Akame ga KILL!

| I really enjoyed this anime til episode 20, but man they just kept killing characters left and right. The final episode had me going "WHAT?!" a few times, and not the good "WHAT!?" How did Akame "use Esdeath's bloodlust against her", why did Leone not account for the minister having a trick up his sleeve, why did Leone not swat the gun out of the minister's hand, allowing him to CAUSE HER DEATH, why did Esdeath and Tatsumi just vaporize? I was fine with the first three main cast deaths, I felt that Chelsea's could have been avoided, but oh well, but god man they just killed the entire main cast, INCLUDING THE MC, LIKE WHAT THE FUCK! |

| I think Akame Ga Kill is a story that could have been so much more than it was. It had a great narrative and start to it, but it completely missed on all of its potential. My two biggest problems are the characters and the way it dealt with death. Akame is not an interesting character, neither is Tatsumi. But those two got the most spotlight. Even some of the other Night Raiders weren't super compelling. Wave was probably the most interesting character, and I felt like they didn't explore him enough to satisfy me. The other problem was the amount and frequency of death. 2 of the original Night Raiders live. Death in shonen anime in something that is needed more sometimes and everyone aways living can get quite boring, but this one went overboard. Not to mention, you knew who and when it would happen to. They built up the character so much in the previous or current episode and then they were dead by the end of it. I wish this anime was better, it really could have been a classic. However, as more anime and manga have come out since its release, it's flaws are more apparent than ever. It just hasn't stood the test of time like many other anime from the same generation. |
