So.... the funeral OP is the OP for good.

Great naval battle. Having the fairies around make my heart heavy and anxiety skyrocket.

Shigure have some great marksmanship.

Next episode looking dangerous, now that will have Abyssal Fleet more anthropomorphic ships, that are stronger.

Those PT Imps were so annoying as hell.
The next episode looks so dramatic. The major battle is coming next.

Very good episode again. I liked the action scenes. Also, the animation looks pretty impressive.

Those chibi characters are adorable.

However, those PT imps are such a nasty creatures.

This episode was pretty good. The battle was interesting and had me on the edge of my seat. It also successfully made me attach to all main characters now.

If ENGI can keep this level of quality until the end (unlikely..), it might turn out to be better than original anime, action-wise.

The insight into how their gear and the fairies worked as well was nice too. And looks like we have our first deviation from history with the recon reports. Some pretty neat Air to air combat there. It was cool that we got see the fairies bale out. Asagumo and Yamagumo's bond was pretty endearing. The imps here are just as annoying as they were in the game too. But the night battle was pretty intense. Though im curious as to why didn't Fusou and her sister had star shells since they most likely would have predicted that the mission would last into the night. Looks like we'll be seeing what the 2nd strike force is capable off next ep. And by Jove their opponents look strong as well. Overall an excellent ep that featured some pretty neat action scenes that showcase just how frantic combat can be within the world. At the same time i really liked the fairy moments as they reinforce the bond that exists between shipgirl and the fairies that man their weapons. Would be nice to see Yamashiro do more than just scream Shigure's name though.

I always admire the little chibi characters and in this episode dealing with the annoying PT enemies, they did a good job. =)

Shigure and her group took a few hits, but with some good teamwork and timing, they were able to see off their enemies. Production values are still at a good level, which is nice.

It does look like the battle will get more intense next time. Hopefully the girls can all come back alive...

Mogami is the MVP. Since Fusou and Yamashiro aren't in their Aviation Battleship form, reconnaissance and aerial battle heavily rest on her catapult deck. Couple that with live-saving anti-air and anti-PT Imp duty, this tomboy is a hard-worker worthy of her namesake. Now, night battle is where the fun begins. Those rotund destroyers (Na-class), tailed cruisers (Ne-class) and PT Imps are real menace in night battle. Even the shielded battleships (Ru-class) are also there just to tilt the odds even more. It all depends on whether Yamashiro's fleet can survive before Nachi's gets there.

And here they come, Night Strait Princesses. If it's not obvious enough, they're the abyssal version of
BGM choices have been solid so far, so I hope they will use a remaster of their theme, 西村艦隊の戦い (Battles of the Nishimura Fleet).

My only issue is that they kinda let the submarine go (god I hate them), but since it's alone and not elite form, it's probably just reconnaissance.

I kind of just noticed the super small characters that man all the systems and planes on all the girls which are all super cute! I like how they just are there but not really mentioned by anyone.

  • As the girls just stand upright and still, the cruising scene lacks punch, compared with the powerful running scene of UmaMusume categorized in the same personification genre.
  • The atmosphere of the show is sort of dark. Considering the show consists of only 8 episodes, the show may have been made as something like a spin-off movie and divided.

They should all lose, like what happened in real life. No sympathy for them, no empathy for them. Only death awaits them.

Aaand, the battles look really good, nice. if it keeps like this it might be better than the cgi animated from S1, I just prefer nicely drawn shipgirls, I'm starting to think 8 episodes was for the best.
That's right Mogami You might want to watch out for collisions, You don't want to ram into someone.
Based on the ending, would Yukikaze be a more important side character? I hoping for it, lucky ships need to be united and share some of that luck.

Wishing for more intense action on the next episode.

also noticed in some shots when they're fighting the abyssals.
After the canon fires, it's just smoke that is coming out not the gunpowder being ignited.
maybe they forgor to add the thing...

Still lowkey hyped next episode.

I completely don't understand what's going on in this anime. It seems insane to me. Why are these girls fighting is beyond me. How can they have souls of old warships, if the anime takes place in 1944, when these warships were the current, sailing ones. Why don't they use actual warships instead? Who's fighting who exactly? Where did the Abyssals come from? Is it some nationalistic Japanese propaganda? Even though they were the ones who started the war in 1941, committed horrible, horrible crimes, which shouldn't be forgotten and wanted to rule half of the world, with the other half ruled by the Nazis (kinda like in the series Man in the High Castle)?

Wow, I never was that worried about the protagonists from second one to the last.
For one second I thought Mogami exploded on the horizon.

The usage of mini planes and fairies was great, it looked really professional and realistic the way they were used.

Shigure can't really protect everyone on her own, putting the arms before her face was maybe not too good.
That fleet composition is really not good against bigger ships it will be hard. Will they receive repairs later ?

The tense atmosphere of this show is just amazing. I think it's a logical step for Kancolle to go into dark (survival horror) territory.
For my taste it's nearly too grim, since I really like Kancolle characters and don't want to see them die. I feel like I would break if it happens.

So far Fusou and Yamashiro take the spotlight as characters, Yamashiro is very intense in her personality and short temper.

I agree that this anime does not make a lot of sense. I suppose logic never mostly works in anime but if the timeline is indeed 1944, then I suppose this is just a take on actual Japanese history where they fought a losing battle where the IJN is portrayed by the ship girls and the American fleet as the abyssal fleet. I also agree on the part that this anime is a huge propaganda where it is trying to garner the sympathy of the people watching it to feel sorry for the Japanese and take pity for their actions as we see their ship girls depicted as tragic heroines trying to fight their inevitable demise. No matter what happens, [Japan's] actions will still remain as it is and no degree of whitewashing could every portray Japan in WW II in a positive light due to their countless war crimes to many to mention, especially the fact that some or most of it where done using these ships (and on some cases, on it, especially the murders that took place for captive sailors or civilians). I'd like to add that this anime is a Japanese ultranationalist's wet dream where it plays a deaf and senile person trying to fervently ignore what actually happened during Japan's conquest of the Pacific. I'm sorry to say but I want these a$$holes to lose since I see no point of them winning and there is no incentive to feel sorry for them since they are the enemies and are asking to get sunk. The only reason I'm watching this filth is to feel the satisfaction of getting them destroyed as vengeance for their actions in the past.
I watch anime, write reviews, do toy photography, explore the world with curiosity, play video games and sometimes blog. I have a life and a job but I still occasionally go here to see what is happening on the otaku world.

I just realized Fusou and Yamashiro have one VA. It's amazing how she can switch her voice into something mellow for Fusou. That's awesome!
Splending action. This was an intense episode. The odds are against them. It's sad to see some of those cute faeries going down.

At this point in the war, BB's are pretty much obsolete. They are supposed to engage against similar vessels, but since the US tends to deploy CVs and smaller ships, the BBs are pretty much useless except for fire support.

That Americunt/Abyssal fleet looks badass! They look scary but still sexy!
