Oh boy, another episode means another assassin. This one happens to also have strong spiritual powers.

Well, the episode also added more emotions than I had anticipated. Feels like one of those episodes that really built off of the major themes of the show so far. I'm kinda impressed by Tama's strong spirit this episode as she keeps everyone in tact. More adventures coming ahead!

Thus the journey truly begin. The search for understanding of power and nature.

Surprised to hear blast beats at 15:22, Ryuu soundtrack is a treat for Metal fans.

Music is the most noticeable part of this anime.
This Ryuu/Jinun guy reminds me of Ragna from Ragna Crimson.
The end of the episode hints that human and Katawara might be closer than people think, or they might be even the same thing!

Can we appreciate just how amazing the animation is?
14:28 This is some cool sound design
16:22 Miyoshi Nagayoshi was a real person! He was the eldest son of Miyoshi Motonaga, was a Japanese samurai and powerful daimyō who ruled seven provinces of Kansai.

We only had Hino around for 1 episode, but I think she was a cool character.
The ending really makes me look forward to what's coming. Thankfully this is a full adaptation!

Damn man lot of cool stuff in this episode. Feels like the story is just beginning and it’s a shame how slept on this show still is. This journey is going to be really fun.

The Higan stuff was interesting. Seems like the line between humans and Katawara is a lot blurrier than we thought. Maybe there isn’t one at all??

Shaku is fully merged with her Katawara so they share one consciousness. That’s a cool twist. Higan called her defective, but idk that seems pretty damn nice to me. You get the best of both sides. Their fight was dope, as usual the OST really added a lot to that sequence. Too bad Sogan and Kogan didn’t get a reunion :/

Honestly thought Hino would come around at the end, but her launching one last attack showed how far gone she was. If the Dainsagyu are gonna be using enhanced individuals for assassinations of political officials, though shit’s going to get pretty crazy.

“If we’re not human or Katawara what are we” 😢 felt awful hearing Shaku break down like that. Everyone’s strengthened their resolve and is ready to move forward as a team now to stop these vile experiments.

This show is being criminally underrated thus far. For how highly Jinka has been acting, it was refreshing to see him have an enemy that still far outclasses him. Just curious on how they’ll handle Shinsuke’s development/trying to become a better swordsman

Is it me or was that dude way too unbothered at his sisters violent death after a dying attempt at his life?

Usually, in stories, when a character dies, their last words are all about making a grand statement, leaving behind a sense of redemption or realization. But not in this case. Higan's own brother doesn't sugarcoat things. He tells her straight up: she's not a good person.

Looks like the gang is about to go on quite the journey. They'll need to train hard to take down Ryuu and his insanely powerful abilities.

Wow. Ryuu the Dragon Katawara was so powerful that he took out Higan in one shot and even Jinka was scared of him. With fear coursing through Jinka's body, Tama suggested that they should target the Dangaisyuu laboratory conducting experiments on humans and Katawara. Hopefully they would be able to find some information about Ryuu and use that to give Jinka and edge over Ryuu. Shaku being a fully merged Katawara was fun to watch and I can't wait to see her in action more often. Shinsuke made some improvements in his swordsmanship, but he still has a long way to go with more training.

This show is criminally underrated.

I almost didnt pick this up.. but i like tama's personality and she's cute so i'll stick with it.

fights are okay as well. Premise is good, mc's are good, and the adaptation is apparently great.

Decent ep.

Shinsuke secretly meeting with Zanzou Raidou to receive his teachings in exchange of food, her sister Hino, now goes by one of the 4 beast leaders of Dangaisyuu, Higan. And a fellow demon coming to their place to seek out Jinka, it's clear that this is Higan's challenge to him.

Other than Shakugan knowing Sogan through her friend Kagan, which is the katawara wielded inside her, she takes the battle on behalf of Jinka. She is the better example of a human-katawara hybrid, and both Jinun and Senya also trying to find both Jinka and Tama, they're seriously in a lot of trouble, if facing a dragon like Jinun. Everyone escaping to the loser's cave, but upon hearing that the Dangaisyuu has their hands dipped in public affairs, the Raidou clan doesn't have this code of conduct, but she's quite desperate to keep on living, to become a human. But trying to face Jinun, Jinka knows that it's near impossible, so they need to penetrate Dangaisyuu to stop the katawara experimentations and find their stride to defeat Jinun.

