THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

The world can really be cruel and unfair, isn't it? Then again, I guess it's not a surprise that losses are expected. Poor Naomi.

Got mixed thoughts with this episode. They didn't do a decent job at building up her character so I didn't feel much about Naomi. Plus, it's hard for me to get attached to either Yuito and Kasane at the moment.

Maybe story will improve...but it's hard to trust certain characters in this show.

Naomi really got shot, bloodied and fused into an Other creature in the most jarring CGI proportions as size goes, paralyzing the other Scarlet Guardians on their track. To make matters worse, Major General Fubuki makes it an internal report for secrecy reasons, though Kasane doesn't take it nicely.

The Red Strings of fate continue to hunt the adopted sister Kasane, though Fubuki counteracts that the Seiran Corporation can save her from her Other form if she just kept matters to herself, it's for the better.

Indeed, the OSF is just a front for rebellion by the higher-ups, acting upon as if it's a massive cover-up for their plans that for now, the Scarlet Guardians have to follow their command and keep mum about everything they encounter in their Others suppressing operations.

This will be a long journey for Yuito and the rest of the Kyoka Platoon to figure out the truth from the lies, that indeed, Gemma and Luka has found out first against Septentrion commanders Seto and Karen (Luka's brother).

So early on, and the anime's true plot has been revealed, now this is what I'm looking out for in game adaptations, the plot twist. This episode did save the "3-episode rule" after all.

So bad guys brain-controlling the good guys? I guess it's an alright concept.

Wish animation was better, but overall, it was OK.

The CGI monster looks pretty cool, sad that the parents blame everything on Kasane. The bad guys are playing the good guys..

The game is amazing, but the Anime... Why couldn't Sunrise do what Bandai did with the game, it is so wholesome, but the Anime has such a lame animation and terrible pacing too, i really felt for the loss of Kasane with the death of Naomi in the game, but in the anime I just felt nothing at all...

I really love the tension and plots-twists this Anime has. The CGI was fine, I guess?
I am at the point right now, where I cant wait to see whats next and I really want to get my open questions answered, but I am also scared of the pacing. This episode really was moving forward in high speed.

If the pacing gets better and there comes character development, then I have high hopes for this Anime.

I really hope others think of it the same as me.

Ok so first episode since I’ve beat the game, game of the year along with FF 7 btw. For the most part I think pacing was pretty good, the part immediately following Naomi being converted was rushed a little and I like how they added Kasane’s perspective of the aftermath as well. But in a video game adaptation you’re always going to have some awkward pacing at times since it’s just to promote the game.

Based on what we’ve seen so far, I’m wondering if it’s going to be two cour. I can’t see the whole story being wrapped up in 8 more eps.

I haven't read the manga nor have I played the game, but I can still somehow sense that this is rushed as hell. Too much info being thrown at us in only 3 episodes. Apart from that, the CGI is really ugly and it makes the anime hard to watch. I just hope that this "betrayal" thing gets explained, otherwise it's just another drop this season.

I do had kind of feeling that something wrong and human turn to others . They looks kind of similar to Mahou Shoujo Madoka and an anime with supernatural power it is no surprised it is possible to brainwashing or some kind of mind controlling.

This episode was really rushed (compared to the game, everything is by now but that was to be expected).
but one thing stood out for me: we know that the introsong is from The Oral Cigarettes. and at 14:07 where the stairs are going down, you can see the number 5150 on the wall. 5150 is also a song from The Oral Cigarettes.
Was this on purpose or just pure coincidence?

Tense episode with Kasane's sister's death was something mysterious it really was an episode with many battles.

This ending I'm very curious to know what's going to happen.

This plot could be interesting, but it's such a mess as presented. We've got no attachment to these characters, and concepts are being thrown at us wildly. You can't just shout brain field. The fuck's a brain field? Don't know whether to stick with this to see if it unwinds or give up on the assumption it'll just get messier.

Kasane continues to be the best imo. But it was a generic episode overall.

I mean Seto doesn't seem to understand what is going on and he is seen protecting Kasane and Yuito in the preview for next weeks episode.

So who knows who is good or evil after all.

I've only been playing through Kasane's story but it feels like there are some extra scenes in the show that are pretty good. Then again, those scenes are only worth it if you know the story.

The production put into this seems pretty subpar especially compared to the game which has so much more style going for it.

