i is the equivalent of e as in the ee in flee (now would be a good time for me to learn ipa), so it's ee seh kai, as far as I'm aware. put it on Google translate and press to hear it - like that.

Pretty sure it’s neither of those. It’s more like a Double e sound: EE - Suh- Kye.

it should be pronounced with the Japanese pronounciation (something like "ee sic kye" in English?). the middle syllable is pronounced /se/ as in "sensation", not /she/.

I'm not good at phonetic spelling but I think it's "ee-si-kye". Listen to how it's said in Japanese and pronounce it like that.

Since it’s actually a Japanese word meaning “other world” it’s best to pronounce it as “Esekai” so basically the second option on the poll

It’s none of those. Japanese has quite simple phonetic spelling. For those who know hiragana it’s いせかい.
The ‘i’ is ‘ee’.
The ‘se’ is just ‘seh’ as in ‘sentence’.
The ‘ka’ and ‘i’ combined for ‘kai’ is like ‘Kayak’ or ‘Kyle’.

So we get ‘ee-seh-kai’.

People seem to be getting the ‘se’ wrong and saying ‘sic’ or ‘suh’. I can categorically say as someone who speaks Japanese with a Tokyo accent. It’s ‘seh’.

I mean Japanese pronunciation is usually much simpler than English because of the rigid structure of Hiragana. Most words are made up of multiple hiragana, which have their own set pronunciation.

so Isekai is

i
se
ka
i

pronouncing it like (Eee Seh Kye)

Yea I'd agree with this.
It's neither the 'i' of ice-cream or intelligent and tbh I've never heard it said any other way then the 'flee' mentioned in this comment.

I suppose it probably sounds different depending on accents and things - Just go with whatever suits you, it's pretty anime word to begin with after all😅.

it's worth nothing that the Hiragana is いさかい In the Japanese phonetic system each character has to be pronounced for the same amount of time so it's (ee-sa-ka-ee)