This will be a rather long journey of knowing what's human and what's katawara.

This show seems to be just a little underrated. A 6.79 is a little harsh. It’s just getting started so hopefully by the end of the show the rating will have changed a bit. It’s a good show and I’m looking forward to more episodes 😌

Unlike Shakugan, Hino didn't combine 50/50 with her Katawara. Instead was taken over by. Maybe Hino and Sogan would have survived if they combined like Shakugan instead of Sogan dominating Hino. It's a done deal now though.

Feels like the story is really picking up. The fights this episode were crazy and now their journey has a more clear objective. First couple episodes felt kinda mid/generic but im starting to feel glad I stuck around.

This episode has the first appearance of Senya in the anime which made me happy. Since the forums have a no spoilers policy I won't say anything more about him but he's probably one of my favorite manga characters ever.

Well that was an interesting development. I thought they were just shoving bits and pieces together and seeing what happened. But they're using one monster per person and thwacking the two together.

Shinsuke had been training with the assassin who tried to kill Jinka before. Bruh.

Woah. The katawara Shaku was combined with is still alive inside her? That's kinda crazy. It also explains her name which is a combination of Shakuyaku and Kagan. She's 2 minds inside one body. This was foreshadowed in the OP but I thought it meant that Shaku's personality would change later on.

Higan's case was different. It seems like Hino completely absorbed the Katawara she was fused with. Too bad it was actually Kagan's friend...

Hino died and at the last moment, she wanted to be human again. Tragic. I wonder if Raidou didn't have a great relationship with his little sister. Cause he didn't show much emotion to her death. Or maybe he thought his sister was already long gone after he discovered she became an ally to the Dangaisyuu.

Wait, Jinka is actually terrified of the dragon foe? I thought he was gonna be arrogant again but it seems even he has opponents he fears. I wonder what makes the dragon guy different from the others. Maybe the fact he's not a normal human like Raidou.

It seems like the real story will start from the next episode. Everything up to this point was like a setup. At least that's what was implied by the ending narration. This anime's going to be a long journey so I'm looking forward to the surprises it might have in store for me.

Many new interesting ideas. Dragons? Jinka, afraid? Shakugan's Katawara consciousness? Higan's one half dominating (devouring?) the other?

Really liking the action sequences. Cool powers, dynamic animation, exciting music, fun sound effects.

The show is not super polished but it's just working for me. A lot of people seem to have written it off before getting to this point.

The sister was hyped up way too much, yet I didn’t feel anything when she died. We barely had any connection to her and she didn’t get too much focus in the episode. It felt mostly like we were setting up the rest of the series (or maybe just the next arc) with this episode. While it wasn’t too bad, it wasn’t anything special either. I hope the series really takes off in the next episode. (5/10)

Glad to see Shinsuke actually progressing in terms of strength. He learned something very simple/basic, but it's definitely going to help his training moving forward.

Jinka is the best protagonist. The first protagonist I have seen in a long time just runs from a threat that's stronger than him. Most protagonists get beaten up to near death, then the enemy, for one reason or another, let's them live. This is a nice change.

good episode! my favorite so far, and adapted the manga well. here's your manga fact of the week: the "river of blood" you see in this episode in senya's eyes was added in the anime. it's mentioned in the manga but you don't actually see it.

The last bit of the episode made it sound like they are going to do a big time skip to later in the series. Hopefully I'm just overthinking things because I would be disappointed if that happened but it wouldn't be the first time a series adaptation has gone "Eh, the journey is boring lets just show the beginning and the end."

Glad I decided to watch this because this is good stuff.
The story is slowly picking up the pace and there are so many unknown elements in the story right now that its interesting also that last bit of Dialogue by Shinsuke made me excited about when they will reach the end of their journey and what unfolds.
