It seems with every episode, there's some sort of new challenge for Jinka in his adventures. His opponent has an unusual way of fighting too. Ofc, Jinka had pride in his own sworddsman skills.

Tama made an unusual friend while traveling as well. So many surprises this season...

Pacing of the episode felt really fast. Made everything seems to resolve instantly and kinda ruins the emotional moments imo.

0:33 Ashikaga Yoshiteru (足利 義輝, March 31, 1536 – June 17, 1565), also known as Yoshifushi or Yoshifuji, was the 13th shōgun of the Ashikaga shogunate who reigned from 1546 to 1565 during the late Muromachi period of Japan.

0:37 Matsunaga Danjō Hisahide (松永 弾正 久秀 1508 – November 19, 1577) was a daimyō and head of the Yamato Matsunaga clan in Japan during the Sengoku period of the 16th century.

4:50 A shōjō (猩々 or 猩猩) is the Japanese reading of Chinese xing-xing (猩猩) or its older form sheng sheng (狌狌, translated as "live-lively"), which is a mythical primate, though it has been tentatively identified with an orangutan species.

Resshin is talking like he's from the future lmao

Whoa there, it ended so suddenly. Gotta check the raw episode.
Cool episode. The first half was funny.

Fukou (the name of the episode) was written in hiragana for some reason, but I think it's 不幸 - "unhappiness; sorrow; misfortune; disaster; accident"

Quality time.

The first half is laidback with some wordlbuilding, the second half is quite fast with it pacing, lessening the emotional impact .

What in the black history month was that hip hop and English slang coming out of Resshin? Is he European? He did say "taste western steel".

Wah. So Tama is really into drinking. She even had a drinking competition with one of her enemies. But in the end, it was Shakugan who outdrank them all.

So Jinka's actually the son of the man Tama used to live with. I thought he was just a random kid she found and swore an oath with but I guess not. This makes me further question why Jinka lived with a katawara if his dad was still alive. Or maybe he died while he was still a kid. Either way, it explains why Tama and Jinka are siblings.

That Zesshin guy is pretty interesting. His using English words and weapons was funny. But it's far from the only historically inaccurate thing in this interpretation of the Sengoku period. In the same episode, Tama gave a thumbs up. I'm pretty sure this gesture meant a completely different thing just a few decades ago in Japan lol. Tho I wonder what it meant 500 years if it meant anything at all.

@phantomfandom Evan call is one of the biggest anisong composers, so it shouldn’t come as a shock. He’s also doing Frieren and did VE as well.

Another solid episode, but a tale of two halves

First half of the episode was really good with learning about Tama’s past, the drinking contest with Douren, all the stuff with Shakugan, etc. Second half felt pretty rushed and the emotional payoff of the village barrier situation just did not hid as well as it should’ve.

First big reveal is Tama’s backstory. So she developed her love of sake from her adoptive human father who happens to be Jinka’s real dad! They kind of dropped that on us anti climatically lol, but it begs the question, why didn’t he live with his father? Why did a katawara raise him? Some questions still remain, but Tama and Jinka’s relationship now makes a ton of sense. I really hope Douren doesn’t have to die. He’s a good dude and the banter between he and Tama was awesome.

Fukou’s story was sad, albeit rushed. The fact things don’t last forever is what makes them so valuable. Even though Tama’s time with Jinka’s dad was short relative to her lifespan, it’s integral to who she is. Definitely a lonely existence for Fukou, but now he’s finally free.

A good episode. We got two different parts this episode and even though the pacing did seem rushed for the second part it still hit home at least for me.

I'm pretty sure they did that to emphasize it was also the name of the spirit that trapped the villagers and how that goes along with the whole theme of stuff never changing just causes sorrow

I really love Shakugan's personality, how they both accept each other and work in the same body. Though It took me a bit to understand the character naming. I did not realize it was a combination of both there names right away, I must of missed that explanation when the character was introduced.

No. This was cut in the anime but earlier, they end up meeting a monk who isn't part of the Dangaisyuu.

The horror of the villagers dying, trapped inside the barrier, without a way out, was quite well done. What happened to the villagers was implied for the most part. Which is how it should be. I also love Shinsuke's continuing status as side character protagonist (if that makes sense)

I am loving this show more and more every week. Jinka and Tamas relationship really gets me (T_T).We got a little bit of their backstory in this episode in how they met and what Tamas driving force is. Together they are unstoppable, but it seems he is not as skilled by himself. I wonder if Tama is just as strong by herself, and I hope we get a solo fight scene with her in the series. Looking forward to next episode!

So far I'm not impressed by the visuals and audio, coming from this studio and person behind the soundtrack, but I bet it's still better than the manga, since the author is a very average artist.

The story is typical but the handling is fine, the characters and drama are the best part but held back by the directing which presents characters' backdrops and motivations in quite a hurry, so I'm gonna try to start the manga tomorrow to see if it's like that or better (most likely).

The comedy can be very hit or miss, but fine when it cuts the typical shounen moments and monologues from the support samurai wannabe guy.

I like the themes and how both humans and demons (as well as the hybrids in between) are shown in a gray way, unlike Helck where every demon was good and victimized and almost every human was bad and demonized.

What I'm not sold on so far is the antagonists, I found them simple and without much characterization.

Overall decent so far.

yay Shinsuke new magic sword, seems need training to use.
Shakugan switching persona fun & so positive.
Douren such chill drunk bro. Resshin like a rapper but in naruto.
Strange nostalgia faceless so goofy now, but with a noble yet misguided goal. love how Tama can go from slappy gremlin to philosophical discussion. bittersweet their hug. congrats first time Tama's negotiation succeeded!

With Raidou passing his sword to Shinsuke to atone for his sister's fall from grace, Jinka and the rest head on forward to find katawara monkeys transporting Shoujou sake to their guest: Douren the Tiger, one of 4 Dangaisyuu's great leaders. At the very least, he isn't yet given the order to annihilate the group, and yet in the midst, having to fight against a tiger katawara and be literally saved by Shoujou sake, thanks to the monkeys as well, but which Jinka could not handle alcohol. As to defeating Jinun, Douren advises that they're wasting his time, though he and Douren have quite the rivalry. And quite literally, they all get drunk with sake for the night, but eventually, they'll have to face Douren soon.

The group reaching a village protected by a barrier, to which Kagan needs to pass through, Tama is the only one agile to fit into the small realm to do negotiations with its caster Fukou. In the midst of waiting, Resshin appears before Jinka for his payback, and he has to fight without Tama's spiritual power. The katawara being able to read her mind about Genzou and his eventual death from shielding Jinka and the others, the village it's protecting is more of the same: against negation and change. With the soothing of Fukou, the dead village settles on, being passed by in time.

Laidback episode, though still on the way.
