Sugar Apple Fairy Tale (light novel)
| Truly enjoying the series and I hope many other folks out there are as well, but what struck me with this one is the subtlety. Just the lack of overreliance on JRPG game mechanics alone is a treat and gives the world a more full-bodied feel, but also how they don't get too hung up on Anne Halford's past life as a hikko NEET (don't think I remember even one reference to it?) or bogged down in the details of how the gender swap physiology works. This series may end up saving isekai. |

| obviously OP is being facetious; however, as many have pointed out there's no element of "born in another world" in this anime. let alone anything about NEET and sex shift. only mildly amusing. of course, though, talking about the unconnected, pretend, nonexistent aspects of JRPGs that are completely immaterial to this anime really makes this post stand out |

| Nearing the end of my watchthrough now and I'm going to go ahead and retract what I initially said in the OP. Even approaching the season finale there's been exactly zero context provided or flashbacks to Anne's hikko + NEET former life, gamer habits, old body type, etc. leading me to believe the author felt it wasn't all that interesting to portray. But it leaves the story wanting and somewhat convoluted. Feels like we're missing the backstory/history behind the reincarnation and skipping bits and pieces. Given all that, I doubt it can be an all-time best isekai contender or even necessarily of the year. Will probably end up assigning it a rating a notch below the spider one. |
