Why does it seem as if a lot of anime series can't air around those dates of next weekend - like even if it's December 29th or December 30th and not even December 31st? Does it still have something to do with New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, and just the general end of the year? It seems too frequent an occurence to be random or coincidental.

That sucks. I don't see why they couldn't release it next week.

@WatchTillTandava Japanese TV stations air a lot of specialty programing around New Year

It's gonna be hard to find a timeslot outside the season. Zom 100's last 3 episodes have to wait for 3 months. This season also has Kawagoe Boys Sing that can't finish on time and has to postponed the final episode to the "unknown release date" status.

It's ironic that in a time when everything is streamed online, they still follow archaic broadcast schedules. Broadcast TV doesn't even exist where I live Nor radio except for NPR.

@rassilon Anime is actually broadcast on actual TV in Japan though.

@Remocracy I realize that, but I still find it ironic. Especially in the country that invented digital television l

@rassilon Japan is the country that was still using floppies and fax machines a lot well into the 2010s. They make stuff but fall behind.

@MegamiRem I'm sure it's on next week January 2024. It most likely mistranslation if you use automatic translation on twitter cause it's just not make sense only broadcasting for last episode (with no problem announced so far) "after" January

@shiro-seishun
It says "on January or later" according to DeepL and they will announce the date on SNS (this means social media) when they have a timeslot.

@WatchTillTandava 'The Winter Break' as it is almost universally labeled, has been a traditional Japanese TV 'issue' for more than 30 years all over their broadcast TV schedules.

for kids getting out of school it is approximately (depending on the era and school year and Prefectural School System Rules of course) been from the THIRD Sunday in December (around 5-7 DAYS pre-Dec. 25th) to the FIRST Saturday in January (generally ending sometime during the WEEK of Jan. 1).

for kids this is ALSO the period of time when ENTRANCE EXAMS are taken to 'progress' to Middle-School, High School, and College. but that 'season' for exams has expanded to also include the ENTIRE month of December up and to including the First Two WEEKS of January. since about every single entrance exam in Japanese schooling happens AT THE SCHOOLS, even Colleges. so doing those tests en-masse with a bunch of 'strangers' wandering amongst the normal student bodies would be inconvenient for the test takers as well as the schools' staff... they run em on 'weekends' in December or during the Winter Holiday Break.

what this says about TV program scheduling in Japan is a smidge different though. we in the 'West' think of vacations and long school breaks (SUMMER VACATION!) as GREAT TIMES FOR TV TO RUN AMOK and make serious cash! but regularly scheduled 'shows' go on a bit of a hiatus for all the Holiday Specials, New Years Specials, and whatnot in Japan.

anime has been on this 'hiatus' idea in this calendar 'season' way back before LATE NIGHT anime started cropping up because, well, anime isn't FAMILY TV historically. in the past, anime was a kids' only thing on TV meaning any title in the seinen/josei age brackets (17y/o and up) was straight to video (VHS/BETA/DVD). times change etc. but 'The Winter Break Hiatus' for anime just kinda stuck as a tradition. as well as A TIME FOR THE STUDIOS' EMPLOYEES TO GET SOME VACATION IN and rest up for the upcoming big push to complete their projects and move onto new projects.

of course! LOTS OF ANIME throughout Japanese TV history have 'broken the mold' concerning 'The Winter Break' and put out episodes to the networks up to the very days and weeks central to the calendar 'holidays'. we've all seen the Christmas and New Years themed episodes in anime for many MANY years now... even just to the point of a few background art objects (lights and decorations) or a Col. Sanders statue made looking like Santa Claus, or the Hachiko Akita statue in Shibuya wearing a Santa Hat. mangaka and light novelist authors do Christmas/New Years stories too and anime make their adaptations and... try and 'squeeze those parts in' during the TV season... or the anime studios just make up one episode (or two) to give viewers that 'holiday season experience' filler episode(s).

if i've screwed anything up, y'all please POLITELY give some input. it is appreciated by me and the folks reading these Forums to learn more.

@Remocracy lumping fax machines in with portable magnetic storage media? depends on what field you work in, law offices as late as 2011 in the US (as illustrated by the USA cable network's TV series 'Suits') were quite 'fax friendly', not to mention the medical fields!

"they make stuff but fall behind." huh? Japan has been 'tech forwards' in just about every field and public adoption. Akihabara's oldest nickname was 'The Electric City' due to all the radio parts shops and general-electric devices stores. then with the advent of CRT Televisions, other home entertainment devices, Personal Computers and whatnot, Akihabara's status as the 'go to place for electric devices' was cemented.

i think you're mistaking Martin Cooper/Motorola's invention of the mobile phone/cell phone in 1973 and first call placed in Manhattan, NYC on April 3rd of that year as a 'fall behind'. the US ownership per capita for cellphones was VASTLY ahead of the whole WORLD for the 80's and 90's till the 'digital signal revolution' (2G) and miniaturization of circuit boards in the latter 90's and early 2000's exploded cellphone usage/ownership all over Earth.
