little mushroom dog sure looked cute with it's wiggly but climbing on Hotaru. Just watch it in case you missed it. It was cute. Decent first episode. Hopefully next episode is good as well. |

| Died from cuteness overload during that water spray scene. But that was a crazy way to move on from a loss, glad it worked out for the mc tho. |

| Very tough watch, especially when my own dog died recently at 17 years old. Hanako just laying there on the blanket was just brutal. Same when Hotaru was choking up/crying in the middle of the night; it sounded so real and relatable. Strange show, can't tell where it's going. But it has a charm to it. |
| This is the hidden gem of this season, which was easily one of the better premiere episodes that immediately got me feeling sentimental at the start. Losing a pet is losing a beloved family member, and it's just not entirely the same after that... |
| Thats totally my fault but I started watching it just looking at name and poster so I expected somekind of strange comedy but did get depression and a mashroom dog that almost burned the house down.Im not complaining tho |
| It's pretty emotional, especially losing your pet since you're losing a family member but it seems he's able to move on now. The mushroom pup itself is pretty cute though. |
