Yes, 100% but i think they are trying to mimic the classic shōjo manga style in the anime so it can be a bit odd for some people (i mean in the manga the nose is the same)

No it's normal, Japanese people also have long noses. Back then in the 80-2000s, people watched anime with pointy noses and pointy chins, and no one had a problem. And it is anime. why should it be debated? anime lovers nowadays are getting weirder to give questions.

That's type of Shoujo manga for you

welcome to 80-2000s art style, big round eyes, pointy noses and chin. That's old school shoujo artstyle for you

Even though it was a conscious design choice, I find it pretty unappealing.

So? You try making a piece of art in your personal style and then have people call it weird. They are sticking to the wave the manga is drawn. If anything they should be priased for that.

That's just their character design that's like saying the faces of the girls from modoka magica look weird that's just the way they're designed

The point of a character designer is to make it look as unique as possible so that it is easy to differentiate from other characters, and megumi kouno did an amazing job with making em look exactly like they did in the manga coz when a character in movement goes to droopy mode or smiles widely it doesn't seem unnatural and still can maintain their design, her quirky design make it so a character can express variety of emotions which looks exactly perfect and extension of their personality all while maintaining realistic angles.

The entire character design looks all fucked up, which is weird since the animation quality is top of the line.

Hello,
When I started Akebi anime I said after just 20 seconds those "sea-faring" encoders must have messed up royally. How could anyone keep looking at such bizarre ellipsoid heads? I tried to correct that by setting the player app to 16:10 aspect ratio and voila, everything snapped into place and so I binged all 12 eps in two days. After that I went to a local weeb forum to praise Akebi and promptly learned no encoders messed up, it just the animators kept the mangaka's unique art style. I was shocked!

Let me recommend everybody watch Akebi at 16:10 video aspect ratio, it just makes it digestable for much more people. On the usual 16:9 display one does pay a small price of thin vertical black lines at the left and right edge but other than that, nothing really looks out of place and the golden rule of Euclid's geometry is ensured. (If I'm totally nitpicking, there are 2 seconds at the end of ep6, where Akebi-mom's keicar looks slightly too narrow in 16:10, but that's it.)

It would even be worth expanding Akebi anime to true 16:10 ratio to eliminate the black sidebars, e.g. by using an intelligent (machine learning / neural network based) video-rescaler algorithm. Maybe a community project to finance the cloud-computing capacity for that?

how do you change aspect ratio?