Agreeing with some other people here, it's really rushed. You know why betrayal twists, conspiracies and government coups are usually late-game story additions? It's because you need to set up the status quo before turning it on its head. We barely know anything about the OSF or the characters, and now they're trying to throw in these twists?

I like this show and it's characters, but they're not giving me a lot to go off of. But it does its job as a commercial, because I want to pick up the game and see just how much better things are when there's no one-cour time limit.

Pacing feels kind of off, but it was a decent episode. It's really making me wanna play the game instead, since the game looks so much better, plus I don't really have money for the game right now lmao.

Poor Kasane got disowned damn, I wonder if it really is even possible to turn Naomi back into a human. Like TWEWY last season, they don't really explain much stuff, like the abilities and stuff. They expected us to have played the game already, but I guess they just wanted to show the story.

Usually, when I don't know whose side I should be on, I like it. But, not so much here. Here, I am simply only confused because they're not being very clear.

The transformation into the monster was so bad. I didn't even realise the girl had turned into the monster until I noticed her missing, and remembered the trope where the monsters' true identity is humans.

The characters don't look like they're all in the same environment. They're not even making eye contact for most of the episode.

Not the tiniest bit of story is told through body language. The body is just there to move from one place to the next, and perform some action scenes. There were no emotionally motivated movements. And, even the dialogues sound like they lack emotions.

I think Nagi will die, because he doesn't seem to have any role to play. Male protagonist's male best friends usually die in modern stories.

I can't feel any sense of loss for the characters. I also can't feel fear or tension. They never developed the relationships that well, so I have not learnt to care about them.

I'd drop this, but this is just good enough to keep me watching!

Yawn the anime was absolutely boring. Just don't care on what's happening on the screen. Yeah I probably should watch this after finished the game first, I'm currently couple hours of Yuito's route in the game which on the anime is episode 1 and now I just know of what will happen to Naomi. Great.
I'm too weird to live but much too rare to die.

So far, this episode had:
Naomi getting gobbled up by Howl's Moving Castle

Mama going all "You are dead to me" on Sis2

Brain washing on the Delicate Cycle without Tide pods (they would have cleaned his mind completely without stains) on Nagi

And .........The Big Coverup by the Government. This appears to be our plot point and we should have a battle royal in the next episode. No attachment to any character yet, but it could happen ......maybe.....or not. But it could....

Naomi's terrorized face was the most realistic expression so far in the show.
I like Kasane, she has a lot of appeal, especially after trying out the demo for the game last month.

But I can't say I'm happy with the lackluster animation quality. Bare minimal movement on screen, feels like a bunch of stills being panned left and right. In comparison to the game which is packed with intensity throughout, it's kind of disappointing. I was hoping the first two episodes served as pre-release pilots for a greenlight on a higher budget for the rest of the episodes but it didn't really feel that way.

I will keep watching but as others have said, it's hard to follow what the heck is going on with the plot. The pacing is way too fast and coupled with the minimal animation it reminds me of why I disliked Ghost in the Shell, lots of talking about politics that can fly over your head if you aren't attached to the story, with minimal action in a show that's supposed to have action. I'll probably pick up the game at some point, but I do want to see what this story culminates into. I think it's gonna be a one and done 12 episode season is my thought.

The mystery of the Red String unexpectedly slowly get reveal, i think, via those unexpected movement from their own general. The next shall explain what the heck happen there, for real. Hopefully its get a better understanding. However, as always, i don't really feel its a good way to pull everything that off, especially when using such a jarring narration over the shallow characters. Its not so impactful. The use of two supporting characters like Naomi and Nagi actually not so convincing me, right on three-first episode already. Idk if Nagi will be the next to get sacrificed. But ... do they really not sparing some times to make me care about the characters? No need, it seems. Oh, wow, then.

Still, i shall appreciate their effort to make everything thrill. Even though i am feeling its half-assed, and fail miserably. At least there's an effort to makes it works, right?

This is honestly getting very hard to watch now. As someone who 100% the game, I’m feeling slapped in the face with this adaption so far. Everything is rushed and the complete reorganization of scenes / event order / content left out is just a huge misstep. I was going into this to enjoy as a guilty pleasure but I don’t know anymore.

Yup,

The cutest and kindest girl in every single action/horror series always dies first.

___ ___ ___

So... the entire plot is basically "Madoka" level... where the "supposedly good guys" are actually the "bad guys" that turns ppls into monsters so they can make the "good guys" look good and be in control of everything.
