@Obito_Uchiha00

your thread got lock but here is your answer, this anime focuses on the action and plot more so characters can be 1 dimensional and not dynamic like you see on other genres like drama and romance or even long running anime that has 100 episodes of character development before the action gets going and with a lot of fillers too to enjoy the character interactions more

this anime follows its plot of cyberpunk which is high tech but low life or miserable life and it gets the point across with how much suffering the characters got

Yep, it got locked. I don't think so i posted any unpleasant thing. Anyways, rules are rules and yeah you are right. It focused on plot not on characters but if it had focused on both things then it was a 10. I didn't even find story that appealing but yeah everyone has its own taste. Maybe it was not for me.

Then why did it spoil the ending in EP3? It could have been good, but the story was predictable and even the characters said what the ending will be. There was almost no twist at all.
If you want a story driven show, you need to make it interesting by making it unpredictable.

@ktg that is foreshadowing and hindsight bias at work plus you do not need plot twists all the time in a plot driven show afaik

@deg So, If I spoil an series ending, then it's not a spoiler but foreshadowing? :DDD
In this case, the definition of spoiler does not exist, because it's always foreshadowing.

Foreshadowing is actually a pretty different things. In that case, you get small hints and YOU need to figure it out. In this case the show told us the ending several times. First time was around EP3.

As for plot twists, I was not talking about having them all the time. I'm talking about having at all. If you don't have, we are talking about a generic, predictable show without anything to show. In this case, one or two plot twists would have been the best, because of the spoiler. They told us what normally would happen, but because of a twist, we would have got something completely different. That would have been the right approach here.
And because it's failed to deliver a really interesting story, it was more dependent in the characters. And based on the post in the social media, I'm right. Everyone talking about the characters, posting about them and not about the story.

@ktg a plot driven show does not mean having none memorable characters they can just be 1 dimensional or not dynamic characters since the characters act in a way to follow the plot and they follow the cyberpunk plot well here

its hindsight bias at work too and not just foreshadowing like i said, you only learn the conclusion in hindsight

@deg In Death Note you have several memorable characters, almost everyone counts as one. And still, most of the cases people talk about the plot itself. That's the difference, because, as I said, people in the social media talked about the characters and not about the plot.

That's always true even in the most predictable show's case, but it's still predictable. When you watch a show, you have expectations based on your knowledge. If the show cannot surprise you, then it is predictable.
I literally was hitting the wall next to my PC, when in the show they mentioned the ending second time around EP5 or 6, because I was desperately hoping for a twist that would prove me wrong in the end.
This story could have worked 40 years ago, but now it is too weak.

@ktg i change my mind look at the genres of this, death note is suspense so obviously it relies on unpredictability aka plot twists more while the genres of cyberpunk is just action and sci-fi

its a simple story with memorable characters and its action genre so thats why its mainstream or popular

“There are no happy endings is Night City” maybe if these people weren’t so stupid they’d have happier endings but oh well.

@deg here is right that it genres are not suspense but pure action. But here i want to add that mostly anime which are written by Japanese writters have better suspense and story even if they are not the genres of anime. It's done to keep anime interesting.

So main point here is the fact that the story was simple and kinda boring for me.

Yes, the characters were relatively good, but story-wise it was weak and that was the original take in that previous thread.

Secondly @ktg, You have given your opinion so i don't think so you need to force it on others. If people like that anime then it's theirs choice. Just it was not for people who seek story and suspense, not that much action.

Firstly, this is not an opinion. I'm talking about facts.
Secondly, we were not talking about liking or disliking. Even deg agreed with me that it has a simple story.

I’m asking for average person intelligence. If I was walking down the street and I looked up and saw a brick falling on me, I believe I would react if I’m given 4 seconds. But Rebecca seeing Adam fucking Smasher falling on her? Just stand in place and shoot. Yeah that’ll do it. Asking for basic human survival instinct is now asking for Light or L levels of intelligence.
