Like I hate how other heavy dialogue shows are directed so bland and people are just gonna say "it doesn't need generational animation they're just talking" when you don't really need generational animation to be interesting like this

This approach certainly helps in distinguishing it from the multitude, which is necessary when you have a relatively typical narrative.

It's funny that the author needs to write a long ass essay to explain it to Japanese viewers.

For real. The directing in this anime is top notch.

Not only is it directed beautifully, but "camera" angles and the positions they choose is so good.
I love how they place the viewer in another room and looks through the door, where they can play with both light and angle. This show really impresses me when it comes to artistic choices.

This show is a real treat. Each scene carefully, and beautifully made. It's a bit surprising to have a watch like this really, but yes its a commendable, noteworthy show.

I wish shows like The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten would take a page from this series to at least shake up their visual presentation.

Whatever. The more intesresting thing to do than sugarcoating this shit is figuring out how on Earth did this person who surely doesn't even know how to handle interaction between Homo sapiens manage to get publication rights for a book about interpersonal subject matters, since imagination is the perfect reflection of one's self. He must have held the publisher's dirt.

No spoilers here.

I have not read the light novels, just a fair bit of the manga adaptation. But I feel like the directors chose to make the anime dark and depressing. The manga is more light-hearted and has more of a rom-com feel. The anime has been a downer. But I'm hoping that these are dramatic choices, and that our couple will confess their love, have some sort of resolution to the issue of living in the same home... Then maybe everything will be pink and yellow and bright sunny days and happy music in the soundtrack and they live happily ever after as a couple!

My other complaint is that the directors take little bits of the story, episodes that take just a couple of pages in the manga, and stretch it out to fill an entire episode. I don't see how they can really cover that much of the story in one season. A couple of the episodes have just seemed like filler without advancing the plot. Maybe they have been promised a Season 2?

@OG_Otaku only read light novel volume 1:

I don't know if the manga is really different from the light novel, but the anime captures the light novel plus more. The light novels are written from the point of view of Yuta with Saki speaking through her diary as the epilogue. It has a chill, slice of life feel, and not rom-com.

But unfortunately, many details from the light novels had to be cut to fit the run time. It's not actually bad. The artistic direction of this anime gave the anime its own identity and gives you a different experience from the light novels.

I am confident to say that if Studio DEEN only gave this so-so animation, I would still have rated this anime so high because of its impeccable writing. But rejoice! I am watching something great unfold in my eyes.

Whilst I have a different sentiment, season 2 is likely. There's no way a single cour can tell all the author wanted to say with the 'natural' pacing this anime is aiming for.

I'm not complaining about the plot at this point. It's all about feels and how once I start the play button, 23 minutes is a breeze with how much I feel engaged with the episode.

That said, with all the stuff they omitted to cover volume 1 in 3 episodes, I sometimes complain that they might actually be rushing it. If you want every detail in the light novel to be put in animation, it might require 6 episodes per volume, which is why I disagree that the episodes are filler. I think there's much progress in terms of emotionality and subtext, even though you might think something is not happening on the surface to 'advance the plot.'

The scene progression, the cuts back-and-forth, expression of ideas, camera angles, filters and effects all feel very deliberate, effective and interesting. But I can't shake the feeling that the director is trying his absolute best to elevate the dull writing, a plain art style and stiff and barebones animation. It does keep me coming back every week.
