| Usual practice. I can't say anything about the usual 2D animation, in my opinion, it's done as well as in the first episode. But CGI, indeed, began to look more bad, after all Seven Arcs is a relatively small studio for such a project. And we should not forget that the main task of the first episode is to attract the viewer's attention also due to beautiful graphics. |

| @deg If a series has heart even trash can become gold. Look at gushing over magical girls, studio has subpar animation but they make the best out of it enhancing the ecchi, and having really well directed scenes with superb sound design. Mato seihei falls completely flat in just everything lmao. |

| yea there were parts where the art quality seemed to drop a bit, they defintitely didn't get the best artists/animators for every episode sadly |

Anime has come a long way since 2006. Not everyone has been into anime for that long, but some people should revisit the past to better appreciate what we have now. Personally, I can't say the animation for this episode was subpar.
unless the animation is as noticeably bad as that one season of Seven Deadly Sins, then I don’t see why the guy who made this thread is trippin’
| I've observed rather large changes in real-time visuals of video games since 2006. Unfortunately can't say that about anime. Even in video games changes haven't been that substantial since 2004 Far Cry or 2005 Jade Empire or F.E.A.R.. Character models looked great in Final Fantasy XIII (2009), but the game was too linear, limited and corridor-like for me. After i7-980 and Radeon 5870, which came out in 2009-2010, changes in hardware were a lot slower than they used to be, which is probably the most significant reason. Also mobile gaming and a lack of greater ambition. Here's a screenshot from one of the best looking open-world game of 2006 (TES IV):  And here's a screenshot from one of the best looking open-world game of 2022 (HFW):  I'm not impressed by how this anime version of Mabotai looks. I recommend reading the manga over watching (I used to follow it since it started coming out), it's relatively well drawn. Unfortunately this animation is boring to watch when you already know the plot from the original comic from Takahiro and Youhei Takamura. I can certainly like stylised or unrealistic graphics, but this isn't awesome in my opinion, and I don't mean the overarching plot or the tropes. It just doesn't look great at all, in any area. And btw, I think that this series is oversexualized for my tastes. Perhaps in the near future, AI will help with making anime look and sound significantly better without spending any more precious human work hours on making them. |
