It was a great episode. It seems that it was confirmed that a sequel might appear at some point.

Everything was perfect except for...Balgo. What what Kubo smoking when creating this mess of a character? Since he's important in the main story, I hope he becomes bearable when Kubo continues the story.

Amazing animation. I need more. Will watch the movie, and then perhaps try and start bleach again.

Starts with how sexy uniforms are... yeh that's Kubo alright.

Lot of 2d background animations and brimming with smears. There's also a lot more attempt in creating comical faces compared to the previous adaptation. I prefer this one more.

I really enjoyed this. It was great to see the Noel and Ninny again and have all of the manga now animated.

The animation also seems like a step above the older episodes. Really great work by Colorido!

I hope that Kubo will actually continue this manga and that an anime series will follow. This is a good starting point and the characters are fun and I love the dynamic.
I just love Tite Kubos designs.
The other characters are also very interesting so hopefully we will see more soon.

Like why would they animate this, that late after the initial anime? Fingers crossed.

If this ever gets a proper series adaptation, Balgo will single-handedly ruin every episode he's in. Seriously, what an annoying character ffs.
And also, panty jokes? What's with this lame 2000' shounen humor?

I'll just briefly restate and expand on what I wrote in my notes about this release.

This episode had breathtaking visuals. I loved the further world building, added context, and the usage/inclusion of folklore/tales. The folk tales included were also relevant to the society being covered and provided an added layer of richness to the plot. I always liked Kubo's character designs and this series is no different. This definitely answered some of the questions that arose from viewing the 2020 adaptation - hence the further context statement. This was a truly riveting episode that demonstrated an elevated level of narration.

Once again, Kubo has outdone himself and I can't wait to see what's in store for the future.

Are we supposed to watch this first, before the series?

Hmm... It was fun to watch, mostly thanks to many scenes with stunning animation and vibrant colors, but at the same time, its story felt really underwhelming. Good premise, but rather mediocre at best story, with weird plotholes (how did the doggy come back to life?) and shallow characters. And I'm saying it while being considerate, due to having in mind the fact that it's hard to make a complex story with extremely well-written characters in an animated episode lasting for less than 30 minutes. But whatever, it made me motivated to check out the 3-episodes long series that was released before that prequel movie, hehe.

@SouthRzVa To be fair, none of the main characters of this anime was good or even likeable, except Noel. Bolgo's mind was full of panties (and those "gags" were forced as hell), Ninny was loud and obnoxious... I'm yet to try out the 3-episodes long series, but I'm worried that one of those characters, or both of them, might worsen my overall experience, lol.

@Adnash Yeah, Noel is cool.
As far as I remember, Balgo barely appears in the next installment. He shows up at the beginning and then leaves until the final minutes of the third episode. Hopefully I'm remembering that right...
As for Ninny, I honestly expected her to be more unbearable given her "Asuka" looks but she's rather okay-ish so far.

Enjoy so much with this prequel. They make it so fresh and easy light story to watch. Focused on Ninny and Noel daily life and also first encounter with Balgo. Great stuff to watch.

It was good, the quality was as expected and the plot was good. It is good material to watch if you enjoyed the movie Burn the Witch.
I don't remember that guy from the movie, but Shelby being a dragon was surprising after a lifetime being a human. The characters are as charming as I remember

The thing is, where's this going, is it planned to continue this series or is gonna die here. It's nosense to just release a movie and a special episode.

I loved this prequel far more than the main 3 episodes made in 2020. I think Taku Kishimoto being the script writer played a big role in the improvement. This was so much more thoroughly well written and well constructed. It explains the dangers of the relationship with dragons and humans and how both pose a danger to each other. It illustrates the setting efficiently without wasting time. It shows how the characters know one another. It shows why Osushi became a dragon. The jokes are more properly delivered too. The anime op phone ringtones is a such a nice running joke. Balgo is an idiot, but he's brave. At least one redeeming quality where from the main series he shows none.

The 3 episodes in 2020 just tries to bite off more than it can chew with such a big plot for such little time to properly develop anything substantial.

This was by far a better use of production costs and time.
