Not going to lie, that shadow creeped me out but it also seems to have some sort of connection with Mutsumi.

Got more background storytelling and the importance of family relationships. Emotions were spilling out ths episode too.

This was such an emotionally powerful episode, poor Mutsumi just wants her Dad back I do hope somehow he starts to remember her again.

Being strong in melancholic portrayal is one of the strongest highlights of this anime. Was happy to see Buchio back again.

this is hard... he is back but as a betobeto and without memories but it's him. It should hurt a lot but who knows, maybe he will remember.

There's something about the way people cry in this show that gets to me. Especially Mutsumi.

What a strange and heartbreaking situation they find themselves in. A person can shed everything about themselves except their one desire (or grudge, I assume), and still be around. I can't begin to guess how that person and the people around them can process this and continue living.

A dramatic episode executed perfectly well. It was beautiful and sad at the same time to see the reunion between mutsumi and his father.

Wow, didn't expect we'd see Mutsumi's dad coming back (if we can call it a return). Fingers crossed he may remember at least something about his family eventually. He's a special case after all.

BTW, did we know Mutsumi had a sister?! Did I miss it or was she introduced in earlier episodes somewhere? Assumed she was the only child.

@Sigmar-Unberogen
She appeared in the first two episodes (Obon and Buchio's party).

Did Mutsumi's Dad turn into a fluffy red betobeto-san because of the teddy bear he had with him??
Get excited, I suppose.

Since Jiro and his father can read mind (not limit to human's mind), they already catch Mutsumi concern that Jiro will turn into the wind in someday. It's probably true, but that "someday" is probably in a far far future, hundreds or even thousands of years after Mutsumi's death.

Even though Jiro is not immortal, I think he's technically a god, he seems to have a power to save everyone, but he's just down to earth that make other people talk to him casually.

One thing that bother me is that since Buchio "awaken", his family can't treat him as a cat anymore, that means no cuddling, no petting, no rubbing the belly, (and no catnip), but I still want to do all of them to Buchio!

Called it that the shadow was her dad.Its real sad he never gotten the present back just cuz of one wrong choice of path.At the very least his soul reminded Mu's time with her dad, hopefully she'll do the same.

It was a very emotional episode. It's painful to know that your dad is there with you but has no memories of you. Something could happen next episode, so I'm hoping it's him getting his memories back.

Man, I cried a lot in this episode of sadness, happiness and sadness, this episode is very complicated, it starts off sad seeing what happened to her father and then he comes back as a spirit reincarnated in a doll and now their memories are lost, very sad, but It was a great episode for a great anime

that was tough. i had a feeling the shadow was the dad when it started hanging around the house and was fixated on mu-chan. but still, it was hard for those around him, especially his kids, to accept that he can't remember anything from before he came out from the shadows.

It's all light-hearted in Mutsumi's home celebrating Setsubun with the beans, though the appearance of shadows (the same one that sucked in Benmaru) doesn't make things any safe for wherever they go. The great cedar is of talking point since the Tengu have been protecting the lands, and that responsibility is now given to Jiro.

And within the midst, the shadow attacking Mutsumi, at least she's conscious, but cold. That consequence, however, spawns past memories of her father, which thankfully isn't quite the effect that Chiyo and Isshin are seeing. Still, dealing with the void of Mutsumi's late father that has been surrounding the house, and the mistake of walking into a dark alleyway only to be sucked into the same void, that truth however spoke to Mutsumi, is the harshest the family's ever been. But thanks to Jiro, that darkness can become hope, and while Benmaru hasn't quite returned, Mutsumi forgetting him is quite the surprise, and her father's soul within Benmaru's body, this creates quite the dilemma for the family once more.

This show is just cutting onions on our face every episode, it just deeply hurts.

I think we've got a classic show on our hands with that Good Depression.

Fuck man that final scene nearly brought tears to my eyes.

@KikiSohma that was my first thought as well, they look very similar

let's hope he'll eventually at least partially remember his past life
